Life with Lumia 920 - Part I
I pre-ordered my Lumia 920 from The Hello Station at KLCC, an authorized seller for Nokia Malaysia on December 8th and got hold of my unit on January 7th 2013. (It was ready for pick up by Dec 21st but had to buy some more time due to some convincing reason: D). It has been 2 weeks since I have my (black) Lumia 920. Instead of posting a review after a 1st glance, I thought of exploring some more with the new OS prior to writing a blog post.
I'm an avid Android fan. Then why the heck I chose Windows phone on top of Android? The answer is really simple. I just wanted to give out a try. If we argue over Windows vs. Android or Apple, it’s a waste. All 3 platforms have their own identities. More specifically Windows Phone Market is beyond compare with Android or iOS. Plus most of the better and required apps are paid in Windows Phone market but readily available and FREE in Android/ iOS.
Live Tiles really touched my interest in choosing WP over Android. It’s an amazing feature you can’t find in any other mobile OS and it’s customizable. You can have your preferred size in home screen too.
2nd is Kids Corner. Even I don’t have a kid yet, it’s another amazing feature in WP8. If your friend's kids need to play a game, you can let them play and be worry-free.
Cross compatibility with Windows Core is another factor. Most of us are still windows users. If you are moving to Windows 8, then the communication between your Phone and PC/ Laptop is quite easy with SkyDrive. On the Go Office documents with Microsoft Office Mobile in your palm with WP, this is something that really matters to me.
IE10 is extra ordinary in WP8 with HTML5 rendering. Equally important if you want to stay connected with your company's backend/ ERP/ CRM system.
Lockscreen updates are awesome and helpful. Theme Color changer is an add on. Bored in having the same Color UI? You can change it according to the colour you fancy on the day. Hint : 12 colours for 12 months may be? ;)
However, if you are a person who depends a lot on 3rd party apps, I don't think WP is a good platform for you STILL. But this doesn't mean that there are no apps in WP market to cater your needs. As I said above, some apps are free but some apps have to be purchased. All major apps are still unavailable in WP market. For eg. Facebook. No Official version announced for WP from Facebook Inc. The app out there was developed by Microsoft itself. So think twice before making a drastic move.
Without a doubt, this is the best WP8 device offered in the market right now which bundled with 332 PPI display. There are pros and cons in any device. Nokia Maps (which is working offline too), Nokia City Lens, Nokia Drive (still beta) are some of great features. More than anything, I like the OIS Camera in Lumia 920 which is again you can't find in any other mobile Camera. The weight, thickness, irreplaceable battery, no Micro SD slot (however it has 32GB inbuilt) are some of the negative things. Features like NFC, Tap + Send are available in other devices too, so they aren’t something unique to Lumia 920.

A week later, Nokia Malaysia posted me a voucher for 150 RM as a rebate for the pre-order. The paper is good to buy some Nokia accessories from the Nokia Authorized dealers in Malaysia. #SoMuchWin
This is bit tricky, however, I'm using my Lumia for around 48 - 60hrs in one charge with the following usage:
Talk Time : 10mins per Day (+/-)
Gaming : 1hr per day (+/-)
Internet Browsing : 1/2hr per day (+/-)
Video : 10mins per day (+/-)
Background Apps running : AccuWeather
When my phone was still hot and new on my palm, the battery didn't last more than for 4 hours. I guess the same is true for those who just unboxed their phone too :D I don’t mind hearing your other side of the story though.

Lumia 920 is not a good catch with WP8. If you think it’s fulfilling your requirements, then have a go. Before heading to the counter, it’s advisable that you have a quick tour with the demo device which is available in the Nokia Flagship stores.
