From the beginning, both struggled to trust anyone outside their close circle.
Personally, I believe Johnny was the first to break down his walls and be completely open with Daniel. So much so that he felt hurt when Daniel tried to exclude him from training at the end of the first part. Even so, in the second part, Johnny allowed himself to be honest about how much he needed Daniel by his side to lead Miyagi-Do to victory.
In the third part, we see just how important it was for Daniel to earn that trust. In the scene where Johnny confronts Kreese, he says: "I didn't trust anyone. Not even myself." He didn't like the version of himself that emerged under Silverâs training, so he instinctively rejected the dojoâs philosophy.
However, as he gets to know Johnny better, he begins to understand that Johnny wants to take Cobra Kai in a different direction. The consolidation of this trust happens in several key moments:
1. When Johnny shows up at his door and asks if he trusts him, and Daniel says yes.
2. When he tells Johnny that he wants his version of Cobra Kai to win, and thatâs why he makes a deal on his behalf for the dojo.
3. When Daniel puts on the Cobra Kai gi again.
