Thinking about how Oliver hoped that Rosalind was in love with Orion because he thought that could save Orion if everything else failed and how after he was captured by the Nationalists his last thoughts were of Celia before the sedatives kicked in

for some reason I feel like I can handle the fact that Anton and Calla might potentially die though sooooooo

Might be murdered by the fandom for this (Julius Caesar style) but I would have been satisfied if Roma and Juliette had died. It would have really fulfilled their intended tragedy and tied in with the rest of the plot, which kind of hinges on their deaths (which is not to say that I’m unhappy they’re back, I like them alive as well).

I will be interested to see who survives Immortal Longings and I kinda hope that Anton and Calla don’t make it because that’s how it’s supposed to (or at least how it did) go. I think taking the tragedy away from the characters makes their journey less poignant in some ways. These are characters designed for tragedy and if you want to reuse them maybe you have to have them wholesale. Maybe you don’t though.

I am sorely tempted to write an essay about this, as if I don’t already have one essay on tragedy to write (and I just handed in one that also involved tragedy, although more as a genre for simplicity’s sake than an actual investigation of it).
