There is something special about old, rustic places that I can’t quite put my finger on. it must be that smell of history, beautifully preserved aging structures, a gateway to getting a glimpse of two eras - modern life and the past.

Rewinding time months ago, I was pretty ecstatic to visit Vigan- one of my bucket list destinations for local travel. 

Upon arrival at Calle Crisologo, who would not be mesmerized? Look at those pathways and antique houses! Add Bagnet plus food trip to Cafe Uno to the equation, I was sold. That 12-hour road trip was bearable, and honestly enjoyable with the good company of my officemate, her family and boyfriend.

People have their own "mission” when traveling. Some care most about history, the food, quirky souvenirs, and/ or spotting all the tourist attractions. Mine is a bit of all these plus traveling in style.

Again, to each his own but if you have a personal preference same as mine, these are top of mind pointers in dressing up for travel that I usually note of:

1. Take the weather in consideration of what you will wear.

2. Use comfortable shoes- A lot of walking is expected. Case in point here- the universally-flattering white sneaks. 

3. Be photo ready AND comfortable- Who would enjoy the whole trip with a sprained ankle and a heat stroke right? This is related to point #1

4. Have a sturdy bag and be prepared to take the basics with you- Water, food, camera. A mini fan, perhaps? Lol. Plus your space for pasalubong.

5. Never forget skin care. Use loads of sunscreen- Though not style related, that SPF 30 is a must.

The Leap of Faith

“Girl, repercussion of our emotional decisions.” A friend jokingly bantered as we trekked the rocky foot of Mt. Pinatubo. Months back, I know I would want to try this but will put off going on a trek/ hike because watching TV on a weekend sounds more appealing. Heck, look where I am now- climbing big rocks, crossing small rivers, bathing on lahar in a 4x4 jeep ride, sweaty and with feet swollen from kilometers of walking to reach that goal- the summit.  Twice.  Nowadays, whenever a friend mentions an exciting activity I have not experienced yet, I just say an automatic yes. (Good job for that progress from this post)

Snap decisions on doing what I like. Interesting. Why can’t I do that on goals that I apparently love?

Sometimes, I can’t help but wonder what holds me back from doing major steps in pursuing my dreams. Every person has his/her own personal search of finding out their calling and I know mine by heart. I am also at my comfort zone at the moment- not ideal, but secure and at times, it becomes a breeding ground for complacency. Mostly, I blame it on overthinking- that fear of failing, rejection. I had my share of failures just like everybody else but I think I am scared to make worse ones.

Is it pride?

Too much pride gets you nowhere. You think it’s for the best until it rears its ugly head. You should know that by now, self.

On the flip side, aren’t these “defense mechanisms” back firing on me? What is it that I am afraid of? Aren’t these just non-existent scenarios fabricated in my head?

I feel happy for those people who took their personal leap of faith- and succeeded. I can’t deny that there is a twinge of guilt in me on why I can’t push myself to have that strong conviction. That all or nothing plunge.  That high risk appetite.

I sometimes forget that just because everything is okay now, it doesn’t give me an excuse to just settle. I should strive for greater things and to throw all those worries away in order to maximize my potential.

“Which do you want, the pain of growth or the pain of staying where you are?”

How about being pushed to the edge? They say that when we are in pain, we will have no choice but change ourselves. Do I really need to have a 360-degree shifting experience again? I don’t think so and I should not need to. I can be a success story if I want to. What I need is discipline and the guts to just go for it. Whatever happens, what would matter at the end of the day is that I tried my best.

After hours of serious hiking, we finally reached the crater lake, greeting us with a majestic view and its sparkling emerald green waters. All the painful and tiring ordeal in order to get to the top was worth it.

"Beautiful.”

I told myself, I did it. “Kaya ko pala.” “Akala ko lang hindi.”

As for my dreams, I still have to take that plunge, that leap of faith. Very soon. I can feel it. Baby steps.

When in Salcedo

Late last year, I had the opportunity to do something that I have been wanting to try for quite some time- doing a photo walk at the inner streets of Makati.

There were times when I feel a strong urge to roam Salcedo Village and have my own version of creative photographs as what I see on Instagram. I walk past these beautiful spots from restaurants to parks as I go to the office but have not found the time or a like-minded person to do it with.

It was a surprise that Mish, whom I follow and only used to know of online is working nearby. Who knew, her office is just across the street. We did a personal catch-up about anything under the sun and noted that we have a common friend. Small world after all.

It is great to meet someone who kind of “get” it / is mutually into blogging or fashion. Sometimes, I feel a bit of hesitation to ask for the favor of having my pictures taken by another person (except for my mother haha). I am a lowkey visually expressive person and this is one of the means to keep this blog and my creative juices flowing. So to my supportive friends who can keep up with it, you’re the best!

We started roaming around to find a perfect spot past lunchtime. Our theme was supposedly street wear yet I kind of ended up still a bit corporate. Yes, I wore that to the office plus a blazer to survive the winter brought about by the airconditioning. 

Overall, it was fun! These takes actually remind me of Humans of New York. It is a page where in people are being photographed randomly and a little (albeit, inspiring) back story about their life is being shared. I hope I can do this again.

My Instagram Girl Crushes

Apart from doing a subtle double take at a lad who catches my attention, I have always had this huge fascination with beautiful women. #Nohomo though, do not get me wrong on this one. It’s just that seeing these girls’ gorgeous faces, or knowing their good backgrounds make me inspired to be the best version of myself also.

I’m always very vocal in discussing a “girl crush” with friends when the topic comes along- from Kendall Jenner, local celebs to some pretty people I know of, whether personally or as an acquaintance. Instead of harboring insecure feelings towards other girls, it would be much better to appreciate everyone’s uniqueness/best traits and most importantly, learn from or emulate it.

Inspired by Style Bible’s “Best Instagram Accounts to Follow” article, I have listed my biggest girl crushes from the insta-world. Basically, these awesome people caught my eye with their looks, wit, personality, and/or artistic sense. How I wish we can know them in real life also. Without further ado and in no particular order.. enjoy!

1.  Akiko Abad (@akikoabad)

I have always viewed Akiko as “the next IT girl” whenever I see her in my Instagram feed. This is either from her own account, or from other photographers snaps of her. With her tall physique, signature brows and piercing eyes, this girl will surely go places in the modeling world.

2. Alyssa Laureola (@alyssalaureola) 

A Sunnies Studios’ regram of that artsy left upmost photo was what it took for me to discover her account. I initially thought that was Taylor Swift, not Alyssa tho, what the heck. Anyways, I hope she makes more of those! Her makeup, outfit, and feed are always on point, too. <3                  

3. Kheshi Santos (@khesisantos) 

Ack. I am at loss for words. So pretty. So stunning! She has this charm that’s quite child-like and innocent, too. She could definitely pass off as an actress, or something.    

 4.  Bea Marin (@beamarin) 

All hail to the kween! Nobody does monochrome as chic as hers for me so far. There’s a certain feminine edge in her photos too that makes her a looker, specially for fashion aficionados. On another note, her smile kills.                                 

5. Camie Juan (@camiejuan)

I had the chance of meeting this girl at Fujifilm’s Instax event in Trinoma! Ack, I’m such an awkward turtle at events as my shyness (Self, how can you make it as a pro blogger if you’re always shy?) usually takes over. But yes, she was really nice to accommodate me for a photo that time. Camie’s got the A-game for selfies, hair color transformations and amusing real life stories. I really like that as a blogger, she’s effective in communicating (endorsing) for brands at a more personified / interesting way with her readers.

6. KC Del Rosario (@kcdelro)

I am always amused with this princess’ carefree, fun and privileged life. I always associate her with sophistication, friendships, parties, music, London and Klaus the cat, KC’s edgy style is also a breath of fresh air.

Part Deux

It’s been a while since I started having this self-awareness of myself living under a (self-imposed) rock for quite some time. Maybe this is just me peeking my head out of the “introvert shell”, or waking up from a long sleep and having this “itch” that I need to scratch. 

I currently feel that there is still a big world out there that I have yet to explore, a curious void that is to be filled. I get these unending stream of thoughts on newness. These are activities, goals and personal stuff that I need to experience and/or change even at least once to live a full (subjectively) life. It is more of preventing the regret of missing the best moments by doing it now or eventually while I still can.

Upon pondering on this existential crisis (yuck, for a lack of a better term), I think it stemmed from my old way of life as a person to just go with the flow because as my (younger) self, I found that comfort in passiveness. I contented myself with just living vicariously through other people’s great lives out of fear to step up my own game, only to realize later on that I’m not okay with my own. To live more, I need more than staring. I need to know what I want and go for it.

I believe that everyone should, and is meant to live for something great and exciting in their own way (Case in point- François Cluzet, a character in The Intouchables, a french film). I think that being aware of what was lacking and voicing out what to change in yourself were necessary steps for me to move forward and take charge of the wheel. Maybe that was the breakthrough, a turning point that I very much needed.

With passiveness, there were also a lot of opportunities that i have missed. I’m now starting to actively rebuild a life based on what I want, what is essential, and what will make me wake up giddy in the morning- even though it requires a lot of work. Even though it may scare the hell out of me at first.

I know that there is still a long way to go for all my #goals and #bucketlists to be fulfilled, but I am slowly getting there. Definitely, it’s not yet too late to start over.

Review: Ever Bilena Lipstick in Red Twilight  (MAC Ruby Woo Dupe!)

I’ve always been a self-confessed beautyholic - forever on the look out for the best of the best products for makeup and skincare. Blogs and forums have been a very reliable source of info on what to get for the past few years! It’s much better and helpful for me to read the firsthand experience of girls on the internet in the convenience of my room, than risking a splurge on something that may not work for me.

One major quest that I had was the search for a perfect red lipstick. MAC’s Ruby Woo has earned its reputation as a classic retro matte choice (Matte > Glossy for me, all the way) so I got myself one before. Do you know that it is the brand’s best selling lipstick too? It definitely is pretty! However, it’s not all the time that I, and the rest of the femme population can splurge 1000 bucks on a single tube. Hello, bills, adult life. Reality check- let’s be more practical. Good thing I have discovered a very affordable version from a local brand that costs just a little over your favorite Starbucks frappe.

Please welcome- ta dah! Ever Bilena (EB) Advance Supreme lipstick: matte finish in Red Twilight.

It’s been a while since I had something in my makeup kit from Ever Bilena. I remember that the first dibs which I purchased from them was a lippie named Mauvey during my college days. After that, foreign brands took over my make-up taste as I didn’t find anything special from the locals before. However, when I saw a few months ago from their Instagram that they are launching the Advance Supreme line, I felt that this is something else. Matte, uber pigmented, and a good color selection? Sold. I knew I had to try it.

COMPARISON

1. Packaging:

MAC’s bullet is a classic black tube with silver label embedded on it. Very minimalistic.

Ever Bilena’s bullet is white, which is a refreshing take. It’s kind of easier to look for in a pouch because of that. Material is plastic, but not too flimsy.

2. Price:

I bought the MAC Ruby Woo at Php 1000. 

Ever Bilena’s Advance Supreme lipstick retails at Php 195.

3. Smell:

MAC smells like vanilla. Yum!

Ever Bilena smells like blueberries! Yummers too. Hahaha.

4. Product Formulation:

Ruby Woo has a chalky consistency, which kind of drags on the lips once you apply the color. It packs in a rich color when you swipe it though. I’m honestly in a love-hate relationship with it.

Even if Ever Bilena describes Red Twilight as matte, it glides on your lips well, as if it’s creamy. The product has a waxy consistency.

Both have a long lasting staying power on the lips and leave a stain too.

4. Color When Swatched:

MAC is a true red with a cool, bluish undertone. 

Ever Bilena is also a true red. I think I see a super slight hint of pink though? 

Apart from this very close inspection which we usually don’t usually do naman, I think both look very similar at one glance!

5. On the Lips:

MAC looks a bit darker in this photo due to the lighting. It’s actually brighter in person. Looks/feels very dry and matte.

Ever Bilena looks almost the same as MAC’s in person. Swear. As mentioned, I still see a bit of pinkish undertone though as compared to Ruby Woo. It is matte but feels waxy.

Can you guess what’s up with this photo? Red Twilight is on the upper lip while Ruby Woo is at the bottom.

Look Ma, it looks the same!!! 

FINAL THOUGHTS:

If you are on a tight budget and is on the lookout for a great red lipstick without sacrificing the quality, I highly suggest on getting one from Ever Bilena’s Advance Supreme line. They also have other shades, but mostly on the pink and other red hues. There’s a cream line too for those gals who prefer a different formulation. 

MAC Ruby Woo will always be a favorite of many- Taylor Swift, included! If you have the means to shell out extra cash and the constant yearning for this exact signature shade, then go for it too! To each, her own. :)

My search for THE “holy grail” and budget-friendly version for each makeup product is still ongoing. Rest assured, I will share it with you also next time one I find them.

The Long and Short of Dressing Appropriate

“And when you dress up for work.. how short is too short?” Well, definitely NOT THIS short. - I say to myself as I look at the skirt I’m wearing in these photos. I’m currently in a phase wherein I try to be conscious of how to dress more appropriately- because certainly, I am guilty at times of not doing so, specially at the office.  

Living in a tropical sweat-inducing country made me inclined to fill the closet more with anything short and sheer. The percentage seems to be on the 70% mark at this point.  Name it- sleeveless, tube tops, mini skirts, sheer dresses, shorts in all forms and washes? I have them all. Ack, I don’t even wear pants that much nowadays. The thought of braving the sunny streets with sweaty legs is making me uncomfortable already.

This personal preference made it quite a challenge for me to pick what to wear at work. i have experienced the peak of this struggle a few years ago when I was just starting out, fresh out of college. I did not have enough funds yet to build decent basics, and the concept of “more mature dressing” was an alien concept for me back then, because of youth and I’m childish~. I did not have any idea on how to pull it off well sans looking old-fashioned! 

Of course, things have changed as I am now more attuned to scoring decent knee length skirts and high-waist wide leg pants. The thought of more mature dressing and covering up, yet looking stylishly put together do not intimidate me anymore.

 I think that more than stalking other girls’ blogs/Instagram, watching the series Suits made me realize the importance of dressing appropriately for work! Do you feel that air of confidence and the presence of Rachel Zane, Dana Scott, heck even Donna Paulsen when they step in and out of the law firm? (Do you even watch this?? You should. Google them up.)

I would like to emulate that, specially in my line of profession, wherein meeting high-profile clients/candidates is a usual occurrence. The clothes you wear somehow is a representation of yourself. As the old saying goes, “The clothes make the man.” and “You are what you wear.” 

Yup, with all this thoughts in mind, I’ll continue saving the hubadera looks for the weekend, and change that floral skirt into palazzos stat next time.

Favorite Things: A Wardrobe and All Else Update

The usual hustle and bustle has led me to seek for a kind of release or de-stressing activity. A bonus that I got a few months ago was a major enabler so I finally succumbed to.. shopping! Nevermind a slight gaping hole in my wallet as long as it can help mend a gaping *heart*, or soul. Whatever floats dat boat.

1. NUDE ANKLE STRAP HEELS

“Ugh, you’re so fine.” was my initial reaction when I saw this pair of shoes. I had been in search of  perfect nude heels for the longest time since I realized that I do not have a lot (or any) universally flattering footwear for formal events. All other styles I previously saw were either not the particular flattering style (I’m very OC with the cut/design) I want or are too expensive. Lo and behold, my sister’s wedding was the perfect excuse to hunt for and finally pin down the perfect one. Patience and right timing does pay, huh?

2.  A,) PLAID POLO AND B.) TENNIS SKIRT

This might as well be a 2-in-1 post as I conveniently have a picture of it as an OOTD. Have you tried incorporating visuals to your to-buy list? I’ve done that with this one. Bought the Zara polo and Forever 21 tennis skirt at roughly 70% and 50% off, respectively. I almost bought that polo off the rack before, and a different colored style of the skirt at the store, sans the sale tag. Good thing I waited.

3. BESTIES- BY SOLENN HEUSSAFF AND GEORGINA WILSON

This purchase was heavily influenced by my lurking habit on Instagram. Georgina Wilson started posting teasers and pictures from the fans via #BESTIESBOOKCLUB hashtag. I figured that it covers highly relatable topics for me at the moment such as friendship, fashion, food, travel, finances, love etc. so, yes, it is worth bringing home from the bookstore. I did learn tips from the perspective of these two “it girls”. They have emphasized that this book is not a guide-to-life manual but more on a “view” of their lives behind the camera- which is a pretty refreshing and kind of educational way of looking at life aspects on their perspective.The cute design and concept is also a ++ factor so yes, worth it.

4. DARK, VAMPY, OXBLOOD RED LIPSTICK

The blood-of-my-enemies on my lips color affair started when a friend let me use a MAC Diva lippie for our fun shoot. Suffice to say, I was hooked. Being a pale person who looks sickly without any strong hue on, this color is just perfect to seal a look. I actually prefer this in its dried-blood, purply glory over a bright red lipstick.

 I use two kinds now, namely Wet n Wild’s Cherry Bomb and Nyx Siren. Also Matte > Glossy, always.

5. REVLITE LASER THERAPY AT WINK LASER STUDIO

I’m trying not be TMI here, but yeah. Some parts of us need to be lighter than the rest. Hehe. I am resting my case on the use of some creams and bar soaps as they take very long and continued use to see a significant result.

Thankfully, I was able to discover the wonders of laser!!! Revlite is used to lighten sun spots, pigmentation, and even remove tattoo. It stimulates collagen and breaks down melanin formation, aside from permanently removing fine hair. Also, there is no downtime and you can resume to your daily activities after the treatment. Too good! 

For maximum results, I need a minimum of 6 sessions and I’m approaching my 3rd. It’s kinda pricey but yeah, might as well invest on it as long as it’s effective. 

6. ACER LAPTOP

One word. FINALLY. My own. My baby. I would not be able to keep up with this blog without you.

Who knew that laptop canvassing was fun? Being a noob on techie stuff, it’s as if I had a short course on learning specifications i.e. graphic card, processor (AMD or Intel?), hard drive etc. of the model that will match my use of it. To come up with a shortlist, I had this goal in my mind in the end: getting a wide-screened laptop with decent battery life, a graphic card (for photos, editing) and a huge memory/disk space (?). Lo and behold, I ended up with an Acer Aspire E-15! I must admit on settling to an AMD A6 than a preferred Intel I3 to lower down the price point. But with a graphic card and 1 Terabyte memory- who am I to complain? 

Well, that’s it! My shopping chronicles were a bit of a mouthful, but yeah, you guys get the drift.

I (Almost) Lost It: The Blogging Existential Crisis

TLDR: I lost the essence of blogging and now, I understand why (and will work on bringing back the love of it).

As I am typing this, moi is actually on a draft-posts-blogging spree/high: something that I have not done, or felt for the past few months. Quite ironic with the title of this entry, huh! If there is a silver lining in being on house arrest (kidding) for a week due to an upper respiratory infection AND community acquired pneumonia (Good lawd!), I think this is it 

I know that blogging is not something that I do for a living. I have a corporate job- my bread and butter, that takes up most of my time. It is not as if I am obliged to blog as it is something personal. To give it a decent title-  this is a “passion project”. Yet again, the inability to do so for a long period of time somehow managed to make a little part of me sad as this is something that I used to like doing during my spare time. As months and years passed by, excuse after each excuse, I started to drift apart from something that used to make me happy. I couldn’t even lift a finger and write something. My complacency killed the *magic* and this had made me ponder recently on what really happened to me and my used-to-be hobby.

Suffice to say, erm, life happened. 

I remember being fresh out of college with a lot of time in my hands when I started. I was looking fondly at the outfit chronicles of Jane Aldridge (Sea of Shoes) and the sophisticuteness of Tricia Gosingtian (Tricia Will Go Places) in 2010, coupled with the boom of Lookbook and I said to myself, why not? OOTD here, there, armed with internet, curiosity, and raging enthusiasm- I was on a roll.

After a while of being busy with working and doing other usual grown-up things, I have let these take a toll on me. I left Tumblr-ing in the backseat, further letting me grow apart from it as the mojo continued to slip away. What the heck! Even sleeping sounded as a better activity for me. Sometimes when I attempted to post something, words came out like a meaningless salad. It’s as if I am just forcing it out of me because I “had” to do it. 

In the ever-evolving world of social media, selfies, follower counts, self-promotion/representation and apps, people of today have a better reach on everyone. All is just a click away.

Recently, I usually get a glimpse on my social networking sites of blogger personalities having attractive privileges, best access to anything and thousands of followers. I must admit that it’s tempting to do a shortcut route with fame and the perks that come with the title as an end goal in mind. After a while though, It feels like starting on a wrong foot for me to blog again just because of this kind of mindset. Also, it’s a wrong perspective as these influencial bloggers actually earned it. There is a “labor of love” involved for them- the dedication and hardwork to engage and give their all for the best content possible in a somewhat professional level. Some aspirants may not see the other side of the coin and opt to take on the wrong path. 

I know that there were missed opportunities for not taking this seriously. I also had my share of freebies, features and event invites even amidst a hiatus. But that’s actually the point. I want to blog because I love to share a good part of myself to others- not to just attain a certain status, be famous or whatever. Yes! The privileges are definitely a nice result but should not be the end goal. The goal is to do it because you love it and the rest will follow, not solely because of the perks that come with it. 

I looked into myself and asked why there are particular blogs that I keep coming back to. Why? Because they touch me at a personal level. They have their own “brand”. They engage people. They tell their own interesting stories with much gusto. They give helpful tips to readers who need it (Ex: your best matte lipstick find, latest thrift shopping escapade, how you survived fighting your personal demons). That is the essence of it. I want to do it because I am passionate about sharing a story again, not for any *just because reason*. I want to get it back.

I may not have a lot of readers, but a least engaging in 2, 10 or 100 is more than enough. as long as I feel that I am able to share a part of me, to help, and/or to entertain them. Meh, I’m into fashion and beauty stuff so it will definitely fall on that criteria. Hahaha. Of course, hopefully I can make real connections, not just with readers but fellow like-minded individuals who are passionate about the same things as I do.  

To wrap it up, I do not want to nurture a false sense of success in blogging. The motivation should be the love of it, not the benefits that come from it. I do not want to go solely on the latter direction. I later on purged these thoughts and subconsciously went back to the main reason of why I’m writing and shooting stuff in the first place- I want to inspire and be inspired. I want to do this because I am happy, the rest will follow if it’s meant to be. 

And now, everything is clear.

As I look on old awkward posts, I just laugh and think to myself, “Dang it. I’ll share my stories better this time”.

Flower Child Sessions + Create Paper Crafts

I can't believe that time flies that fast! I think it's been a year or two since the last fun shoot session with Ate Kat. Some factors have been a constraint lately to do something creative- a recurring frustration, so this invite came just when I needed it the most.

I am always ecstatic whenever we have a kind of collaboration. I feel very at ease when working with her and our ways of envisioning a theme is on the same artistic wavelength.

Not only does she have a talent for capturing moments, but also in calligraphy and illustration. She actually did my blog header! Haha. My mojo for blogging came back through that and my discovery of a better Tumblr theme. As mentioned in one of my Instagram posts- Yay for talented friends.

We did 3 sets but I'm dividing it into 4 entries as there are a lot of good stuff to post. Not a complaint at all. For this one, the peg is floral and dainty but I came off more as an 18-year old about to have a debut. Lol. Inside jokes~ Or maybe a pre-nup sans groom, whatever floats your boat. The props and set-up were courtesy of my soro sis/college block mate Ate Api. Nice huh? She is the owner of Create! Paper Crafts. For your needs on invite designs, events styling and other paper craft uses, she's the best person to go to.

Inspiration: Boom Sason The New Collection 2014

Once again, I have fallen in love with Boom Sason and her perfect muse, Martine Cajucom. Eveything that she makes screams of 4 things: seductive, powerful, beautiful and stunning.

I have been a silent follower in Instagram and Facebook since last year and she never fails to make any woman feel sexy (despite any body type, I believe). With the surprise cuts and drapes here and there, everything is too on point.

One day, I will own one of her designs- that will be a dream come true/part of the ultimate bucket list. Here is her new collection for your viewing pleasure. My personal favorites are the bodysuit, purple high-slit dress and the pink top/skirt set. Enjoy!

Little Black

As the years go by, I find myself evolving into maturity when it comes to my clothing choices. Perhaps, this can be heavily attributed to my corporate work and yeah, because I’m already in my mid-20s (ouch). 

There were times wherein I look at my tutus and old dainty tees and feel that they’re starting to look “odd” on me. This post is an example of that! Here, I wore one of my recent purchases from a thrift store. Want to hear the best part? It’s a relatively “new” ASOS dress when I found it on the racks- had a tag on but just lacked the connecting cloth for the neck area. I just had to have it. 

On another note, there is also a part of me that desires constant change for everything. Urges to replace the old, unfit and uncomfortable had been a usual brain fart recently. This is due to some circumstances from 2013 to 2014 that became eye-openers on my flaws and strengths as a person. App-made vision board apps became a best friend as I was able visualize the goals I have set for my self regarding work, self, and relationships with others. I hope that before the year ends, I will be able to change a lot of things for the better.

Las Casas

If you are looking for a good tourist spot in Bataan province, I highly suggest going to Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar. The feel of the place is very antique and nostalgic! When you visit the place, it will be as if you are travelling a few centuries back to the era when the Philippines were under the Spanish/American colony. For more evidence to attest to this, you may check my posts in Instagram.

Actually, my outfit here was quite inappropriate as it was such a scorching hot day (Ahem, leather jacket.) and the main purpose of the trip was to swim! I just wanted to not let a beautiful location be put to waste as it is hard to find a good shooting spot within my hometown. 

The swimsuit which I am wearing here is a good alternative to a crop top. I have been looking for a perfectly fitting one for the longest time though. Also, yours truly has been quite fond of digital print skirts nowadays. It gives the outfit a bit of "pop", yes? Too bad I forgot to bring nice shoes. Nonetheless, all the sweat for this outfit post was worth it!

Inspiration: Oleg Oprisco and the Magic of His Old 50$ Film Camera

A Facebook friend once shared a link about these stunning works of art from a photographer named Oleg Oprisco. I was very impressed with what I saw that I felt the need to repost it on my blog. 

Apparently, he shot the following through the use of a Kiev 6C and Kiev 88 cameras with medium-format film and a variety of lenses. How amazing is that! I also love how surreal and dreamy the output was with all the concept, colors and set design, which were also his idea. Now, that’s what you call art and talent.

Review: Shiseido Ibuki

For the past few months, I can say that Shiseido's Ibuki line  has done wonders on my face. Currently, I have finished more than half of these babies and they have done so much in helping improve the clarity of my skin. With that experience, I feel that it deserves a post so I can share the good stuff with other girls! 

What convinced me to try it is the so-called Shape Memorizing Cell Technology™ that makes the skin's surface layer “memorize” the shape of cells in their optimal condition (a.k.a. "plum with moisture"). For more info, you may read this helpful review.

Admittedly, Shiseido's products come with a hefty price tag so I was lucky to have availed a trial pack (the two as seen above and a facial wash) priced at 1,500 bucks. All are in 30 ML bottles/tube and only minimal amount is needed to be put on the face so I think that it's still worth it.

 THE EXPERIENCE:

1. FACIAL WASH- My least favorite of the three. It did its job well in cleansing mildly the skin of oil, make-up and dirt. However, I personally think that affordable cleansers can still do the same thing, so, nothing special. In fairness, it still took me 4 months to finish the contents of the tube.

2. SOFTENING CONCENTRATE- I LOVE putting this on my skin! It is super light and cool upon application. I think that the purpose of the concentrate is to retain the moisture content of the skin. Upon continuous use, my visage looked glowing and like that of a baby.

3. REFINING MOISTURIZER- My preferred time of using this is during night time as it has no SPF. Whenever I use this, there is this cant-put-my-finger on radiance in the morning that I usually do not experience with other moisturizers.

I have tried using other face products but these are the gems that I still keep coming back to. Hmm, maybe that's the difference (sometimes) of investing in pricey stuff.  By the way, it doesn't diminish dark spots and all completely so you may need something else to address those. What I can assure is that Shiseido Ibuki contributes in making you look blooming as it works to keep your skin at its best state possible. Rest assured, I'm a believer!

An Interview with Culture of Venus

By the way, I felt that this part of the Q&A is worth sharing as it tackles some tips that I have, fashion-wise. So, yeah, here is the excerpt below! I hope what I said will be a helpful reference to my readers. 

What fashion or styling tips would you give to someone who wants to improve their sense of style?  

My suggestions for anyone who needs a lift in their fashion sense  are to:

1.) Invest in well-fitting clothes.

Your clothes should look like they are made for YOU. Don't you feel unhappy and self-conscious when you are wearing something that doesn’t fit well? I do.

2.) Buy quality basics/classic pieces (ex. little black dress, pumps, white shirt) first in building your wardrobe.

Timeless pieces will never go out of style 5 or 10 years or beyond and spending a bit more for them (for quality’s sake) will be worth the investment. 

3.) If you cannot afford the luxury item (ex: bag, shoe) it is better to buy an inspired by/homage piece than the fake replica.

Three words: Fakes are tacky!

4.) Familiarize yourself with your body type so you know how to flaunt assets and hide flaws when dressing up.

This is a very important foundation. Each person’s body type is unique- from having a short torso, an hour glass or petite figure etc. Look for styles that are flattering and will suit your quirks best.

5.) Read blogs/magazines for inspiration.

Creative inspiration is everywhere! Feed from it and make it your own. In relation to #4, it will be easier to know what apparel cut, color etc. will work for you by looking for inspirations from people with a similar body type. 

6.) Have fun! Do not be afraid to experiment.

Because dressing up is supposed to be that.
