Y'know, its not as if I INTEND to disappear from this blog for weeks and months at a time...
A lot of my absence from here has been due to change in my day-to-day routine; when I created it, it was to give myself a creative writing outlet during a time in my education where I felt like I wasn't always able to express myself about things I really cared about. SiIvaGunner's been part of my daily life for over a decade now, be it laughing along with the channel or following the lore attentively, putting the pieces together of what the channel was aiming to achieve thematically, stuff I've written about at length on places like Your Best Nightmario. But even when I've been busy with other things, even as my life's moved to be more busy, I've kept the channel close through just listening to albums and cherishing my favorites in playlists; that was, in a way, also what I made the blog for, to create a time capsule of sorts for all the kinds of rips that I love the channel for most. And as part of that busy schedule, I was just yesterday struck by the realization of how much that day-to-day comfort has meant to me. How a rip as simple as Death of a Bachelor on Sunday Morning has served to comfort me through times I never knew I would run into.
I've been bonding with my girlfriend over the past year over a lot of things, be it games, movies, shows, and even SiIvaGunner itself. But we've recently been taking turns of showing one another some of our favorite albums, during which I got to show Maroon 5's Songs About Jane, and she got to show me Panic! At the Disco's Death of a Bachelor. I've alluded to my love for the Adam Levine debut here and there on posts like Sunday Morning, and its most certainly something I want to cover on here in more detail in the future, but its relevance to this blog is that it was a record that SiIvaGunner creator Chaze the Chat stood by loudly; a record that, compared to the somewhat soulless written-by-committee pop that the band produces nowadays, showed a kind of genuine vulnerability and passion from its now-infamous frontman. On SiIvaGunner, Maroon GO as a fake game was created essentially just to give Chaze an excuse to make rips of the band's output part of the channel's regular output, and even outside of the game its an initiative that rippers like Memmy have continued honoring through rips like Welcome to 2021! They finally invented summers that hurt motherfuckers😂 only at sonicforces.com. Be it simpler, sillier rips like the above, or more intricate tributes like Cryptrik's standout Season 2 rip Maroonbound, the band continues to be relevant to the channel throughout the years. And it was through this constant exposure to Songs About Jane in particular that I, in my mid-to-late teens, used the album as my first real gateway out of listening solely to video game music, and began to appreciate the art of music in a way I'd never really done before.
So, sure, it may be a bit silly of me to hold an album by a huge mainsteam pop act as such a core emotional pillar, but that's simply how it all shook out. Year by year, I continue to credit my newfound love for albums not just to SiIvaGunner and Chaze, but Maroon 5's debut by extension. I began seeking out rips using their work, and found increased comfort in the many Songs About Jane rips in particular; which, without knowing a single damn thing about Panic! At the Disco, led me to slowly fall in love with the simple variation presented by Death of a Bachelor on Sunday Morning. Even all these years, the comfort provided by Sunday Morning's instrumentation has never failed to put me at ease, and hearing it mixed with an outstandingly proud, jazzy, sincere vocal performance that I'd never heard before was compelling enough to me to add the song to my playlist of regular-rotation SiIvaGunner rips. Years and years go, and I continue to use the playlist - and the song by extension - as a source of comfort whenever the world began to feel too big and scary for me to handle.
Which, then, brings me back to life at present. With more responsibilities, work, and general exhaustion as part of adult life, I've had SiIvaGunner regrettably slip away from me more and more, a love which I feel unable to truly keep pace with. Yet the comfort it provided me remains, amplified, through my girlfriend; through someone whom I can share all those worries with, rather than just through sound put on to filter them all away. And it was, then, in a moment of sheer cosmic coincidence, that my two comforts just recently crossed paths as we listened to Death of a Bachelor together, and I finally got to hear the source to the vocals I'd found so much safety through for so many years. It was like an unshakable feeling of deja vu, a song I could've sworn I'd heard before, heard over and over again, yet simultaneously never heard at all, through instrumentation and production I didn't recognize at all yet with a vocal performance and melody that struck me harder than I could've ever anticipated.
Mashups have, often in jest, gotten a bad reputation on the SiIvaGunner channel, with overplayed funny-meme 4/4 mashups with sources like Space Jam becoming channel staples in huge part for the complete lack of effort taken in producing them, only made remarkable through diversions to the norm like with Season 1 outlier Hoopache. But its simultaneously wrong to automatically equate effort to value, to suggest that a simpler rip cannot strike just as much of a chord with people as intricate masterworks like One Winged PSYcho - V.S. Sepsyrop. We all understand there's value in simplicity, but moreover, a simple mashup has the power of landing a critical hit on one who already like one of the two songs featured, now critically attached to a rip despite not necessarily having mass appeal.
Its funny, then, that at just below 40K views, featuring two bands that are little more but subjects of mass ridicule today, that Death of a Bachelor on Sunday Morning continues to affected me as much as it still does. Brawlcats as a long-time contributor has many of this exact kind of rip in their resume, these kinds of critical hits; and it was through that attachment established through my love for Sunday Morning, that the second source used in the mashup wound up hitting as hard it did once I finally got to hear it. It was like a delayed second wind that at once reminded me of just why mashups like this, like Chance's Return to Dreamland, like You Give Me Color Power, like Door into a Hundred Summers and so many more, still hold so much value to me. They let rippers share music they truly care about in a trojan-horse gateway for sheltered VGM-obsessed teens like I once was, making me interested in songs I'd never considered seeking out on my own...and, in this particular case, let me bond with the love of my life just a little bit more.

Ripped by Chaze the Chat
If there’s anything I genuinely treasure the early days of SiIvaGunner for, it is for just how thorough of a time capsule its been for the mid-to-late 2010s internet. This is a phenomena that will likely become more thoroughly researched in the years to come, but as someone who lived through the terminally-online spaces of 2014, 15, 16 and onward, one could very tangibly feel that age of internet use morphing into another. It wasn’t a net-negative transition, of course, but it was a change; and not just one marked by the end of funny MLG videos a la slider dank version.
Rather, it was marked by a mass influx of new users, by the kids watching basement-made YouTube content in the 2000s now growing up to make more ambitious things, and most importantly by everyone starting to carve out their own corners of the web rather than mingling within broader categories. And in a way, it was that sort of mono-culture in particular that was kind of key to the appeal of SiIvaGunner so early on. Think of a rip like Respect Your Elders (20X-Mix); today, a rip referencing such a specific event, from such a specific part of one specific Nintendo game’s competitive scene might’ve well flown under the radar for lots of the people watching. Yetevery time the channel made such a reference, be it to Chad Warden, the DK Rap, Keemstar, or even to Vinesauce itself – the origin to the whole channel’s bit – it was assumed that a vast majority of the channel’s audience would nevertheless catch on in an instant. This was, again, because of how online spaces operated at that time; these all fell into the same broad group of “Gaming Content”, a community which, large as it may have been, hadn’t yet been drawn into hyper-specific niches of the online world thanks to tools like Discord servers, and were all fed a similar bredth of channels on YouTube as a result.
Now, I chose to open my discussion of Colress Museum with such extensive preamble, because I believe that context is essential to why the rip has continued to stick with me as a good memory. Because ten years later, AlpharadTV is no longer a channel that EVERYONE in the “gaming content” community is aware of as a key figure; and that’s because such a community, loose as it was, now no longer exists. With the dawn of the Paul brothers in 2017, YouTube decided to push them as the faces of the platform to draw in droves and droves of new general-audience fans; cue a global pandemic at the start of the next decade, and YouTube went from popular distraction to a cornerstone of current day existence; EVERYONE is now watching YouTube, and everyone there now wants their space. I would never dare say this has made SiIvaGunner itself inherently worse; yet it was, coincidentally, around 2020-2021 where I began realizing, with rips like Satinpanties Symphony covering games like Friday Night Funkin’ amidst others, that the world of YouTube had grown so much as to where I was no longer keeping up with the trends being leveraged. Those who once viewed the channel as teens are now young adults, making the kinds of rips for their kinds of niche interests.
And so, a decade later, a rip like Colress Museum might seem downright strange to have fond memories of, even a decade later. Being an early Season 1 rip, its hardly a high-effort masterpiece, nor did it lay any sort of foundation for rips following it to build off of. Alpharad’s popular, yes, but he’s popular within a sea of likeminded channels, one of millions of content creators. Yet in 2016, having something as silly as the Science Museum song, uploaded a half-year prior as a joke to barely 200K views, be adapted for SiIvaGunner, made me realize even at the time just how connected everyone was. Founder of SiIvaGunner, Chaze the Chat, has lived a completely different life from me, with many different interests, passions, and talents; and yet the ways of the 2010s internet made it so that we were drawn to so much of the same content as to form similar senses of humor and tastes on the online world.
It is fundamentally a little silly to place so much weight upon a rip as stupid as this, but it was a genuine cornerstone to making me realize just how much the internet has changed; and, in turn, realizing just how much the SiIvaGunner channel has grown. Because there were tons of viewers just like me who felt connected to SiIvaGunner, specifically because it was leveraging these online bits and jokes we were all following so collectively (does anyone remember YouTube Heroes! Anymore?), and those came to in turn be inspired to push the channel forward. There were tons of rips like Colress Museum back then, connecting the audience of YouTube viewers to the same kinds of bits they were all aware of, yet lying behind it all Chaze and others were always hoping and pushing the team to express themselves in ways more individualistic. Chaze himself is infamous for his insistence on Maroon 5 with rips like Everyday Goodbyes (SiIvaGunner Band Cover), but it always peeked through elsewhere as well, be it the enthusiasm for Sonic CD in rips like Collision Chaos Good Future JP [CD Beta Mix], or the love contributors like Triple-Q had for Love Live! and Snow Halation. Expressing that kind of individualistic love highlighted the worst part of the early-2010s YouTube – that being an outsider to such a degree, championing something not part of the mono-culture, made you cringe and weird, the reactions of which took shape as SiIvaGunner’s first-ever story in the Reboot; it laid the groundwork for the themes of the entire channel going forward. Cue the years to come, and more and more inspired fans came to be rippers championing their own interests, their own niches of the internet, and were finally met with the kind of passionate love they should’ve received all those years ago.
In summary, then, this post has been about a lot more than just Colress Museum. Yet it ultimately lies at the heart of defining a lot of how SiIvaGunner has evolved; highlighting the best and worst of the prior decade’s internet communities. Its ironic, its silly, its stupid, and yet it represents one of the many channels that bound the YouTube “Gaming” mono-culture together, a joke based on one of its core pillars of the time, the enjoyment of which reflected just how similar we all were at one point. We’ve all flourished in the years since, found new things to love, found ways to more openly express what we’ve always felt; yet its nice, at times, to remember just where we all came from.

Having someone ask ChatGPT in a meeting is like being a grown-ass professional adult in a room full of other grown-ass professional adults trying to solve a problem, while a colleague with one of those baby toys that makes animal sounds repeatedly presses the cow button. And we all have to stop what we're doing and listen to cow go moo and say "wow hm yeah that's not really what we're asking but the cow does definitely go moo, good thoughts"
Except increasingly the cow is being treated as a respected contributor to meetings as we pivot to a moo-centric business model that principally produces bullshit
