easthies & the knights moralis are so so interesting to me i fear. they kinda aggravate me of course. because even setting aside how strict they are with the law the way they handle it is a bit strange too? like when they capture coco during the river incident they prepare to wipe her mind then and there rather than, say, asking follow up questions like where or how did she potentially learn forbidden magic, useful questions which might allow them to better serve the law and apprehend more law-breakers or prevent more people learning forbidden magic. but it's kind of clicked now that that is the whole point. They care more for punishing what they see as 'wrongdoers' that it actively harms their ability to actually help or prevent further harm. and that's especially prevalent upon reading the manga. And, with how wonderfully crafted the rest of the story is i have no doubt that it's intentional. I think it's a really cool and intriguing commentary on the justice system... easthies and the knights dont care for the people the pact is supposed to protect. or if they do, they care far more about punishing those that disobey it that it actively diminishes their ability to protect those people and prevent the law from being broken again. i dont know do i make sense. am i crazy. did everybody already know this. ohhhgh man....

Manga Spoilers for the Anime-onlies below

Same thing happened with Euini. He was victim of forbidden magic, but because of the Knights Moralis's zero-tolerance policy that has them punishing victim and perpetrator alike, Euini, a firsthand witness, was forced to go into hiding (along with a proficient witch of the great hall, who went into hiding with him to protect him, so not only did they lose a firsthand witness, they lost personnel as well). And that was the best case scenario of that kind of situation. It wouldn't be unthinkable if some other victim of forbidden magic decided "in for a penny, in for a pound," and joined the brimhats! If they're gonna be punished anyways, why not go all in and seize the opportunity to cast magic that was off-limits to them?

It occurs to me, Orluggio created that fire spell that still produced light without burning that he had to nix in its original form, and it ends up being an allegory for magic itself.

Orluggio had to rework the original form of the spell, because he feared that if he had recklessly released it to the public, children wouldn't develop a healthy respect for fire. In their ignorance, they could end up hurting themselves or even others if they thought of fire as something to play with, something that didn't come with danger... Not unlike what happened with Coco.

The wider populace only ever sees the wonders of magic in the contraptions that makes their lives easier and spreads beauty. All knowledge of magic that can wreak untold horrors, forbidden magic, is suppressed and erased. So when Coco, a blissfully ignorant child, unknowing of what terrible things magic could be capable of, finds herself casting spells for the first time...

Pokemon Champions is teaching me so much about pokemon movesets. For example, Morpeko, despite being a Pika-clone, cannot learn Nuzzle. In fact, it's the only Pika-clone that doesn't get Nuzzle. And Meowscarada, despite being a cat, does not get access to Fake Out, unlike nearly all its other cat brethren.

It's almost disorienting how the adults of Higashi village can go on worrying about and comforting the other kids in the village, then in the very next breath, talk about how to go about killing Yuru so they can just get their dang hands on Seal already.

As painful as it is being a manga reader watching anime-onlies reacting to Yomi no Tsugai episode by episode, it is a bit funny seeing a bunch of people take issue with how little the characters value human life when that is indeed an issue of some of the characters of the manga, but it isn't the Kagemoris, or even Gabby, who are the worst offenders of this...

Given this is the same mangaka that turned a little girl and her pet dog into a warped and wretched creature from which there was no salvation, what are the odds that Asa and Yuru's parents were killed then turned into daemons by Mineyama's soul-roller daemons?

Reading anime episode reviews by people who haven't read the manga makes me appreciate the writing of Yomi no Tsugai. Reviewers are asking a bunch of questions (as they should) and they aren't dumb questions, they are good understandable questions, but manga readers know the answers to those questions. Things are the way they are, not because "We need to move the plot along," but they are the way they are because of the plot.

Asa running up to Yuru going, "You're not dead?! You're alive?!" kinda hits different when You Know. Before that, it's just silly. Obviously, he's alive. You can see him right there. He wouldn't be up and about, walking and talking if he had died.

I enjoy a lot the face they made Hana make in the anime when she says "I can't exactly sell it" because in the manga it didn't show and originally I thought it was like a tradition thing that would not be that relevant at all. And then you discover what her "Higashi odd jobs" are, and of course she can't exactly sell it and her face is exactly the vibe.

It's nice how we can retroactively see that, even before he became his guardian, Dera always valued Yuru over the interests of the village. Because if Dera had truly prioritized the desires of Higashi Village, never in a million years would he have ever made Yuru the master of The Divine Left and Right. He would've made himself the master every single time, because Yuru being the master of the very Daemons meant to check Break and Seal means that no one can truly control Yuru. There's also the fact that Daemons are incentivized to prioritize the lives of their master, lest they become strays, and Left and Right are some pretty beefy obstacles in the way of the people who want the power of Seal and need Yuru to die at least once for that to happen.

Now that I think about it, if people are capable of accidentally wandering into Higashi Village, isn't it possible for someone to accidentally wander out? It's kind of a wonder they let Yuru go out hunting at all when that's a possibility.

hey so you know how gonzo married akane so that his sons wouldn't grow up without a mother and yet she ended up leaving him anyways while she was pregnant. and you know how gonzo had an investigation to make sure jin was born safely, and how gonzo would talk about akane and never say a bad word about her. do you think he mentioned jin as well. do you think hikaru and asuma grew up knowing they had another brother that they most likely would never meet. do you think that when he showed up at the manor, they were ecstatic over finally being able to spend time together with him. do you think they did their best to include him and make him feel welcomed. do you think they wished he could've grown up with them. do you think they wished they had more time together.
