whenever I see jayvik college aus it makes me giggle bc a lot of the time viktor is like a double or triple major or whatever bc of his canonical workaholic tendencies, and one of them is always some engineering field (sometimes unspecified, which does also make me laugh) and one of them is always something to do with physics. or some other combination where between them they're in both engr and phys. and it makes me giggle because at my university the engineering and physics departments have a crazy rivalry, and i cant ever help but imagine the drama this would cause, especially with whatever those two guys have going on.

I can't give an accurate representation of the phys/engr feud because I myself am in engineering and would just be propagandizing, but its a pretty intense internal affair. if I was a more devout arcane fan I would do something about this. but I am not. so I just laugh about it occasionally

my personal favourite is when they show their science-y notes in the art and you can tell the artist just googled “physics formulas” cuz why are they only reciting random middle school formulas on the page😭

Honestly, the main problem I have with the live action HTTYD trailer has nothing to do with turning an already perfect animated film into a live-action remake. (I did a speech on this topic. I could go on for DAYS.) It has nothing to do with any possible differences that will be made (or a lack thereof).

It has to do with THIS.

THIS SHOT RIGHT HERE.

TOOTHLESS’ PUPIL. IS NOT A SLIT. IT IS WIDE FUCKING OPEN.

Throughout the ENTIRE animated universe of HTTYD — every SINGLE movie and TV show — a dragon’s emotion is conveyed through the size of their pupil. A slit signifies typically negative emotions, like anger and discomfort. A wide-open pupil indicates emotions like love and comfort. In the animated movie, Toothless’ pupil cannot be interpreted as anything other than a slit in this scene.

In fact, the creators of the animated film have talked about this decision. It was very intentional. To remove this detail pisses me off, actually. It’s a very clever way to convey emotion in in-human characters in a very effective way. Toothless is probably more scared than he has ever been in his entire life. Of course his pupil is going to be thin as fuck. I just don’t understand why this incredibly emotional detail has been taken out of this incredibly emotional moment between Hiccup and Toothless.

One of the dumbest httyd discourses I can remember would be when the names of nightlights and Hiccup & Astrid's kids were revealed, people got mad about them being stupid names or whatever. Did you really think a franchise with characters named "Snotlout", "Fishlegs", "Ruffnut" etc. would have dragons called something like "Eclipse"? Get real

just realized i can yap WHATEVER on here. other than just art :D

for my mutuals/viewers who enjoy httyd but havent checked out all their side series and such im telling you, you should. like it expands their universe so so so much its insane. they got everything from short films to full on shows. sure yeah the animation is not AS great as the movies so it needs some getting used to but its worth it to me

i personally really enjoy how the series had more time to fully flesh out the riders other than just hiccup like their little ragtag team. cuz in the movies i feel like they just kinda got dumbed down to just sideline entertainment because of the time limit. also they became a little found family afterwards which is my fave trope so thats really nice

if you were to ask me on heads up on how to get started i askchually uhhh am kinda lazy to list it rn cuz theres a lot (also thiss post is long now. if you ask i’ll do it fully though). but theres probs stuff on it online. just go through them chronically (timeline wise)
