adults being totally useless in kids media is also a reflection of how adults interact with kids irl, adults are often deeply uncaring toward the needs and problems that children face so this is just a reflection of reality for children.

when a kid is being abused by a peer and an adult says to “just ignore it” or “he just has a crush on you”, when an adult is abusing a child and another adult says “you need to respect your elders” or “you are making this up for attention”, when a child experiences injustice adults will say “life was never meant to be easy” or “you’ll understand when you’re older”, when a child experiences something dangerous or traumatizing an authority figure says “kids say the darndest things”, when children are merely curious about the world they get told “i’ll tell you when you’re older” or “stop asking weird questions”. no wonder children resonate with stories that tell them adults are useless - they are useless a lot of the time!

We played a directing, filming, and editing role in this short film. It was a very enlightening experience exposing us to our creative limits and the pleasure of creating with close friends.

However, one thing sticks out more than anything after its completion. Sometimes we think about the impact various pieces of media have on us. Xenoblade as a series changed our life into a much more thoughtful and introspective journey. There were many story moments, especially in Xenoblade 2, that were jaw-droppingly beautiful in the initial experience. Sometimes we'd lament that the hundreds or thousands that contributed to that moment would never feel that impact we felt. They put every piece together, they know exactly how it would play out. They likely worked tirelessly to ensure it was exactly as it was envisioned.

Now, we realize the impact of their creation was never hidden from them at all.

As mentioned, we directed and filmed most scenes and edited the final product together. We saw the bits and pieces come together. It was finally rendered and played out exactly as it was planned on the editing end.

And the impact actually hit as it never had before.
