Leftovers, like you said, sound gross and are gross. Maybe I’m just a snob though.”

“You’re actually making me blush,” Annie said with a laugh as she covered her cheeks. “Eh, to each their own. Growing up on a farm, leftovers are a way to prepare food without having to add stress. My mom sometimes made a weeks worth of meals in advanced if the schedule was full, and it was a way to focus on the more important tasks at hand. But I’m all about the down home, rib sticking comfort food, and for me, somethings will always simply be better the day after.”

“There’s still some left, Chloe, and besides, sharing is caring. There was no reason to get even, but that’s okay because yes, I am Neville Papperman and you’re going to rue the day! I can and you’re going to experience my wrath, just you wait. Sleep with one eye open, kiddo. I won’t be outdone by someone who can’t even reach the second shelf in the cupboard without a footstool.”

“Oh, good! Come come.” Rory insisted, clapping her hands together childishly as a drowsy-drunken smile appeared on her face. She took the other girls hand in hers and took off to look for two open seats at the bar. “Yeah, okay.” She finally nodded in agreement, as she propped herself up into the barstool. She decided not to keep pushing on not going home. As drunk as she was, she knew that had the situation been reversed, Rory was normally the one looking after all of her friends when they had too many, and when it was her, she never took a ‘no’ either. and she wasn’t about to spill all of her emotional baggage out to this poor girl, who she knew was only trying to help out of the kindness of her heart. How do you even explain to a stranger, that you don’t have a home to go back to anymore? She was already making a terrible enough first impression, she figured. Maybe she’d get lucky and she could pass Lilah’s apartment off as her own when she got back, that was if she could even find the place in her current state.

Annie let the girl drag her, awkwardly stumbling behind her as they made their way to two seats. Needless to say Annie wasn’t one for bars. She’d had a fake ID during her freshman year, but it was for her friends safety, and she’d hated every minute of them as drunken bull riders and cowboys who’d tried to get with her and her friends, and she was sure Hawaii would be no different. Looking around at the crowd, she turned back to the girl unsure of what to do. She’d never turn her back on someone who needed her, but truthfully she didn’t know this girl. Sure, she was peppy and friendly, but that usually was more of a hinderance in her experience. Puffing out her cheeks, she sat down on the barstool, unsure of how to act, but decided, even if it seemed awkward, to treat it like a normal situation. “So, erm, I guess we should introduce ourselves,” Annie said with a shrug, dragging her finger down the wooden surface. “I’m Annie.”

Yes, it’s always fun to have a horrible burn and then go back to porcelain skin that is slightly darker, and you only know because of the tiniest tan line you have that no one but you can see. Same! And the kids here are so great, and it’s nice to know I didn’t have to give up a day job when moving, because I was really into working with them, but was willing to do anything for a salary.

“Anytime! I always like finding the sweet little cherubs from the bunch. Beautiful? Aw! Thank you! You are too, especially your hair. It’s very lovely.” Annie said with a cheerful laugh. “Oh, I’m a bad seed, I cook to have leftovers because sometimes it’s just better the day after. Like it sounds gross when you say it, but really food that sits and marinates a night in the fridge actually gets better in flavor. Chinese food and pizza, on the other hand, may not do that, but they’re my go-to wants for breakfast.”

“Yeah yeah, I’m gooood.” Rory quickly answered back, holding both of her thumbs foolishly up in front of her face.”I’m just a clumsy little thing, I didn’t mean to knock into you like that. Are you alright?” She questioned, as she finally began to find her balance. “Home?” Rory perked her brow, forcing an ironic laugh as the word echoed through her head. “Yeah, right.” She drunkenly mumbled to herself, before she let her mood sink any lower, she perked herself right back up, setting her sights back to the bar. “Come on, at least let me buy you a drink for bumping into you like that.” Rory offered. “Please please pleeease.”

Annie forced a friendly smile, though the situation was beyond awkward. The girl was far-beyond-gone, and it made the back of her neck tense. At least the girl was a happy drunk, and deep down, Annie knew the situation could be worse. Nodding in encouragement as the drunken girl said the word, she nearly deflated when the girl declined. “Oh no, no, I think you’ve had more than enough.” Annie insisted, biting her lip. She never really had more than a glass of wine, and never really got into the drinking thing. Sure, she attended college, though she’d surrounded herself with girls like her - the type who enjoyed things like wild games of monopoly and virgin Shirley Temples. Biting her lip, she sighed. She couldn’t leave this drunk girl, that was obvious and she felt herself nod. “Fine. Fine, but only if you let me help you to your place after.”
