April 2026 Media Journal
Running behind this month I apologize! I didn’t watch any notable movies and while I read like 10 books most of them were junk. I mostly watched Korean and Chinese dramas. No notable music this month either so I’m highlighting Jimmy Kimmel Live seeing as that is my favorite way to start my morning; a cup of coffee & Jimmy’s show from the night previous. Special shoutout to Jon Stewart on the Daily Show as well. Those two keep me sane. <3
But yeah, A Song to Drown Rivers by Ann Laing and A Crane Among Wolves by June Hur are amazing books that delve into Chinese and Korean court politics. If you’re an Eastern Asia history nerd like me who loves a good romance seeped in utter tragedy— CHECK THEM OUT. I’m highly anticipating June Hur’s next book later this month that is a Josei era Pride and Prejudice!
Pursuit of Jade was a promising drama that while it did fall sorta off near the end still kept me the entire time. The main couples chemistry was amazing. I also read the novel this was adapted from this last month too but honestly, I couldn’t find a good translation so I was overwhelmed by it. The reason the drama stands out so much for me is that the visuals were absolutely stunning. Can This Love Be Translated— I have NO words. A top tier K-drama up there with some of my favorite romance ones like Something in the Rain, Doctor Slump, and Lovely Runner! At first I thought it was being a bit ambitious with some of its plot points but at the end everything came together wonderfully and the lead actor’s performances were amazing.
Until the end of May, my friends! Hopefully I am not late again when that time comes.
