Sometimes you just do a shitty job. You turn in a shitty paper. Or you get an extension and it’s late. Or it’s late *and* shitty. But you know what? You still did the thing. Try to do better next time.

You will be okay
Failed a class? Me too. My GPA at the end of my first semester of university was a 1.0 out of 10. I managed to fix it, and so will you.
Had a rough exam? We’ve all been there. It’s just one exam, it’ll be okay. You’ll rock the next one.
Feeling overwhelmed? It’ll be fine. Take a day or two, or even just a few hours, to focus on yourself, then get back at it.
You will graduate. You will pass your classes eventually. You will be okay.
if you had to drop out of a class you are not a failure
if you had to take time off school you are not a failure
if you had to leave school for good you are not a failure
your worth is not determined by academia and this goes doubly so for disabled people and others for whom school is set against them
College/Grad School Tip: Smile at your peers while they’re giving presentations. I know that class presentations can be boring to sit through, but presentations are always hard to give even if you’re an experienced public speaker. One friendly face can make the whole crowd seem more open and help people feel more confidence. We’re all experiencing academia together, so let’s all support each other.

Those of us looking for jobs may we find jobs soon!
😩😩😩
The only helpful study tip for me has been to learn to work ‘casually’,i.e, not thinking oh, tomorrow I’ll spend all day doing this so I’ll relax now, or needing to block out four hours to sit down and get in the zone; but instead reading on my laptop in bed when I get home exhausted, or in the LSE Garrick in the hour between seminars, stood up on the tube, before ballet class, as part of a lazy Sunday morning. It really helps cut the neurotic perfectionism that usually inhibits me working for DAYS because of minor interruptions.
start now. start where you are. start with fear. start with pain. start with doubt. start with what you have. start and don’t stop. you can do it
types of students ; study locations
library - prints or handwrites everything, makes their own study guides, always forgets headphones, watches netflix during their study breaks, owns a million pens but only uses like two
cafe - chai or matcha fiend, dresses up to feel productive, organized purse or bag, studies with one earbud out, everything academic contained on laptop or tablet
in bed - tendency to skip classes that don’t take attendance, fond of bubble tea and sweets, studies best when wearing comfy clothes, addicted to cute stationary and pens
lounge - no inside voice, takes charge on group projects or study sessions, master at using microsoft office, owns a million insulated coffee mugs, wireless headphones, actually wears a watch
kitchen table - cannot study without a snack, only drinks coffee they made themselves, keeps phone plugged in 25/8, likes to spread out, makes to-do lists on scraps of paper then loses them
bedroom desk - a creature of habit, gorgeous bullet journal, fiend for candles or diffusers, easily distracted by youtube or tumblr, eats a lot of fruit as a snack, talks to themselves while studying
Some new work 💛
