It worries me how little people seem to be discussing or even bothered by the unhealthy weights some idols seem to be at
For example, Wendy from Red Velvet.
Before Red Flavour, she was clearly not this weight, and appeared to be very healthy. In these pictures, however, you can clearly see her ribs and her legs are very very skinny.
This case of being underweight, did admittedly get noticed by many people, but seemingly mostly because it was weight loss, while many people don’t seem to notice idols that have been too skinny since debut.
One thing that always got me is Blackpinks legs, and the sheer level of skinniness they are. When ever I watched their dance practices or performances I always found it very worrying. Now, I’m not saying people can’t be naturally skinny, I am myself, but the idea of an entire four member group all being so thin is worrying. It’s highly improbable for them to all naturally be this level of skinny.
Rosé has been said to have one of the smallest waists in all of Kpop, at 24 inches, it is insanely tiny.
The only thinkable reasons I can imagine for this is that one, they are infact not eating propably, or two, YG purposely chose very skinny people. Both of these are very worrying, because these aren’t weights girls should be aiming for. We are naturally supposed to carry fat, it’s healthy, being this thin should never be encouraged as something all girls should aim for.
Finally, I’d like to talk a BTS’s Jimin.
This one, largely, has been rather ignored by many - seemingly because Jimin is a male. That in itself, is extremely worrying. You see before and after pictures tagged with “glow up” and wonder how people can’t be wondering how someone who was naturally chubbier - but healthy all the same - got so skinny. You could put it down to puberty, but it doesn’t sit quite right, since generally, puberty doesn’t shrink you down to that level.
You can find instances of him talking about how little he has been eating, how strict his diet is, and yet many people seem to not be bothered.
His muscle loss, additionally could be put down to the sheer amount of weight he has lost, shown by this statement from an article in the huffington post “very low-calorie diet plans that contain less than 1,200 calories a day may cause you to lose something your body really needs, muscle.”
Now, admittedly, I don’t know all the facts about weight or weight loss, or even these idols, and I do not want anyone to think that I am judging these idols if they are just naturally skinny, but I just felt the need to make it clear that many idols weights - and there are so many more instances I could have spoken about in this - do truly not seem healthy, and that this really is something that needs to be brought to light.
