i'm so pissed off with admins right now. like i join their really cute roleplay then within a day of opening and accepting apps they go inactive??? like what the actual fuck. i was in this one group and 'cause the group wasn't getting any groups without warning the admin just changed it to a whole different rp and when that rp got no apps she changed everything again like wtf.
Iâd say Iâm sorry that you came across the 0.1% of bad admins that barely put an effort into the group, but letâs be fair- most the admins are like that nowadays. Excuse me if Iâm mean in this one, bad admins are my actual number one pet peeve in the community. If you know you donât have the time, will, or interest to run a group, why even bother? Iâve been in groups where the admins only logged on for the accepting night, spent maybe two or three hours online, then went inactive. Just like that. In most cases they would return about a week later to say theyâre closing the group due to inactivity....... When it wasnât even inactive. In fact, I was in a group last summer that was surprisingly active and friendly for that time, it simply worked- despite the fact the admins were never on. The dash was active. How would the admins know that if they were never on, though? Long story short, the admin came back after about a week and said sheâs shutting the group down. After noticing the dash isnât actually dead, she thought about doing a revamp- yet again a stupid idea. A friend of mine who was talking to her eventually convinced her that was a bad idea and she handed the group down to its members, but god! Is it really that hard to find a group to join instead of making one when youâre bored? As someone whoâs been a part of this community for a few years now, someone who has seen a lot of trends start and end, Iâm gonna be frank here- I blame appless rolepays. I donât hate appless roleplays, Iâve had some fun times in them, but do I think theyâve contributed to this community becoming lazy and sloppy? Yes. I think things have certainly changed since they first came around, but does anyone remember the very first appless groups? Remember why they stuck out so much? It wasnât just the fact they didnât have an application, everything else was much simpler, too. There were no fancy graphics, just a minimalistic character theme with a single gif. No pages and banners, there was a single page with a short plot, rules with three bullet points at most, the short form of an application, and the link to taken faces. That was it, all of it on the same page. Iâm not really sure if thatâs still the signature style of appless roleplays, but you have to agree with me when I say throwing that together is not nearly as time consuming nor demanding as creating a group with a nice theme, pages with additional information, help for your members... Frankly, with most appless roleplays back in the day simply using the line âThis is a plotless town roleplay based on character developmentâ as their plot, the group could be created in no more than half an hour. Half an hour to create something that could potentially become something you would be a part of for months. Half an hour- compared to the days youâd usually put into research, writing, graphics, promotion, etc., of a good olâ app roleplay. Again. I am not blaming it all on appless groups. Iâm blaming it on the people who joined the community after appless groups were already a thing, people who have no idea there used to be such things as groups that would last for years. Thatâs right- years. I think that people nowadays donât really expect groups to last longer than a couple of days, which is exactly the attitude and expectations they have when starting one. Iâve met several people who abandoned their groups after maybe a week or two, only to tell me they only created it because they were bored and never really thought it would be successful in the first place. Iâve actually had people tell me they never meant the whole admin thing seriously, they were only looking for a way to entertain themselves for two days. Some didnât even create the group, they simply... Stole it. Why bother coming up with a whole new roleplay if you have no intentions of staying in it, right? At some point I convinced the admin of a group I was in to let me run the group after she left, only to find out everything, everything from the graphics to the plot was stolen. As the admin of the time, I ended up being the bad guy- of course it all got dragged through the rpc community as th crime of the year- it made me fed up with the community and was one of the first times I thought to myself- why even bother helping people, why bother with roleplays, why bother with advice... At the end of the day, theyâre either gonna ignore it, or use it for something thatâs simply just wrong. I am so thankful I found the group Iâve been a part of since the spring of this year, or else Iâm pretty sure I wouldnât be on tumblr anymore. Surprisingly, the group is appless. Donât get me wrong, I still love writing, I still love creating characters and coming up with different scenarios with my friends- itâs the ignorant people I have a problem with. What a shame they always seem to be the loudest.
