not trying to jump down your throat, I wrote my thesis on extreme right wing politics and publications so i have a vested interest. the circulation of this kind of "evidence" as though it's true or unbiased, and having it be taken as truth unquestionably, almost certainly contributes more to the far right than denial of moderate concerns. those kind of sources just exacerbate those beliefs. it's possible to acknowledge concerns without spreading misinformation or extreme-right propaganda.
Then as a fellow academic I get where you're coming from. I'm not removing the post from my blog because I originally reblogged to to refer back to later. I'm sure your thesis is accurate and like I said, I'm not taking any lessons from radical far-right news sources. Somehow I doubt any of my followers are either judging from the amount I lost just reblogging that lol
Then I would definitely give the sources in the post you reblogged some more scrutiny, as the vast majority seem to be either 1) individual anecdotal instances of violence without wider statistical support or 2) from extreme right wing publications that are very much lacking in statistical or journalistic integrity. if you're trying to add nuance to the conversation, it's a good idea to at least start with reliable sources. if you can't find them, theres a problem with your argument.
Believe me, if I were writing a thesis on this I would vet everything more carefully, but I'm not, I'm just saving a post that I think has a lot of interesting information that I'd like to look more into. Not really making any argument aside from stating that there are multiple sides to the issue of taking in migrants en masse. I'm lucky enough to live in a city with a large refugee population that has done a great job helping people start lives in the U.S., but not every city or country has had our success. Don't worry, I'm not trying to make a bold argument with Breitbart and the Daily Mail as my sources. Someone take me out back and shoot me if that ever happens.

Absolutely not against refugees - I think people being displaced by wars, especially wars they didn't start, deserve safety and care. But I just got in a debate with a guy who completely denied that there could possibly be any issue with a sudden massive influx of migrants in any way shape or form, and it made me want to have some handy sources for next time it came up. I recognize that it's a complicated issue and should be treated as such, and simplifying it to just being for or against helping displaced people tends to drive formerly moderate people closer to extremism. You can't solve problems by denying then as they happen in front of your eyes, and you also can't solve problems by completely closing off your country to refugees. I think a major reason the (terrifying) far right has gained followers recently is because formerly moderately conservative people have a few valid concerns that are being aggressively denied by the left, and it drives them toward developing extreme opinions about those problems.
There are pro athletes who cheat on wives, beat girlfriends, take drugs, flaunt wads of money on social media, act like immature fools in publicâŠand I havenât seen any of them take HALF the abuse Sid has the past couple days. You donât agree with Sid and the Pens going to to the WH to be honored for their accomplishment? Perfectly fine. Thatâs OK. I certainly donât love it either. Whatâs NOT OK is personally attacking Sidâs character which the real fans know is good and decent and suddenly turning him into this racist, elitist, monster of a human being which has never ever been thought of or warranted.
