Had to teach my sister what the term ‘shipping’ meant. Shes 5.5 years older than me, so to be on her level of media I used Aang x Katara as a simple example.

“If you like them together, then you ‘ship them!” My ignorant ass said, trying to explain how their term ship was short for relationships. Platonic, sexual, but most commonly romantic.

To which somehow she took shipping to mean who she would rather get in a relationship (self ship, she wasn’t far off!) with by saying “I like Katara and Aang but I ship the water siblings more.” I laughed so hard I cried, to which she was extremely confused, “Why are you laughing ? I ship Sokka- Zukos another good choice!”

I felt like the weirdest teacher in the world where I had to reexplain, to which she somehow took shipping to mean something along the lines of ‘hentai’ and how she no longer wanted to use the word ‘shipping’ or ‘ship’.

The call ended with us both screaming at each other like Stitch.
