How do you write healthy parent-child relationships?

this might be more response than you want, but interesting (and kinda depressing when you think about it) fact: there’ve been a bunch of research studies where parents have been asked what they think makes a healthy parent-child relationship, and they tend to like…not answer the actual question because they think they’re being asked what good parenting is, which is not the same. so they talk about things like helping kids with homework and making sure they eat well. children, on the other hand, usually respond to the same question with stuff that’s literally just the definition of healthy relationships generally. affection, honesty, respect, spending time together, sharing interests. and the real kicker is, objectively, we know that’s the kind of stuff that actually has a much better impact not only on whether or not the relationship is strong and positive but also the kid’s overall happiness and psychological health.

so, if you want to write a character who’s really intent on being a Good Parent you’d have them putting massive effort into making their kid Grow Up Right, worrying about shit like if they have The Right Friends and they’re spending Enough Time Outside. but if you want to write a good relationship, just make parent and kid laugh together and respect boundaries and be emotionally supportive, like you would when writing a solid pair of friends or romantic couple.

As much as I'd love to have the first witches in CRK, I hate to imagine what the arenas would look like 😭

Hear me out: change how arena limit works (eg: only one witch per team)

Gingerbrave design(s) and lore for my AU!

- This is how he looks a little into the adventure, sometime before Hero's Gate but after meeting Chilli and Custard.

- He still has the skulls on his chest, he just has a shirt with the same pattern

- His leather jacket used to belong to Chill but she was worried about Gingerbrave getting cold (she won't admit it though)

- Crown pin for Custard, star pin for Wizard and a Strawberry pin for... well Strawberry

- His limbs are darker than the rest of his body because he's burnt

- He would have a lot more hair if he wasn't burnt

- Slit pupils and fangs because he's related to Dark Enchantress (I only drew one because it's cuter and I'm also lazy)

Here's how he looked fresh out of the oven!

- Dark Enchantress snuck into the witches hut to place her own cookie on the tray to see if not being able to use an oven was affecting the results of her experiments

- She put Skulls on his chest so she would know which cookie was her's

- Dark Enchantress was going to abandon him when the witch forgot to take Gingerbrave out of the oven but then he broke out

- This sparked curiosity for the burnt thing and Dark Enchantress was going to take him with her but the witch came back and they got separated in the escape

- Also she gave him his shirt and that's why I used a dull magenta

Post Ultimate cookie

- Oh boy, things got rough

- Scratches and bandages from all the fighting

- He has a black splotch that's actually a piece othe Ultimate Cookies dough but it moves around and allows Gingerbrave to communicate with the Ultimate Cookie (lil bro thinks he's venom fr)

- His left pupil only looks like that when he's feeling intense emotions and it's like that also because of the Ultimate Cookie

- Eyebags because bro is tired

- His hair is growing back at least...
