gah i put this in the tags but tumblr ate my tag order and i can't get this theory out of my head so apologies for adding to your post but!
so like. i've been watching the Final Destination horror movies lately. and the Whole Schtick is:
- a person or group of people is in a situation that is about to cause their imminent death
- someone miraculously intervenes to stop said certain death. (visions of the future are usually involved)
- after this, death (slash the universe??? idk it's not clear) comes for that person in a series of increasingly unlikely ways until (usually) they just...die.
like, that's it. that's the entire plot. spoilers but very few characters make it out of those movies alive. but the thing is - you can get out alive if you work together and figure out the one (1) loophole
so Anyway i have a Theory that the entire plot twilight is basically Final Destination, Vampire Edition (tm.)
Edward says from the start that Bella's "number was up" the first time that they met - except!!! he, himself - after a very intense mental picture of the way in which it would happen - intentionally intervened.
in the movies it's usually a plane crash or something, that would cause the characters' deaths, but in twilight's it's another (usually) unstoppable force - the thirst of a vampire.
we know from MS that the Biology Incident definitely would have ended up with Much Death, but eddie boi grits his teeth, runs like the wind and circumvents the whole thing...
...and then proceeds to spend the entire rest of the series protecting bella from an ongoing series of increasingly unlikely near-death experiences (until she finally, well, dies in a bizarre, unpredictable way)
the only thing stopping twilight being a true Final Destination (tm) plotline is that, if it were an FD movie, everyone else in that biology classroom would have been going through the same thing!!!
in FD films, *everyone* who's spared from the initial Almost Certain Death moment is stalked by death in the same way, one at a time. it goes in the order they would have died, if the original events would have happened as planned.
and in twilight, we even know that order! (mostly) bc eddie boi planned it out in gruesome detail before he stopped himself, like which rows he would kill first.
okay anyway now i need a FD AU where the main plot is just. jessica, angela, mike, eric, etc are dealing with a series of increasingly bizarre and dangerous accidents, until one of them finally bites it and jessica and angela probably emerge as the Final Girls (tm)
and/or, jessica and angela figure it out, and end up saving them all
