Adult Consequences
…Alternis didn’t quite remember what he said. He was sure that his lack of sobriety had made his words flow more freely, and that he’d probably said he loved her more than once but was there something else!? Did he say something offensive!?
"…Some of it? D-did I say something wrong?"
She sighed. No point in pushing him when he couldn't remember. She let go of him. "Never mind."
-
Huh? What did he say wrong!? Alternis blinked confusedly at her.
Frowning a little, he asked, “What did I say?”
-
It wasn't that he'd said anything wrong. It was that he'd said a lot of right things… she was sure that even though she'd been smashed, there was no way she would have just slept with him on a whim. Sure, some of what he'd said had been a little weird (why she stab him…) but the rest of it. Had been kind of sweet.
And really funny.
"You said you really liked me."
-
Alternis blushed. Suddenly feeling (even more) shy, he looked away, fiddling with the blanket in between his fingers. "Oh. ...Well, didn't you already know that?" He mumbled. His comrades used to make fun of him for it, and he had proposed to her in the middle of their fight. As much as he'd like to think he was subtle about his fondness for Edea, it didn't exactly seem that way.
-
"Hey now," she said, but giggled. "Don't turn this back around on me!"
She had figured that he liked her, considering that she'd read his journal, which included how he'd been conned into reconnaissance in Caldisla just because she was mentioned, and all the flowery things he said about her. And yes, he had proposed, but she thought that was just him being under pressure.
Edea moved closer to him, close enough that she could lean against him and wrap her arms loosely around his torso. Oh he was warm and surprisingly cuddly.
"But you've never told me that you like me before... you should say it more often." It almost made up for the headache and the events of last night. Almost.
-
Alternis tensed up at the contact, because well... he was surprised! They hadn't really been this close in a long time... not since they were kids, anyway. Eventually he relaxed, and slowly began to return the embrace as well. He tested his limits even further by resting his head atop hers.
"Well... actually... It's more like... I love you more than anything else..." He mumbled very shyly.
-
She shouldn't have been surprised when he said it, but... she was. Mostly, she felt surprised that he said it, considering how shy and awkward and shy he was. She smiled though, and bit her lip, willing tears not to spring to her eyes.
"You're too good for me," she told him, not looking up at him. "I don't know how you can love me after all that we did to you."
-
Alternis pulled away slightly. The initial surprise in his eyes melted away into worry and sadness. "You... you didn't do anything to me. You were doing what you thought was right, same as I. I... I was the one that was stupid. I failed you. I don't deserve any kindness from you."
He had wanted to become stronger to protect her family, to protect her. And instead he'd turned his back on her and hurt her.
"I will always love you. Your strength, your kindness, your sense of justice..." She was everything he wasn't. The least he could do was make sure her light was something that stayed in this world.
-
"But I was wrong," Edea countered. "I was wrong, and I didn't know anything. You and Father… you knew the truth behind it all." Even though they hadn't actually told her any of it, which still kind of irked her.
"I hurt you already… I almost killed you. Even after you…" After he proposed. In all fairness, it had been terribly timed, but she could have been more gentle with her words instead of calling his feelings rubbish.
"I really don't deserve your love," she said. "But… thank you."
-
Well, maybe almost getting killed was what he deserved.
Instead of saying anything, Alternis simply hugged her tighter. He didn't know what he could say to make her feel better. He ached to make her happy, and maybe even... No. He shouldn't be selfish.
He kissed the top of her head lightly.
-
Alternis was allowed to be selfish sometimes! Edea wanted him to be selfish if he meant he was happy. Maybe if he were selfish he would fall in love with someone who would love him back and treat him right.
Until then, was it wrong for her to enjoy this? She leaned against him, smiling a little when he kissed her head.
"And here I thought I'd have to get you drunk to make you say all those things."
-
Alternis wasn't sure if he'd ever find anyone as wonderful as Edea though. Even if she didn't love him back, it was okay, because he wasn't sure if he could stop loving her. If all they'd ever be is friends, he was fine with that. Whatever she was okay with, he'd accept happily.
At her teasing Alternis whined slightly, hiding his face in her hair.
"I'm never drinking again," he grumbled.
-
"Uh-huh, sure," Edea laughed, grinning now at his embarrassment. Such a shy person! She liked him, wasn't sure if she loved him, but she liked him. If he was okay with that, she was content with figuring out how she felt later, after they had time to be together.
She leaned back to look at him. "But - how are we going to have sex again if you're not drunk?"
-
When Edea pulled away, Alternis tucked his chin and glanced off to the side. She was being mean.
"No sex ever again."
-
Oh Alternis. He was so easy to tease. This is why he'd been her favorite playmate and brother when they were younger. When they were younger, of course. Now that they were grown, he had outstrippd her in nearly every way. He was taller, stronger…. she admired him as much as she envied him.
And now she sat back on her heels so she could cradle his face in both of her hands. "That's too bad… I wanted to try again, maybe?" When they were sober… and could talk about it?
It was weird, really. She hadn't expected to wake up in his bed, but it - she wasn't mad. Just hungover. And maybe the sex would be better next time.
-
Alternis rested his cheek against her hand, murmuring softly. His hand twitched, but it. It wouldn't be right for him to touch her. She might not like it. Instead he curled it up into a fist, clutching the blanket sheets by his side.
His eyes had started to trail up to meet hers--but at her words, they looked down again.
"...D-did you really? ...You're not making fun of me, are you?" He asked warily, maybe joking a little himself.
-
Ohh, Alternis. Maybe she should be angrier at him? But it was hard to stay angry at him when he was being quiet and well-behaved, so eager to please. Like a little lost puppy. She was stroking his cheek when he spoke again, and she frowned at him, jerking his face up to meet her eyes. Alternis!
"Why would I say that to make fun of you? Have you ever known me to do that? If I want to have sex with you, we're going to have to sex again - if you want it too, I mean."
-
Erk--"S-sorry..." With his face in her hand like that, he couldn't look away, though that didn't stop his eyes from trailing off.
Alternis squirmed a little. Did he want to sleep with her again? He just wanted to be with her... Sex was not something he thought of too often. But could he really say he was opposed to it?
"I. I do..."
-
Sex was not usually something that Edea thought about very often either, preferring other, more satisfying things. But last night had been interesting, just kind of - bad. She would like a second chance.
Eventually. She was too sore to even seriously think about doing it now, and didn't know if she wanted to try again anytime soon... but she sat back and looked at him.
"What else do you want?"
-
"Huh?" Alternis looked at her blankly for several moments. What else did he want...?
...He didn't know? It wasn't really a question he got often, or something he thought about either. Did she mean from her? Or in general? Either way, he didn't know how to answer her question.
"I... want you to be happy...?"
-
"That's not what you want!" she countered. Okay, maybe it was what he wanted, but it wasn't what he wanted.
"I mean - you just slept with me, Alternis. I should be beating you up or getting my father to go after you, but I'm not. Do you know why? Because I want you to be happy too!"
-
Should she!? ...Alternis was so confused, and maybe a little happy? One moment Edea was saying that they could have sex again in the future, and then she was saying that she should tell the Marshal about their shenanigans. He didn't know.
"I. ...T-thank you?" Alternis continued to look at her with a puzzled expression. He was still trying to figure out what made him happy! What did he want...?
"I want... to be with you? I..." Want to hold you and listen to you talk about your day and be there for you.
-
She wasn't saying that she wanted to beat him up or tell her father about what happened. She was saying that well, it wouldn't be very weird if she did, because they had been drunk. They barely remembered it. It had been terrible.
But it was Alternis, all the same. And she cared about him. She worried about him… she was really going to have to be careful about drinking with him in the future, because if they were going to do anything, they were going to do it properly!
And she wanted him to be happy, he deserved that much.
She paused. "I… want you to be happy, too." Relationships were weird. They were just weird. They took commitment! They took time. But if what had happened last night had really gotten her pregnant, then she'd have to commit. And even if it didn't, could she go back to pretending there was nothing between them? He'd finally said to her face that he loved her, and well.
"Okay."
-
"...Okay." Alternis said quietly, before easing back into the bed. He felt like he should say something else, but what?
For several moments he sat there silently... and then edged over carefully, placing his arm around Edea's shoulder and pulling her closer.
-
"Okay," she repeated, once he had come over. She lifted a hand to touch his arm. "Do you want to try? Being with me, I mean." They had already skipped a few steps like first date and all that but they could try.
-
...Well, Alternis certainly hadn't expected that. And honestly, he wasn't sure what that would entail! It would just be too sudden--he hadn't even asked her out or done anything for her. What was he supposed to do!? Was he supposed to wait by her door every morning? Or at night? She probably wouldn't even like that! ...Right?
"O-of course, but I haven't... done anything... I. I need to take you out somewhere first."
-
"Alternis, really." Whatever ideas he had in his mind about courtship and proper romance, or even something as absurd as asking her father for permission needed to stop. "You want to be with me, and I want to be with you. That's all we have to do."
She pauses for a moment before continuing. "Besides, you slept with me last night without buying me dinner. I think that says something."
-
The intricate plans in his head had included whisking her away to Caldisla or maybe Ancheim and having dinner with her some place nice where they could overlook the sea, and it was going to be so romantic. ...Except this happened. (And maybe his original idea had been too much anyway?)
"I--I was drunk! Let me buy you dinner now--" Wait. "You want to be with me?"
-
"Oooh, dinner would be great," Edea replied, ignoring his other question. Hadn't she made that obvious? Hadn't she just said that?
Except he looked so confused and upset and like a sad confused puppy. "Yes, Alternis. I want to be with you."
She decided to drink with him to have fun last night, but as things escalated, she had apparently decided to have more than just some fun with him. Even though she had been drunk, Edea had faith in her morals - she wouldn't sleep with someone just because they were there.
-
Alternis just hadn't heard her say those words exactly! Maybe the implication was there, but he didn't want to get ahead of himself and look like a fool. He was already really good at that.
Like for instance now. After she had said those words exactly, his brain had stalled out for several moments, but when his emotions finally made it from his heart to his head, he acted impulsively.
Wrapping a hand around her waist, he leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers.
-
Oof! She hadn't quiiite expected that, but only let out the tiniest of squeaks as Alternis kissed her of his own volition, without even any prompting. Really, she should be proud. He needed to be his own person, follow his own likes and wants, more often.
Before her squeak could scare him off, however, she grasped tightly onto his shoulder and kissed him back, smiling. She could try this, at least. Try to make him happy... he deserved it.
-
Alternis wanted Edea to do it because she wanted to...!
But when she returned his kiss, he felt a swell of joy in his chest and smiled into her lips. Was this actually happening? And he was completely sober for it!? He had to do his best to make this kiss as not-sloppy as possible, he didn't want to ruin his second chance after all.
-
She wanted to. She wanted to do this and wanted to make him happy…! More than anything she wanted Alternis to be happy just as much as he wanted her happiness. He'd been through so much and all because of her.
Her heart was pounding against her chest as she carefully kissed him back. She probably had more experience with kissing than he did, but that didn't mean she was any good. She'd have to learn with him, and she leaned slightly into the kiss so she could do so.
-
Alternis gently sucked her bottom lip, as his hands played with the ends of her hair, his fingertips twirling around the strands. He wasn't really sure what to do, all his knowledge of this sort of thing came from camp and occasionally racy romance novels. In this sort of situation, the man would either rip off his own top, or his lover's but he was pretty sure he did not want to do that.
He tried to press deeper into the kiss, but slowly at first. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable.
-
Oooh, he was being bold. Edea giggled against his mouth and pressed closer against him. And then, worried that perhaps her giggling had scared him off, she parted her lips slightly for him, trying to invite him in.
-
Alternis thought her laugh was adorable, and it only further solidified the fact that he loved her.
He leaned in closer, pressing his tongue against the front of her teeth first before going further.
-
Oh… Edea groaned a little at the feeling of his tongue, even though she had been expecting it, and her fingers squeezed him a little. His breath smelled terrible, but that was to be expected since they hadn't had a chance to really clean up.
Her thoughts were beginning to wander, but she focused on him, curling her tongue around his and moving so that she could sit on his lap, as close as possible.
-
Alternis felt his chest tighten and his stomach turn in pleasure at the sound of her noises, and he pulled her in closer, helping her rest against him more comfortably.
He felt a little gross and not exactly the most attractive at the moment, but he was afraid to stop right now. What if this was a one time thing? What if it never happened again?
-
Even if they were gross, Edea didn't know if she wanted to stop because she had no idea what else they would do. Talk about their feelings? Get out of bed? Neither sounded appealing! So maybe if she could stay in his arms a little longer until she was good and ready to get out… she moved with him, until she could sit on his lap and straddle him, arms wrapping around his shoulders.
He was so, so warm. It felt good.
-
Alternis was the worst at talking about his feelings, so he automatically Did Not Want that. What they were doing now was completely fine, even if he didn't exactly know what he was doing.
He did his best to help keep her steady and hold her still as he continued to kiss her.
-
But Alternis! Edea wanted more. She wriggled a little and pulled back, both for some air and also to look at him, brushing some of his hair away from his face.
"Was that so hard?"
-
Well, something was hard but maybe not whatever she was referring to...
"N-no...? ...A little. It was kind of hard," Alternis mumbled pathetically. Not when they were in the middle of it, but to get it started!
-
This was so weird! Alternis was so warm and cuddly and - a decent kisser, actually. Better than last night, for sure. She wondered, a little bit, if other parts of last night would be better now that he was sober.
"Alternis," she said, and cradled his face. "You deserve to be happy! I want to make you happy, just as you want my happiness too."
He was a good boy. He'd earned this love and affection.
-
Edea's words caused a bubbling of warmth in his chest, and he whimpered softly, leaning forward to nuzzle the top of her head.
"You do make me happy," Alternis murmured, squeezing her tighter.
-
She giggled and leaned into him again, tucking her head under his chin. "I'm glad… you make me happy too."
Even if she was never ever drinking with him again! She kissed his chin.
"What do we do now?"
-
Ah... was today even real...!? Alternis never thought he'd hear those words, and yet...
"Whatever you want. We could go back to sleep. Or I could buy you breakfast..." Or was it later than that? ...He couldn't really tell, to be honest.
-
Sometimes he annoyed her, like last night when he had been reluctant to drink with her, but he made her happy, especially once they had started to use words to communicate. She was thankful that he was alive, thankful that he was here with her… she knew she had to cherish him.
Edea wriggled against him at the idea of breakfast. The toast hadn't been enough. "You should buy me breakfast and lunch and dinner," she suggested, grinning.
-
Well, could Edea really blame him about being reluctant with drinking? Look what had happened. ...Not that that was a constant, but he knew he did dumb things when he was drunk.
"I'd be more than happy to," Alternis smiled leaning in to peck her on the cheek. Was it okay if he did that? He wanted to do that. He wanted to do that for the rest of his life.
-
Edea would be happy to let him do that for the rest of his life, if he was volunteering. She smiled when he kissed her cheek and leaned forward to kiss his in return. Now that she'd slept, her head was nearly done pounding, and she didn't feel as sick, and the soreness was about the same as a training session… it wasn't bad.
"Thanks, Alternis. Thanks for everything."
-
Alternis blushed at the returned act of affection. He wasn't sure if he'd ever get used to that...
"W-why're you thanking me...? You're strange," he murmured, placing another kiss atop her head.
-
"Because I'm happy, silly!" She laughed, and returned the kiss again. "Let's just never do this again? Or at least wait a while before the next time?" Even though she kind of liked this, kissing him and being cute with him, the headache and hangover she could without.
-
"I'm okay with that. I can't really stand the idea of another drink right now..." Unless it was coffee. That was something Alternis would actually really like at the moment. He paused for a moment, kissed Edea's lips lightly, before pulling away.
"Let's get breakfast."
...Maybe he could hold her hand while they walked there.
-
She had never really considered herself as someone who was interested in things like boys and romance. She preferred sharp steel and training until she bled. But being with Alternis, even though it had only been… 30 minutes? Felt right. She felt happy.
Edea smiled at him, then decided to just get off the bed and face the day. And possibly her parents, if they asked her about why she was about to be seen leaving Alternis Dim's room. She should get dressed, try to get ready for the day. while a part of her wasn't looking forward to it, the other part knew that she would be fine. She had Alternis, after all.
Adult Consequences
"Everything that you said last night," she replied, still keeping her grip on his shirt. "Do you remember what you said?"
He had said… things that had made her blush, and that had been part of the reason they’d slept together (the drink being the other part). But surely, he remembered… surely he meant it.
...Alternis didn't quite remember what he said. He was sure that his lack of sobriety had made his words flow more freely, and that he'd probably said he loved her more than once but was there something else!? Did he say something offensive!?
"...Some of it? D-did I say something wrong?"
Adult Consequences
She frowned sharply at him, especially when he flinched away. Was he scared? Did he think that she was going to hurt him?
"I remember-" That the sex had actually been really lousy. He’d been so handsy! And his kisses had been sloppy. She remembered banging her head on the wall when they tried to lean back, and remembered someone being bitten at one point…
"Not much else," she decided. "But did you mean it?"
Well, it was a good thing she didn't say all of that. Even though he had a pretty good feeling that that was exactly what happened himself. Alternis was positive he'd be terrible at sex, even if he was sober. How was he supposed to manage it drunk?
And what else was he supposed to think!? Edea had sounded upset! And she just grabbed him by the shirt!
"M-mean what?"
Adult Consequences
Mmm, no. Practicing with his hand was supposed to be something else. Not kissing.
She stared at him for a moment before reaching over to grab his shirt. “Alternis,” she all but growled. “What else do you remember?”
Yes well, Alternis didn't have time for that either.
Erk--the dark knight held up his hands in surrender when Edea grabbed his shirt, flinching away slightly. "I don't--Why? Do you remember something?"
Adult Consequences
"Hmm," Edea mused for a moment, chin in her hand. "I remember you kissing me." It had been pretty sloppy and wet, but not really that surprising. She didn’t have much experience either. Mostly she remembered that it tasted like booze.
"I remember," she finally said. "You could use some practice."
Alternis pouted slightly. "It's not like I have time for that..." Besides, who was he supposed to practice with!? His hand!?
Adult Consequences
Oh yes. Edea remembered his compliments. He lost his usual eloquence once drunk, and she’d found it hilarious. She very graciously kept that opinion to herself, however. She had also been the one to practically force the rum down his throat.
"You know, I’m not going to punch you for kissing me." Actually, she was a little impressed he’d gone for it himself, even if he had been drunk. He was so susceptible to suggestions while wasted, it was actually really funny, even though she barely remembered it now.
She flopped back onto the bed, making a face as her head reminded her she was still a little hungover. “The kiss was pretty bad.”
...She thought he was usually eloquent?
Alternis blushed at her statements. "D-do you even remember it...?" It wasn't his fault! He... he'd never kissed anyone before, and he had been drunk.
He winced as he tried to remember the kiss in more detail, partly because his head was hurting, partly because he was cringing at the thought of his sloppiness.

Okay, it was a little too mean to laugh at him so much, but she - she couldn’t help it! Edea buried her face into a pillow, shoulders shaking as she tried to contain herself.
Okay, okay, she had to be calm. Collected. This was really a very serious topic, with serious consequences. They had to talk about it..
But she was still wiping at her eyes when she looked back at him. “What do you remember?”
"I... I remember drinking after you asked me to, and..." Alternis may or may not have started spouting out really flowery compliments in his drunkenness? Or at least an attempt on flowery compliments. He vaguely remembered saying something along the lines of, 'you're so pretty, like. Like a really pretty thing. Like the prettiest thing.'
Yeah...
"I. ...I think I tried to kiss you," he mumbled, hiding his face in the blankets.
Adult Consequences
Edea didn’t know how to reply to that, except well. Laughing. Laughing a little nervously, hiding it behind her hand.
"Between my legs?! Alternis, I don’t know how much that would help, unless you’re wanting to go for another round."
Which, as amusing as it sounded, she was not up to. She pressed her thighs together instead. “Maybe we should talk about what happened last night. I’ll be fine.”
At her response, Alternis immediately heated up, hiding his face behind his hands. "I-I didn't know that's what you meant...! I. T-thought you meant your back or something..." He was practically whimpering as he spoke.
He couldn't find anymore words after that, and simply nodded at her next statement; his face still hiding behind his hands.
Adult Consequences
She squinted very slightly at him, still stretching under the covers. Was this so surprising? He had shown before to be a terrible romantic, and not one to really think about things like sex and relationships and responsibility beyond the romance and proposing at terrible times aspect of it.
"I’m a little sore," she finally replied.
She also didn’t know what to do, really. It didn’t seem to right to simply pretend it had never happened.
Alternis squirmed awkwardly as he waited for Edea to respond, glancing around the room and turning his head towards the pillow. When she finally spoke up though...
"...Do... you want me to give you a massage? Or I could. ...Draw a bath?" He answered uncertainly. Those were the kinds of things you did for people who were aching, right?

"I-I know that," Alternis stammered. Hadn't that been established!? Isn't that why they were both here!?
"Is... is there anything else you need me to get for you?" He didn't know how else he could make all this up to her.
Adult Consequences
Edea was certain she was never going to drink again. Or have sex again, considering how sore she felt. But at the very least, Alternis was trying to take care of her… she could appreciate that. Or at least she would when she didn’t feel so bad. For now, she just glared at him as she pulled the blanket off her face.
"Carry me there, then," If he wanted to take care of her…
[Because I was away on a trip, and tumblr mobile isn't the best way to format text posts for me, we scened in gdocs for the duration of my afk. Here it is under a cut!]
Alternis hesitated at the request. The last time he touched her, they'd had sex, apparently. ...Not that he could remember it, which he was honestly thankful for. He knew 100%, without a doubt that he'd embarrassed himself.
But was he about to let Edea just lay there when she was suffering her first hangover?
Sigh. No.
He knelt down and scooped her up, trying not to focus too much on his hand against her skin. A wave of nausea washed over him as he stood back up, and he had to pause for a moment before walking over to his bed and setting her down.
"Better?"
-
This was better. Edea let out a soft noise when he picked her up, and wrapped her arm over his shoulder. He was being so nice and gentle that she almost felt bad about being so demanding, almost.
Instead, she snuggled into him, clinging even when he set her down. "Mmmm, Alternis. You're so wonderful." For now at least.
But he had been drunk too. She tugged at him to get him to rest with her in bed.
-
Alternis felt his heart beating faster at Edea's little noises and her snuggling. He ignored his initial reaction to hold her closer and nuzzle her, but... (Well, his original reaction was to pull away and drop her.)
"I. I need to get the food." He pushed her away very gently, and walked away to pick up the tray before sitting on the empty side of the bed.
...What were they going to do? Were they going to eat and snuggle?! That... was he ready for that?!
He put his feet up and placed the tray between them, keeping his eyes forward, his body awkwardly tense.
-
What if she wanted to cuddle? What if her head was still pounding so much that she just wanted to close her eyes and curl up with him?
Or maybe she should eat first? And drink lots of water, her mouth still felt like cotton.
Edea watched him for a moment or two before reaching for the delicious jam covered toast.
"Did we really sleep together?" she asked, suddenly.
-
"I... think so. I. Don't know why else we would be..." Alternis brought the mug of coffee to his lips and sipped thoughtfully.
"...I'm sorry."
-
There was really no other explanation to why she hurt so bad, either… she wondered if the sex had been really awful, or if it was partly due to her hangover. She growled lightly to herself as she started eating, nibbling at the toast at first, just to make sure she didn't throw it up.
"You don't have to apologize…" she vaguely remembered that drinking had been her idea, and Alternis had been trying to be the voice of reason, until she had found a whole bottle of rum. Hmm.
-
"I. Just... I'm sorry." Alternis was supposed to be the responsible one! Why didn't he try to stop them from drinking that much?
...What would happen when the Lord Marshal found out??
He stared grimly into his coffee, suddenly feeling his appetite completely gone.
"...Are you feeling better?"
-
Her father wasn't going to found out! Because well... that would be bad, for both of them. Even if she sometimes felt that her father favored Alternis more than her, she knew she was still Braev's daughter, and that he could be protective at times.
"Don't apologize," she repeated, a little annoyed. For all they knew, she'd jumped him.
She eyed him over the toast she was still chewing on. "I... feel a little better. My head still hurts." But the toast and the jam were helping. "Are you okay?"
-
Alternis nodded slowly. "I... will be alright. Just keep resting. Water will help with your headache."
-
"Nnngh," she groaned again. Nothing would ever help with this headache. She'd be in pain forever. Though the water was at least helping to clear her head a little bit.
"We're never doing that again," she decided.
-
Which thing? Both things?
"...I don't drink usually." If Alternis drank alcohol as frequent as he drank coffee... he was pretty sure people like that were called alcoholics.
He was just going to ignore the other thing Edea could be referring to.
-
Of course she meant the drinking. What else could it be?
She laughed, then grimaced. That had hurt her head too much. "I've seen your journal. I know how much you drink." He was a social drinker and very susceptible to suggestion when drunk. It explained a lot, really.
-
Alternis blushed at her "confession." He didn't like the idea that she'd seen his entries, considering how much he wrote about her.
"I... I only drank because they made me..." he mumbled pathetically as he stuck a piece of toast in his mouth.
-
She would have giggled at him, especially at the way his cheeks flushed, but that would have made her head hurt some more. Instead, she smiled over at him, taking another piece of toast. "There's nothing wrong with that! I was glad to see that you had fun with them… maybe you were even friends."
Oh… they had been friends until Edea and her friends had killed them, at least. She went silent, trying to think of any other possible topic they could go on… oh, there was one.
"Did we use a condom?"
-
"Maybe." Alternis grumbled. He was pretty sure the last time he had drank with the Sky Knights they were just manipulating him into being a scout, but... he didn't exactly not like it.
"...I hope so. ...Did you see anything in the bin?" He was pretty sure there was nothing still on him when he woke up. ...Was it on the floor?
What if they hadn't?
He felt his stomach drop at the thought and started glancing around the bed and the floor.
-
This was requiring too much thinking. Edea made a face at him as she continued to eat, wishing he had put marshmallow on the toast instead of jam. Maybe then then she could wake up.
She watched him for a moment. The headache was doing a good job of muting any panic or fear that she probably should be feeling. As soon as it was over, though… she was sure she'd be upset. Hopefully not at him. Hopefully.
"Maybe you didn't even finish," she suggested helpfully before sticking a whole piece of toast in her mouth.
-
Alternis wasn't sure how to take that--what was the implication of that? Did it mean he fall asleep halfway through? Was he easy? Or inept?!
"...I. I'm not sure..." He sunk down, resting further into the bed.
-
It wasn't very nice of her to do this, was it…? Edea watched him carefully, especially because too much movement just hurt. Wasn't he hurting too? And wasn't he probably freaking out as much as she would as soon as she woke up fully? She chewed on her toast quickly and swallowed.
" I…" She had no idea what to say now. How did one even start talking about things like this.
"I - I mean, I'm not complaining!" No, her thighs were sore and her head hurt, but she couldn't blame her head on his performance. "It's just - it's the hangover I'm really bothered by right now… whatever happened last night, it's behind us."
-
"Yeah, I guess..." Alternis mumbled dejectedly. He was tired, and his head was aching, and he was just so confused about everything. Especially his emotions.
Wasn't this what he wanted with Edea? ...No, maybe not. But didn't he want to be with her? Couldn't he use this as an opportunity to try to start something? Did he want to put this behind them?
...Thinking about this was kind of depressing. And he still wasn't sure if they had used protection!
"...I'm sorry," he added pathetically, unsure of what to say. Afterwards, he just slid further into the bed and pulled the blankets up.
-
Edea shot him a look of surprise. Of course he was sorry, she expected him to apologise, but it wasn't really his fault. It had been both, hadn't it... they'd been drunk, and she knew that she'd been willing, otherwise it would never have happened.
"Don't," she told him, and carefully and slowly slid out of the bed so that she could move the tray off of it, along with brushing off all of the breadcrumbs. "You don't have to apologise to me. I'm sorry, too."
She was fairly certain the drinking was her idea, and he hadn't been able to say no. Edea sat next to him on the bed.
-
"It's not your fault. It's just... We both made a mistake..." Maybe technically Alternis hadn't, or... had?? Of course he wants to be with Edea, but... not like this he supposed.
"If anything were to happen because we didn't um. You know... use..." He wiggled around awkwardly, unable to help his blush as he spoke. "...I would take responsibility and. Help."
-
"It wasn't a mistake!" she tried to argue. Mistake was a bit too harsh to use. Just - it was a bad decision. They hadn't been thinking, they'd been drinking... but any "mistake" that came about from this was something she would just have to accept, wouldn't she? She had to live with all of her decisions, good or bad.
It's worrying, of course, if they hadn't used any sort of protection. And she couldn't remember much of anything, just flashes here and there. Words. Feelings...
She didn't miss his blush, either, and gave him something of a smile. "I know you would. You're so dependable like that." Even if she was nowhere near ready to have to deal with something like that, at least she wasn't alone.
"We'll figure something out. It'll be okay."
-
Alternis nodded somberly. If he was dependable, then none of this would have happened...!
"You should rest. I'll be here if you need anything."
-
"Here?" Some more rest sounded nice, to help make the headache a thing of the past. But she stared at him for a moment. "You too, won't you rest?"
-
Did she want to go back to her room? Alternis was feeling kind of woozy, but he'd walk her there if she wanted to go back... Though he did want her to stay; didn't they used to take naps together when they were younger? The thought of doing that was nostalgic, but was it weird now?
He nodded. "I will."
-
She could walk herself to her room, if she wanted to. But… she didn't know if she did. It was true, they took naps together when they were younger. It was practically essential to share a bed especially on colder nights, and she remembered sneaking into his room very soon after his arrival, to curl around him and read him stories and pet his hair and tell him that she'd keep him warm… but things were different now. They weren't children anymore, and they had slept together.
They needed to talk about it, but her headache made her want to avoid the subject altogther.
She brushed more breadcrumbs off the bed before sliding her legs under the covers. "Move over, then. I'll keep an eye on you."
She couldn't run from it or him forever. Maybe after a nap they could actually… talk.
-
Alternis scooted over and pulled the blankets up over himself a little more.
"You don't need to watch me... I'm not a kid," he half-pouted, half-grumbled. He wanted to protect Edea now that they were older, though he did feel safe with her.
-
His bed was nice and cozy, even it smelled a little. She made a face at him as she settled down against his pillows.
"You're not a kid… I think last night proved that. But I'll watch over you anyway," she said, stretching a little and poking him with her foot. "We'll talk when we wake up, okay?" By then maybe the damn headache would be gone and she could think about something other than the throbbing in her head.
-
Alternis turned over onto his side to face her. "...Thank you," he said with a soft expression in his eyes.
-
Now she was the one who was blushing. Edea turned her face into one of his pillows so that she could hide it, mumbling softly under her breath.
He shouldn't be so kind to her after last night, after all. She was fairly certain the drinking was her idea… the sex, she didn't know. But maybe after a few more hours of sleep they could figure it out? She tugged his blanket more tightly over her shoulder, frowning a little as she tried to fall asleep through the throb in her head.
-
As tired as Alternis was, he didn’t want to close his eyes right away… Maybe it was creepy? But he wanted to watch Edea for a little bit. At least until either one of them fell asleep for real. Tentatively, he reached over to brush her hair back.
-
She smiled, though she kept her eyes closed, humming slightly at his touch. It was maybe a little creepy, but she didn't mind if it was him, at least right now.
Once they figured out what had happened last night though, that was a different story.
-
Alternis was pretty sure that he’d never be able to be with Edea like that, but it was okay if they did friend stuff right? Touching her lightly was totally a friend thing. He pulled his hand away after he brushed her hair behind her ear, not wanting to come off too weird. He closed his eyes, and in just a few moments, drifted off into unconsciousness.
-
It was a little hard to sleep with her head still hurting, but she tried - and was pleasantly surprised when she woke up a few hours later, feeling much better and feeling very warm. Alternis was close by, and she peered at him beneath her lashes, watching him sleep. He was… so peaceful looking. So cute. Like a baby.
-
Alternis slept lightly, his headaches and dry mouth bothering him and rousing him from his unconsciousness several times throughout his nap. When he'd finally awakened permanently, he found his legs tangled up in the blankets, and Edea watching him from close by. He blushed and tucked his chin, glancing downwards.
"Did you sleep well?"
-
"I slept ... okay," she decided on, after a moment. It hadn't been bad. It had really helped her headache, even if her mouth was still a little dry, and her thighs still and ached. "You?"
She moved a little closer to him. -
"About the same," Alternis mumbled. He heard the blankets shift as she moved closer, and looked up reflexively, his face getting even redder.
What should he do?!
His hand twitched as he contemplated his next course of action. Slowly, he moved his hand and placed it around her shoulder in a lazy half-hug.
"D-do you feel better?"
-
"A bit," she replied. "Head feels better. Like I can actually think. Do you want to talk now?" Even though she really didn't want to get out of bed, because it was nice and warm and cozy and he was even more so, they would have to talk eventually.
But it was really funny to watch his face turn red. She smiled at him.
-
"W-we can. Where do you want to start?" Alternis glanced off to the side. He wanted to look at her, but it. It was too much. He was afraid.
-
She wanted to roll her eyes at him, but that would probably be unkind. But if he could face against her in battle, and fight monsters and dragons and charm demons, he could look at her now. She wormed one arm out of the blankets so that she could grab his chin and make him look over at her, squishing his cheeks to ruin any attempt at seriousness he might have.
"Do you remember anything more?"
-
Ackkk... This was different! Alternis could handle himself in combat. Everything else was... not as easy. Especially involving personal relationships.
"I. I think I might have kissed you first..." His words slightly muffled by Edea squishing his cheeks which were getting warmer by the second.
"S-sorry..."
-
Oh this was not nice, but she giggled at him, especially as he tried to talk with his face all squished like that.
"Did you?" She tried to remember. She did remember kissing, mostly because it tasted a lot booze, like pretty much everything else that night.
"Stop saying that you're sorry! Be a man and own up to it."
-
Be a man? Alternis was reminded of romance novels he'd read, where the man would just pull his love into an embrace and kiss her roughly.
...Yep, not doing that.
"I. H-how?"
-
Edea let go of his face, so that he could talk a little easier, and so that she could take him more seriously. "We had… sex." Now she was the one pausing, and her cheeks colored. "We totally had sex."
-
Adult Consequences
She was still on the floor waiting for him. It was nice and cool, though hard. Like him?
Rational thought was a thing of the past, she decided, curling up with his blanket. As soon as her head stopped throbbing, she’d be good to go, but she needed water and food and maybe some cuddles. Cuddles would be nice.
And then they would have to talk about what actually happened. The drinking was one thing, but she was fairly positive they’d had sex, somehow, and that - that was another thing entirely.
Had it been good? She hoped so… because there was nothing good about this morning after.
When Alternis was in front of his bedroom door, he had to pause for a moment to collect himself. He knew in the back of his mind that they'd slept together, but he still wasn't sure if he was ready to admit it. Or confront it. He was really good at ignoring things he didn't want to deal with.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped into his room. Walking over to where Edea continue to lay, he knelt down and set the tray beside her.
"...The bed is more comfortable, you know."
