Does Irish dance ever just make you feel like..
MY LIFE

Hi :)
Hello!
I need new legs
Had such an emotional moment yesterday packing up at the studio that I started crying.. and I’m not one for emotions. Last year, I thought my competitive career had come to an end without me agreeing to it. I was teaching full time, working at home everyday, while having a vitamin deficiency I was unaware of. I was mentally and physically exhausted every single day. I barely even danced when I went to dance to teach the younger classes. I wasn’t sure if I would return to feises, and the oireachtas was the last thing that would have crossed my mind. Basically, dance was at the bottom of my priority list (boo adulting). When it came time for oireachtas entries this year, it was truly a toss up decision for me. I had spent time in the studio over the summer just for fun and to keep in shape. I wondered if my school year would be as taxing, if I would have enough time to practice, etc. My boyfriend probably wanted to kill me I talked about it so much!! I was really unsure until the day of. My teacher told me that she would just enter me so that I wouldn’t regret it, and if I ended up not wanting to dance it wouldn’t be a big deal. Long story short, I’m so glad I did. Turns out your second year of teaching is much easier and I have had way more time and energy, not to mention, it has brought me back so much sanity and joy. I’m mostly happy that having the oireachtas in mind has forced me to dance more and improve for feises. I finally feel on the right track and am going to keep pushing after the O. I do not care what happens this weekend.. I am just so overjoyed and thankful to be getting the opportunity to do what I love. Never ever miss a chance to dance!!!
Good luck to every one dancing this weekend! My only hope for you is that you soak in how incredibly grateful you should be to be living your passion. ✨
Wooo! So glad you've been able to get that joy back from your dancing. Good luck!
Brain: doing Worlds is not good idea. Not enough training done this year, not enough time to catch up, not enough time to save... many reasons no. Also Brain: we could do All Scotlands instead!
Is there ANY traditional set that does not have rocks?
yes, king of the fairies! as least my version doesn’t have any rocks
2nd step and 2nd set of St Pats
Where were you two years ago?
Remembered a post like this from a little while and how inspirational it was. It is important to remember how far we’ve come as Irish dancers especially going into the Oireachtas season :). Reblog and say where were you two years ago in dance!
Two years ago, I was about to get off a transfer ban and was a novice with no firsts. I had no idea how I would do once I got off ban and still had a lot of work to do before I would reach my goals. Today, I am halfway to open championships. It’s crazy what two years can do.
two years ago I had just come off of a broken foot. I had been super disappointed because I hadn’t made it into a dance troupe I wanted to be in and wasn’t feeling very confident about my dancing at all. I was excited that I had moved two dances up into prizewinner despite the broken foot - but at the same time sad that I only had two dances in PW. Overall I was just frustrated with the many injuries I’d had.
Amazingly I’ve been relatively healthy for the past year (knock on wood - to put it in perspective, I usually have at least 1 debilitating injury per year). I’ve been in said troupe for the past two years and I’m travelling to Germany with them to perform in the fall, woohoo! I’m also (finally!) in preliminary championships. I’m incredibly amazed with what I’ve accomplished and how far I’ve come: just a testament to never give up.
Two years ago... I'd just qualified for Worlds for the first time in two years. I'd missed by one place two years in a row so I was ecstatic to have finally got it :)
And I'd finally started to remember why I loved dancing so much... esrlier that year I'd thought Montreal World would be my last comp if I qualified, but by the time I actually did qualify, I was already planning for Providence and beyond :)
Hey Tumblr Irish dancers, I need help!
I’m by no means a makeup expert, so I need the assistance of all of you who love feis makeup.
I have a confession, and I’m so embarrassed I need to whisper it: I haven’t bought new feis makeup in over 10 years… there I said it.
Needless to say, I’m horrified by this realization and I plan on replacing everything I’ve got. But the problem is, I can’t even read the labels on the stuff that’s left, and I know it’s not the best products I could be using.
Therefore, I present a challenge to Irish dance tumblr: make me a list of essential Irish dance makeup that doesn’t cost more than $100 in total.
I’m a graduate student and I don’t have an unlimited budget or time to slowly build my makeup collection. What do I need for a full face of Oireachtas makeup if I’m starting from scratch? This includes brushes and applicators. Assume I have nothing.
Any help will be much appreciated with likes and reblogs! Merci!
I’m not a make up expert at alllllll either, but E.L.F is affordable makeup. A lot of their stuff is like $1-$5.
NYX is a blessing
ELF and NYX definitely for affordable but decent quality. Got some of their brushes from Target in the USA when I forgot to pack mine for NANs and they are ridiculously good for the price. NYX pencil eyeliners are great. Love maybelline master precise for my liquid eyeliner. And honestly for mascara, the likes of maybelline or NYX would be fine - I usually get whatever is on special as it should be replaced regularly. Get a decent eyelid primer.. If you do that, it will help the eyeshadow stay better and reduce creasing, no matter what brand it is. Also - if you stick to neutral toned eyes (smoky greys or Browns) your shadows will be more versatile.. You can keep them to go with future dresses and also use for general makeup as well, so the investment is more practical

Who says your old? Screw them. No such thing.
