Once Upon a Time Appreciation Week:Â
Day 1 - Favourite Main Character: Emma Swan
âThe only one who saves me is me.â
Which Swanfire scene did you dislike most, and why?
My first instinct wouldâve been to say the one in Manhattan when he quite literally laughs at her painâŠbut I wanted to do one that hasnât shown up yet, so I cheated a bit. This isnât technically an SF scene, but for me, Nealâs presence was very strong. This was definitely one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the show for me, and itâs really Nealâs fault that (17-year-old!) Emma had to go through this. Thereâs the obvious, that he had unprotected sex with a 16- or 17-year-old girl. Then thereâs the fact that sheâs in prison for his crimeâand therefore shackled to the hospital bed while giving birth.
And of course we canât forget that because the first person she opened her heart to used and abandoned her, she feels worthless and unlovable to such an extent that sheâs sure sheâs incapable of being a mother despite already clearly loving her son. So she makes the incredibly difficult decision to give him up for adoption, to give him what sheâd hoped would be a better life than (she thinks) she could give him. Sheâs so sure that she isnât good enough for her child (after all, she wasnât good enough for his father) that she canât even let herself look at him for fear that she would change her mind and make what she thought would be the selfish choice to keep him. It kills me every time.
Okay so really look at this right here, this shows how really young Emma was when she was with Neal. Emma is about 15 years old in this most recent episode, so she isnât that much older when she met Neal.
So this is what she wouldâve looked like. So really look at this, you can really see how problematic it is, and I will never understand how certain Swanfire shippers can consider this âcuteâ or âhealthy.â Just⊠no.
[part one] - [part two] - [part three]
Iâm so tired of certain SF BAâs trying to justify Nealâs actions by saying that Emma had to discover her own destiny before believing in herself and the curse. That is such a crappy way of saying that what Neal did was nothing bad at all and Emma needed to be left in prison and alone for her entire life because she âneededâ to figure things out on her own. That is such bullshit.
So, last night, I was re-watching some of S1 of OUAT and I got to the episode called âThe Strangerâ and this quote really stood out to me. This right here, clear canon proof, that Emma needed someone to help her and guide her. That Emma needed someone to help her believe in her destiny.Â
And what weâve clearly seen, in canon, that Henry was the only one who guided her towards her destiny, even Emma, herself, said that it was HENRY who brought her home. Not Neal, Neal did NOT bring Emma home. He did NOT help her fulfill her destiny, he did nothing but cause her endless trust issues and an extremely broken heart. Neal didnât do anything to help Emma.
Just going to leave this hereâŠ. [part one]
[part one] - [part two] - [part three] - [part four] - [part five] - [part six] - [part seven]
This is the scene where Neal tells Emma that he needs to go to Canada without her. And you can see by her face, that she is heartbroken. The one person she thought she found a home with is leaving her too. This is how Emma really looked at the age of 17.
This is how her reaction would have looked if they had used Abby Ross instead, who btw is closer to Emmaâs age in Tallahassee.
Yup, I found a screencap that covered almost the full page and you are completely correct!
On the bottom line it clearly says: Neal Cassidy may be in possession of stolen fire arms.
The top pic I sharpened it a bit and the bottom is the original. This is some scary stuff because it wasnât just the police that were looking for him, it was the FBI too! And it says that Neal might be in possession of a gun, and if Neal did have a gun wtf? Why would be think itâs okay to bring a 16/17 girl along in a car with stolen guns.
What he did was extremely dangerous, and to put a 16/17 girl in a mix was just fucking foolish of Neal. I mean, seriously! This makes me even more fucking upset! It disgusts me so much!
Omg, I want to seriously throw up, this is so disturbing, this is what Emma would have looked like when she met Neal. This is how young Emma was. Ugh, this hurts my eyes and soul..
And that last graphic is the scariest, look at Nealâs creepy face looking at Emma.. *shudders*
[part one] - [part two] - [part three] - [part four] - [part five] - [part six]
Emma and Neal fighting the moment they first saw each other after 11 years.Â
âYou brought him here! You brought him to me! Why would you do that?!â - Neal.
âHey! Iâm the only one allowed to be angry here!â - Emma.
Hmm, true love!1!!!
Me every time I see a âNeal Cassady Deserved Betterâ Post in the OUAT tag...

Has someone/ can someone make an edit to that tiktok sound that goes âthat little girl is a child I donât wanna see you sniffing around herâ to Emma and Neal when they first meet
Someone on tiktok said that Emma and neals relationship was âsuperiorâ and after I laughed at that utter ridiculousness I got petty and commented âwe love the 23 year old who took advantage of the 16 year old đ„°â
This blog still hates Neal Cassidy. Heâs a piece of shit.
Always has and always will
Heâs the absolute worst
looking back neal was waaaaaay too nonchalant when reuniting with emma in s2
like man you see the girl you abandoned and sent to jail for the first time in 11 years and you just đ
also never mind taking her feelings into consideration and showing some more remorse for what you did to her.....
He had no remorse and every time I saw the way he laughed in Emmaâs face about her pain, I just wanted to punch him so badly.

Just need to talk about one of my favourite blind-and-youâll-miss-it moments - the moment where they find Neal in the Echo Cave. Itâs just so telling in terms of Emmaâs reactions.
First of all, once they realise heâs here, she averts her eyes, putting off the moment where she has to look and acknowledge the truth: heâs alive, and heâs here.
She knows what this means. And she literally doesnât want to face it. You can see her eyes slide around, and very briefly over to her parents and Hook as if to remind herself and make sure that sheâs not alone, that she doesnât have to face this alone. And only then does she manage to look across at Neal.
Then Neal notices them, and yells âEmma!â - and Emma recoils.
Itâs not because his shout is startling - none of the others react to it, so itâs not the surprise or the volume. Emma is the only one who takes a step back. And they make a point of showing that, because the next shot is a closeup on Emma as sheâs recoiling.
He shouts her name and her first instinct is to step back, away from him. Her movements are defensive; sheâs stepping back, a little behind Hook, putting him between her and Neal. And sure, you can read that as a shippy metaphor too, but my read of it is an instinctive defensive move. Putting more distance between them, and maybe also getting behind someone she trusts to help defend her.
Itâs a tiny moment, but it says so much. Even before she makes it across to him and tells him âI was hoping you were deadâ, right here, you can see why. Sheâs not ready to face him again. Sheâs been hoping that she doesnât have to. After everything theyâve been through, Neal means pain, to her, and she doesnât want to go through it again. You can see the scared, lost girl there, the one who was betrayed and abandoned and hurt. You can also see why it will never work between them - her instinctive reaction is to put distance between them, to get away from him. Thereâs no urge to reach for him at all.
And at the same time, thereâs a bit of internal conflict, because of course she doesnât actively want Neal dead. It just would have been easier for her if he had been. Heâs a reminder of all kinds of pain, and so she has this moment of instinctive fear that sheâs going to have to go through that again, before she braces herself and faces the situation and gets on with rescuing him, because she might be scared, but sheâs also incredibly brave.
(note: if you have anti-anyone stuff to say, please donât do it here, thanks)
