How has feminism helped you?
Not your grandma, mother, or relative. You. Not the women in the middle east. You.

I think feminism has helped me think critically about who I want to be and what I think is right. It has helped me come to conclusions about what it means to be a man, and what it means to be a woman in America. Even though the movement only focuses on women, in many ways it has made me think critically about how BOTH genders are stereotyped, since refuting feminist points or agreeing with them both require diligence and research into the truth (for me, at least, since I’m not one to accept shit without evidence).
As someone who does not consider himself a feminist, and actively dislikes many feminist mantras, I’m glad for the existence of feminism.
On a separate but related note, I’ve begun to realize that when you start moving out of social media and into the adult world, feminism becomes much more benign. I’ve been friends/colleagues with countless feminists, but I can honestly only list 1 or 2 people that show the levels of ignorance and bigotry that some of the tumblr SJW communities can show. For most of those people, feminism was a label that connected them, and was a way to virtue signal, it wasn’t a cult of outrage like we see on social media. It’s not for me, but still.
I still don’t consider myself a feminist, but the ultimate point is that I think it’s a good thing for people to see feminism and ask themselves “do I want to be a feminist?”, “do they have a point?”, “are they full of shit?”, “who do I want to be, then?”
As a movement, it’s hella flawed, but it’s a flawed movement that can still be really helpful in developing people’s personal ideologies, including mine.
