working at a movie theater is fun because we get to laugh at all the annoying things people say after watching star wars but then today a legend was born when this girl takes about 10 steps out of the theater turns to her friend and says “yeah I got to look at daisy ridley for 2 hours but god at what cost”

Say what you will about George Lucas, but he made the OT and the prequels because he wanted to tell a story. He had a great amount of help on the way of course, but at the beginning, that’s what it was that started this franchise. A desire to tell a story.
Disney, on the other hand, has only one goal in mind - to make an unholy amount of money. That’s all there really is to it. And it shows. The cracks were already there in TFA and Rogue One, but the directors had managed to give their films heart and present fans with some hope for the future. But with TLJ, the illusion that someone, anyone, at LF/Disney actually cared completely disintegrated. They are not even pretending anymore, they’re just blaming fans for being always unhappy, for being stuck in the past (at the same time as they try to capitalize on our nostalgia through fucking Solo), for not understanding this new brilliant direction the franchise has taken.
The thing is, we understand perfectly. That’s why we are upset. They are not interested in making Star Wars films, they just want to make films with the Star Wars brand, regardless of quality, tone, message or genre. Because if it’s licensed as Star Wars and has all the spaceships, robots and other appropriate window dressing, it must be Star Wars, right? What else could there possible be to a franchise millions of fans fell in love with and kept alive for 40 years…

they really gave us a female lead in a star wars movie & made her kind and good and angry and powerful and complex & then spent the next 2 movies revolving almost her entire storyline around a white male war criminal who abused her, abused her friends, abused her family. all the while validating all the people who romanticized gaslighting and torture. for fan service lmao
