I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy

Outdoor cat owners have no concept of basic ecology and it shows. "You're saying my kitty is EVIL for following its instincts???????" obviously not, you idiot, its an animal. I don't blame it because it is designed to hunt and doesn't understand human morality. The cat's human owner, though, should stop pretending that millions of people letting their pets hunt native species for fun WON'T make their ecossystem collapse. If you stop hearing birdsong in your neighborhood its your fault 👍.
Also cats are domestic animals????? Its your pet. Its your responsability to take care of it and it certainly doesn't look like you are doing this if your pet spends 90% of the day on the streets. Outside cats are in great risk for being ran over, stolen, beaten, poisoned, mauled or eaten by wild animals. A mildly bored cat is way better than a dead one and besides? Just offer your pet enrichment. You don't need to risk its life to keep it happy. You can even let it outside with supervision!! Look how many options we have. Insisting the only way to keep your cat happy is allowing it to wreck the environment and possibly die is not only fucking irresponsible, but also lazy and shows that you don't really care for the wildlife around you.
I live in a neighborhood with so many outdoor cats. They will fight in our front yard at night. They will sneak onto our back porch. We have a dog who hates cats. He has actively chased them from our yard, and if a time ever came when he happened to catch up to one, it would be a bloodbath.
Our neighborhood is near a field that happens to be home to at least one coyote. I have seen that coyote wander down the road and people have even spotted it in fenced backyards before. I'm sure one reason it dares to wander into backyards is because it knows there are cats wandering freely around here.
The red tailed hawks in the area may not be large enough to carry off most full grown cats, but that doesn't mean they won't try.
Raccoons aren't exactly nice to cats either.
And i can easily point out several houses, including my own, with flowering plants out front that could absolutely make a cat sick or worse. Lilies, for example.
Even before tackling the problems of cars, malicious people, poison from pest control, or the ecological damage cats themselves cause, just the fact that other people will decorate their own yards with plants that can poison a cat should be enough of a reason to keep them inside!
Hell, just the fact that you don't know what they're doing or when they'll be back should discourage you from letting a cat wander outdoors! Anything could happen out there! You don't know what they're eating, you don't know what injuries they might get, what diseases they could come home with, or anything. That's scary! Just keep them inside!
GLP diaries part ???????
I thought I was going to start the GLP within the next couple months. HOWEVER because I am on a high deductible health plan with [redacted] paid out of [redacted insanely high amount of money] it would cost eight hundred American dollars to get a one (1) month supply of Ozempic. Yes my doctor wants me on the most publicly clockable GLP that may or may not have started The Whole Discourse Around GLPs and Weight Loss and Celebrities Making It Impossible For Normies to Fucking Get It. Great. Bet.
The thing about it is I’m not in dire need of it right now and I’m not going to die of bad blood sugar immediately. The barrier is the god damn useless insurance plan that up until this point had been the only one I thought I could afford, except I have this pre-existing condition called “aging.” So like: There are other drugs that my doctor can put me on in the short term to address the blood sugar. It’s okay to look forward to addressing the weight loss part of it if it will genuinely make me feel better, but there is no fucking reason to cry and try to scrape together $800 for the next six months when I could be, you know. In therapy about it.

You all have to go see Is God Is. Big ol' trigger warnings for abuse, attempted murder, murder, etc. It is a horror film but I (who am a horror baby and cannot generally watch the genre) managed to watch it and it is SO GOOD. Like, stick-in-your-brain-circling-imagery-and-i-want-to-talk-about-it-with-my-wife-all-day-instead-of-working good.
For squeamish people like me: none of the violence is shown on screen. It doesn't mean it's any less effective or horrifying, mind you, it just isn't explicitly shown like some cheap shock value gag.
Classes will be taught on this film. I am SALIVATING to hear Saeed Jones and Zach Stafford talk about it, GOD I hope they talk about it. I am sure there are cultural layers I am missing.
If you love film that uses symbolism and the visual language of metaphor and archetype and myth to tell an utterly captivating story, GO SEE THIS FILM! And then BLOG AT ME ABOUT IT SO I CAN HAVE SOME RELIEF!

The goods are collected and, if need be, stored somewhere for use by the customer-owners
If fees need to be collected (for maintenance/repair/replacement, or fuel, or to pay off loans that were taken out to buy the good) they are managed by the customer-owners democratically. Any excess profit is either used to expand the offered services or donated to other local orgs (e.g. Food Not Bombs, community gardens, etc)
This model has been applied to everything from tools to cars to housing and it works great. And if money needs to be collected (rather than surviving solely on donations), the rates are much, much lower than conventional rental services because none of it is going to line the pockets of some bourgeois whose only contribution was having the money to buy up something that people need
