Casual reminder that these are all official heights

Dunban had a feeling that root of her isolation would be deeper than simply “getting some air” so without a word he leveled himself with his hand before taking a seat beside her. The night was as peaceful as it could be, and yet as he listened to her, he could only imagine the storm possibly brewing inside her mind. He understood the feelings of self-doubt all too well. But while Melia always presented herself with confidence, the fact remained that she was still rather young to have so much responsibility thrust upon her. Dunban looked straight ahead of him, at the clear sky above and the village below, his thoughtful expression hidden from her view.
“That depends on what you’re ready for.” He wasn’t exactly keen on politics and thus struggled to give any sort of helpful advice. So he didn’t. Instead, he thought carefully about what to say next, and then took a deep breath before sharing part of his story. “Years ago, when I was sent into battle for the first time, I thought that I was ready for anything. I used to be rather foolhardy because I did not humble myself to the same level as I did the rest of my squadron, and thus saw myself as invincible. So when I came out of it barely holding onto my life while friends of mine did not … it brought everything back into perspective. I listened to my authority figures with greater care. I focused in on the matters at hand. I adapted.”
Dunban paused and turned his head to face her, his usual stern expression faded to reveal a gentle smile. “Now, I’m not a leader by any means, so I can only speak from experience. But what I do know is that when I had my heart in the right place, it gave me the strength that I needed to persevere through anything that stood in my way.” He made it a point to hold eye contact with her as his left hand moved to rest on top of her right, giving it a light reassuring squeeze. “If I had to pick only one person whom I believed had the heart to lead, then it would be you, Melia Antiqua. Without a doubt. The entire time that I’ve known you, you have adapted, and you have grown. And I, for one, am so excited to see the princess that I know become the empress that I know she can be.”
Melia certainly hadn’t been expecting Dunban to regale her with a tale from his past, but she couldn’t say she was opposed to it. Learning that the hero of the Homs had his own fair share of doubts and mistakes in his past certainly did make her feel more at ease with her own insecurities.
When Dunban gently squeezes her hand and smiles at her, giving her exactly the kind of positive reinforcement she needed at the moment, Melia finds herself melting into the comfort he was providing. She could certainly see why Shulk and Reyn saw the man as an older brother figure. She could see herself feeling the same way before long.
“Dunban... You are truly an impressive man. Within seconds of arriving, you have told me exactly what I needed to hear. If someone like you, a hero to your people, can believe in my potential as ruler... Then perhaps I am more suited for the role than I give myself credit for.”
She squeezes his hand as well, scooting just a little bit closer to him as she does so. Her eyes drift up towards the night sky once more, before she brings her head back down, deep in thought.
“I, too, have lost people because of my shortsightedness. The Telethia in Makna Forest... It took a fair few of my subjects from me, because I distracted them by being too stubborn to trust their abilities over my own.”
“It is part of why my determination to be a fair ruler for my people runs so deep. I feel the need to prove, to myself and to others, that their deaths were not in vain. That they died protecting the woman who will become a just empress for all.”
puts a flower crown on melia's head.
Melia gently reaches her hand up to touch the flower crown as it is placed on her head, admiring the craftsmanship with her touch before slowly moving her hand back down, leaving the crown right where it was.
“I must say, Reyn, I never expected you to be capable of such delicate, fine craftsmanship. You truly surprise me each and every day.”
She then bows respectfully at the taller boy.
“I am truly grateful for this gift. I shall cherish it for as long as I am able.”

✧ | “A millennia…?” Mythra’s taken aback by the girl’s sudden outburst and surprise that the Aegis herself doesn’t know the existence of this Bionis that she stands upon right now. She too, also peers up at the skies, but there doesn’t seem to be any titans flying above their heads–nor from afar. How strange… This phenomenon is not normal, and she’s even more confused than ever. (Not even Foresight would help her in this situation.)
As the individual introduced herself as Melia, the blonde merely nods, listening. She’s never once heard about the existence of this world, and it’s practically impossible to walk to another universe. Golden eyes blink as confusion is written on her own face as well, for she’s never once heard about the race of “Homs” nor “High Entia”, not in her lifetime.
“Mythra.” She answers, her Core Crystal and other parts of her dress glowing. “I am Mythra. I’m a blade. Most people know me as The Aegis.” That being said, there’s no telling what’ll happen if she and Pyra are away from Rex too long–he’s their Driver, after all. “I don’t know about the High Entia or Homs, but I have seen Nopon around. However, Bionis is a whole new level of a mystery to me.”
“A Blade, you say...? I have lived for 88 years, and yet I’ve never heard anyone in all that time mention ‘Blades’... At least, not in the context of a living being. Each day is a learning opportunity, I suppose. In that case, I suppose it makes sense that you have yet to hear of Homs and High Entia, if we have not heard of you.”
She decides to take the girl’s statements at face value, considering that they probably wouldn’t get anywhere fast if she questioned everything that came out of the blonde’s mouth. But the girl calling herself ‘the Aegis’... It brought to mind another particular individual Melia had met recently, and the sword he wielded.
“We shall get into the details of the Bionis later. For now, I have a more pressing question.”
“An individual who calls themselves a ‘Blade’ must be knowledgeable on various weaponry, I’d imagine. Would you... happen to be familiar with a sword known as the Monado?”
Perhaps this girl could help shed some light on how that mysterious sword worked.

✧ | “Bionis? Alcamoth?” The Aegis tilts her head in confusion, arms crossed over her as the woman that casually answered her question. “I hate to break it to you, but I’ve never heard of such places until today.” Mythra was separated from Rex, and the others in this mysterious land that the other proclaimed to be the Bionis. “It’s…the world where titans live, you know–the ones that fly around the skies?” She gestures, pointing her index finger to the sky and clouds above, before lowering her hand. Not to mention, she’s never had a situation where Mythra herself would be in unknown lands, all alone.
“…Who are you, anyway?”
“What? But how is that possible? I can understand not knowing of Alcamoth, as many believe the High Entia to be a myth, but the Bionis is our world! The Homs, the Nopon, the High Entia... We’ve been living upon its corpse for millenia! You don’t look like you’re from the Mechonis, either...”
At the mention of titans flying around in the sky, Melia looked up at the clouds for a moment, seeing nothing but a few Eryth Ansels flying overhead. Not to mention that the word “titans” implied there were multiple of these creatures... Just where was this woman from, exactly?
“Ah, my apologies.” The girl gives a respectful bow as she’s asked to introduce herself. “I am Melia Antiqua, princess of the High Entia people. I am delighted to make your acquaintance, Ms...?” She paused to give a chance for the girl to introduce herself.
@antiqca liked this for a one-liner.
✧ | “This is definitely not Alrest. Where am I…?”
“Alrest? I’ve heard of no such location on the Bionis. Currently, you stand in the city of Alcamoth, above the Bionis’ head. Pray tell, where exactly is ‘Alrest’? I could possibly escort you there, if you need.”

機 | “I see…that’s good.” Of course, he knew all too well what it was like to lose someone. However, a shocking revelation came within that silver faced Mechon. Fiora’s still alive. (At least, she looked like Fiora. But she didn’t recognise him, neither Reyn or her brother, Dunban.) Although it felt like he was being torn apart upon his childhood friend not responding back, he’s also relieved that she’s still alive.
“We’ll get her back. And we will find that faced Mechon that took the Emperor’s life too. We won’t let him get away with this.” Especially with the visions he’s received, there’s no way Shulk will let anyone else die on his watch. His blue eyes close briefly, before reopening once more with determination. “…I won’t allow it.”
Not when I know that I can change the future.
Shulk speaks with determination, but she can tell there is pain behind his words. It’s plain to see all over his face. The way he conducts himself. The pauses he takes in between sentences. But Melia wasn’t about to comment on that. She would prefer to focus on what will make Shulk feel better. More confident.
“I am certain we will. I have not traveled with you and your group for long, but I can tell it is a group destined for great things. Together, we shall forge our own destiny, and create a future we can all be proud of.”
“I shall see to it that I assist you in any way that I can. I trust in your abilities, as I hope you can come to trust in mine. We shall end the war between Bionis and Mechonis, one way or another.”
@antiqca liked this for a one-liner!
機 | “I’m alright–don’t worry. More importantly, how are you holding up, Melia?”
“I am quite alright, Shulk. I have shed my tears over what happened on Prison Island, and shall not shed another. However, I spoke with Reyn and Dunban, and they told me of the girl you saw in that faced Mechon. What she meant to you. I merely wish to make sure you are well in light of this revelation.”

“Can you, like, you know…” He put his hands up, at head’s level, and started flapping them around, a serious expression on his face. “Fly like the Nopons do with their little wings?”
It was a valid question, though not one she had expected to be asked so suddenly. “Some High Entia can, yes. But I am not one of them. Due to my half-Homs blood, my wings are too small to provide any sort of flight to me.”
“The best I can do is this.” She says as she begins to make her wings move and flap slightly. They do nothing to lift her off the ground, but at least she can move them.

‘ reyn told me i need to relax a little more . i think he might be right .. as much as i hate to admit it . ’
he says this as he lies down in the grass , arms resting behind his head and his eyes closed to avoid the suns bright rays . shulk has always been the type to throw himself into his work , and not notice that he’s holed himself up for two days without sleeping or going outside . he’s been slipping back into those habits more recently – old habits die hard , after all .
reyn’s little bit of advice came after he found the blond falling asleep over a piece of jewelry he’d told a resident of colony 9 he would fix after he finished his other projects . he’d said if he found him back in the lab after he woke up the next day , he’d find a way to seal the door shut . shulk opted to believe him , and once he woke up today , he found melia and decided they could spend the day relaxing .
except … maybe this is a pair of people who don’t really know how to relax all that well ?
‘ uh , anyway – i thought maybe you’d like to relax with me , too . you don’t do too much of that either , and i think it might be a nice change for the both of us . ’
“He has only your best interests at heart, I’m sure. Our journey brought much stress on us all, and Reyn was just the first to decide to do something about it. Not to mention that I’ve seen not hide nor hair of you recently. I’ve heard that you shut yourself up in your laboratory recently, studying and tinkering into all hours of the night.”
Melia gently sits down next to Shulk, though she does not lay on the grass like he does. She would love to, but she doesn’t want to risk staining her outfit too much. She looks up at the sky above them, shielding her eyes from the sun as she does so. It was quite the beautiful day, prime for a laid-back reprieve under the shade.
...However, Melia had never really had a chance to “relax” in her life. Being of such high social status will do that to a girl. So at the mention of relaxing together with Shulk, while by no means opposed to the idea, she finds herself at a loss as to what exactly to do.
“Ah, yes... Relaxing. I certainly do enjoy it.” She says, her delivery extremely stilted and awkward. “Do tell, Shulk. How do you relax in what free time is available to you?”
She’s totally not asking because she needs ideas.

“Ohhhh!! Melly already like Makna! Good, good!” Riki bounced excitedly at her agreement, though to be fair, when was he not jumping around full of energy? It was a very important quality of the heropon! Always ready to fight!
It took him a moment to settle down, but it would only be another before he was waddling off again towards the stairs. Frontier Village itself was packed with things to see and do. Had Melia seen all of those? Especially the kitchens, which were the most important part, aside from maybe Riki’s house.
“–Oh! First! Riki show Melly veeeeery special pollen orb factory! Riki can yoink pollen orb for Melly!” And Riki was dancing away down the wooden stairs, the planks wobbling underneath his little feet. Too late to stop him! “Makna next! But Melly must have pollen orb first!”
Riki’s excitability was part of why Melia enjoyed his company so much. No matter what the team was facing, he always seemed to have a smile on his face and boundless energy. She almost found herself wishing for the simple life of a Nopon at times.
Doing her best to keep up with him, Melia ran down the stairs to follow the bouncing ball of excitement that was making his way to the bottom of Frontier Village.
“Riki!” She shouted after the Nopon with a small laugh. “Slow down, I’m not as bouncy as you are!” After all, what would be the point of being guided across Makna Forest if she lost track of her guide?
Eventually, Riki finally stopped, and Melia managed to catch up with him. “You’re quite slippery when you want to be, Riki.” She said with another laugh before looking at what he had stopped in front of. “Is this the pollen orb factory, then?”
breaking-the-boundaries:
“Bionis is dead?! How do friends live on dead Titan?! Does it not sink below the cloud sea?!”
Eyes are wide in shock at this new information. Is it so big it can’t sink into the cloud sea? No wait… The other seemed so confused. Has some strange happened? She didn’t know what Alrest was… Nothing was matching up. The two had no idea what the other was talking about, so something was amiss in this.
Then, it’s best to move to introductions… Maybe they can move from there on what to do about this particular situation.
“Poppi is Poppi! That is the name Masterpon gave Poppi when Poppi was thought up of! Poppi is Artificial Blade, made to fight scary monsters and protect many! Though Poppi must ask why friend has pretty feathers.”
“I’m afraid I don’t know what the ‘cloud sea’ is. The Bionis stands atop a vast ocean, yes, but it is made of water, not cloud.”
Melia was growing more and more confused by the second. Nothing this girl said made sense to her, though it was clear that wherever she had come from, it was a world much different from hers.
As the other girl introduces herself, Melia just chuckles at herself a little bit. She should’ve assumed her name was Poppi, based on the way she spoke. Very reminiscent of Nopon speech patterns, which Melia attributed to the “Masterpon” Poppi kept mentioning.
At the mention of her ‘pretty feathers’, Melia reaches a hand up to touch the wings on her head briefly.
“Oh, are there not High Entia where you come from? All members of the High Entia race have these on their heads.”
breaking-the-boundaries:
“Bionis is living yes? Titans are big and everyone lives on different titans. Folks live here on this Bionis, so Bionis is a Titan!”
She’s trying her best to explain what Titans are like. Though it’s weird for people to live on the leg of a Titan. Shouldn’t it… Be moving more? It’s gotta stay afloat in the Cloud Sea… It’s so strange. Poppi can’t understand how this Titan works.
“Poppi not from Mechonis! Poppi was made in Gormott by Masterpon to be Masterpon’s blade. Gormott is Titan. Big and lots and lots of grass, big scary high level monsters… Like here.”
Though there is a noticeable lack of giant deadly blue birds… But there’s Tirkin here. She recognizes those.
“Living? Certainly not! The Bionis has been dead for millenia, after its battle with the Mechonis ended with the two slaying each other.”
Nothing this girl was saying made sense. Titan? Gormott? Blade? Clearly, she was not from around here, but that just raised the question... Where the heck WAS she from?
“I fear this may not be the ‘Alrest’ you are used to. There is no such place on the Bionis, nor have I heard of ‘Gormott’. As for where you are now, this area is known as Gaur Plain.”
“I believe introductions are in order before we work on getting your situation sorted out. I am Melia, and I live above the head of the Bionis in Alcamoth. What might I have the pleasure of calling you?”
