Ants escape! Hudson's first ant farm spilled all over the table. Luckily, we were able to get all the ants back into their new habitat. We learned ants must be chilled to slow down their movements before putting them into an ant farm.

As far as I could find any informations it seems to be like this: male ants (which are only born to reproduce and than be eaten by the ladies) do have two testicels and two deferent ducts in their abdomen, but they dont have a penis. It´s more like they let the sperm out through the abdomen as a drop and the female ant, which is almost always the queen, takes in the drop through her abdomen.

Little correction: The male ants dont get eaten after mating. However there are several reasons why the male ants die after the mating ceremony. First of all, male ants are born from unfertilized eggs, and are homozygous. There is thus, a small genetic disadvantage that male ants have. The lethal and sub-vital alleles (which are recessive) have higher chance of being expressed in them. This means they are born with a higher mortality rate. Some also die of hunger because their colony doesnt take care of them after they fulfilled their task. However, there are several ant species that act differently (army ants for example). Thats what I found out after some research. Canadian scientists double the size of ants in experiment
Canadian scientists have managed to double the size of experimental ants by unlocking the mystery of how an animal’s environment affects how big it grows. “It’s kind of making big news,” said Ehab Abouheif of McGill University’s evolutionary and developmental biology lab and co-author of a paper published Wednesday in Nature Communications. Abouheif and his fellow researchers, including McGill geneticist Moshe Syzf, started by looking at ant colonies and asking: Why are some ants of the same species big and other ones small?

Velvet Ant (Mutillidae)
Velvet Ants are a family of more than 3,000 species of wasps (despite the names) whose wingless females resemble large, hairy ants. Their common name velvet ant refers to their dense pile of hair which most often is bright scarlet or orange, but may also be black, white, silver, or gold. Black and white specimens are sometimes known as panda ants due to their hair coloration resembling that of the Chinese giant panda. Their bite is told to be awfully painful.
in lowland forests throughout costa rica, worker leaf cutter ants carry loads up to twelve times their own weight back to their subterranean nest where the leaf and flower fragments are then chewed up and fed to a fungus which in turn provides them with food.

These technicolor ants were created by Indian scientist Dr. Mohamed Babu, who fed them dyed sugar water. He was inspired to conduct this surprisingly pretty experiment after his wife noticed that some ants outside their home had turned white after drinking spilt milk.
Imagine if your body changed color every time you ate a bunch of something new. Would that make picking out clothes in the morning more or less difficult? Thank goodness we don’t have semi-transparent abdomen like these hungry little ants.

Scientists once performed an experiment on ants by attaching stilts to their legs in order to prove that ants return to their nests by counting their steps. The ants wearing the stilts overshot their nest by roughly 50% due to the increased length of their stride.
