For one of my classes, I am to write a "This I Believe" essay. After being detailed on the assignment, I spent several hours considering beliefs I hold highly. I developed this brief list.
That love comes in many forms and we should let it be if it is true.
The government has no business being involved in my business.
Writing is one of the most valuable skills one can possess.
That having one true friend is greater than having a hundred lesser friends.
In the power of a well-written and delivered speech.
That some people should simply never reproduce.
That you should always say "please" and "thank you."
That spirituality is more important than religious practice.
That everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but everyone should be able to back up the things they say and believe.
That being "politically correct" is offensive.
Your first marriage should be your only marriage.
In raising my children to be well-mannered, well-behaved, well-dressed and HILARIOUS. ;)
That laughter is the greatest coping mechanism for absolutely anything.
In traditional values that are molded to fit evolving times.
More time should be spent outdoors than indoors.
Thoughtful gifts are always better than store-bought spoils.
That relationships are the only thing that matter in this life.
In learning the value of a dollar.
That the best things never come easily.
In calling my grandparents once a week.
That our generation has the power to overcome racial tensions and hatred towards one's sexual orientation/preference.
That good hygiene and a good sense of humor can make a person 200% more attractive than anything else.
That you should put your phones up at the dinner table.
That pro-life is the only honorable view.
In standing up for what I believe in.
In respecting the views of others.
That Chick-fil-a heals the soul.
In a good cry (now and then).
That you should never go to sleep angry or upset.
In being honest with the people you love- even when it's hard.
In "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation."
That country music is the greatest.
That there is always someone who has it worse, but that our sufferings shouldn't be diminished no matter who/what.
That social media has the power to be a useful tool, but
People must learn discretion in using social media.
That quality is more important than quantity.
That anyone who works to provide for their families should be respected for that- no matter what the job.
That soldiers are heroes.
In choosing your attitude.
That some things aren't worth fighting over.
That you should always stick up for your family.
In the power of a good hug.
That cheating is wrong- in every sense of the word.
In second chances (not third and fourth chances).
That karma will take care of the vibes in the world; we can trust that things will work themselves out without our being the catalyst.
In a good cup of caffeine.
Anyways, you get the idea. Finally I settled on "Choosing Your Attitude." Perhaps I'll share the paper soon.
