Hey y’all! I’m so sorry for making you wait for the official fic for the Fake Dating AU, life has gotten in the way. The first chapter should be up in the next few days or so and will be around 1,000 words or more
In the meantime, here’s a small sneak peek:
A staggeringly poor test cushions the teacher’s head as he thumps it against his desk, his red marking pen clatters along with him. Jeez Louise this student hadn’t even tried and had answered a question with a crudely drawn phallus. He lets out a groan that ends up harmonising with the apartment door opening.
“Hey buddy-holy smokes!” Upon lifting his gaze Grace sees his roommate drained of colour. “Are you okay?”
Normally, when the door opens, Grace is greeted by rapid signing about Rocky’s day at work. Today however, he stands unresponsive by the door. The blond doesn’t even know if Rocky heard him for a moment until he shakes his head. He takes another step into the room, then another, Grace meets him halfway. As they meet Rocky desperately grabs Grace into a tight hug, he goes willingly with it and pats his friend’s back. The hug is long, another red flag to the teacher because Rocky’s hugs are always curt, and all he can think to do is hold his friend for as long as possible. Eventually they do separate and Grace’s heart breaks at the sight before him. Sluggish hand movements begin explaining.
Accident at work, statement. Twenty two in hospital.
A horrified look overtakes Grace’s face as he registers the signs. It wasn’t the safest job, being an engineer that deals with heavy machinery, but hospitalising so many in one day? He almost wants to tell his best, his only, friend to quit. Instead, he listens as a shaky sigh escapes said friend.
Low staff, statement. Rocky Adrian need work much overtime.
Okay, Grace definitely wants Rocky to quit. He knows he can’t make that choice though. Words fail him but the familiar awkward look on his features manages to bring the shorter roommate some semblance of comfort. Finally, Grace is able to tell Rocky that he’s glad he’s safe, that he’s alive, and guides him to the couch. They sit in silence with Rocky laying on Grace’s chest. It used to make the latter uncomfortable back when they first became friends in university, but after seeing his friend so distressed he caved. Since then, if either is upset, they lay like this. Adrian’s never had a problem with it, fully secure in their relationship and glad their partner has someone else to help him, Grace hadn’t been so lucky. His ex-girlfriend Linda was not as understanding, it had been explained to her early on but after seeing it happen a few months in, she decided that it was the last straw.
