How The Fuck Long Do I Go For?
Originally, We were going to go for two weeks, this seemed like an appropriate amount of time.  After all, the flight is in fact stupid long and it didn’t seem worth it for any shorter amount of time.  Most tours seemed to be a week and a half to two weeks so clearly this was the thing to do.  We however suck ass at planning.  We started trying to divide up the days and suddenly there was so much we wanted to do and two weeks wasn’t enough, what if we missed the experience, the one thing that made Japan so memorable?! Â
We clearly couldn’t have that we clearly needed more time in Japan so we decided on 16 days.  16 days seemed reasonable, It was a good number.  So off we went to look at airline tickets, and lo and behold for when we were looking to go we would be arriving back in the states on a Monday, and well no one wants to go back to work after flying that long so clearly we should extend our trip. Â
Suddenly airline tickets were purchased and our Japan trip including travel time will last from May 12 - May 31; cue panicking and internal screaming. 20 goddamn days. Â I am going to have to purchase way more yellow clothing.
I Named My Backpack Louis
that’s all.  He is very excited to go to Japan.  He is actually Louis the 3rd and Louis the 4th as Louis the 1st and Louis the 2nd had to go back to REI.  We watched leap year together.Â
Let’s Do This Shit
I am planning my first big trip,  I am going to leave the country, I am going to leave the continent, I am going to go to Japan.  I do not speak japanese (I’m trying to learn but jesus am I awful),  we decided not to hire a travel agent or go with a tour group, and I have no idea what I am doing.  I am anxious, I am a nerd, and I am going to maybe die abroad.
Neither I nor my forever person have ever left the country, I have barely left New England,  being more than an hour outside of Boston for any significant length of time fills me such dread that I spend hours unplugging things and tapping on locks (hey there OCD lookin’ good).  We are going to a foreign country,  we are flying 6,701 miles away from Boston, for 20 days and I think I may vomit.
