levi's face when petra's dad tells him she wanted to marry him without knowing she was already dead
The most devastating part of Levi and Petraโs relationship to me is that I donโt think romance had ever even crossed Leviโs mind until he heard from Petraโs dad that Petra wanted to marry him
I think the shock on his face is both from learning Petra nurtured those kind of feelings for him, and at the same time having his brain go through all of the possibilities that would have opened had he learned that before her death while have to stay strong and not let that show in front of her father
And granted, I donโt think Levi would have acted on it had he learned it before her death. I think he had made the conscious decision to not entertain those kind of feelings with how much death he experienced. But I think that decision was made easier because it never occurred to him someone might fall in love with him without him entertaining it
He assumed that being closed off meant he would never develop those feelings towards anyone and vice versa. But someone did. Without him even realizing it
He was already mourning her as a companion and comrade as it was, and all of a sudden heโs also mourning the what ifโs.
Katherine of Aragon & Isabel of Portugal
Holy Roman Empress Isabel of Portugal was interested in the case of the repudiation of her aunt the Queen of England, and she was an advocate of her cause. Katherine of Aragon knew that her nephew, Carlos V, was her only chance to defend her case successfully and that is why she wrote him. Since the death of King Fernando II of Aragon in 1516, her nephew had been her paterfamilias, the head of the Spanish Monarchy, and the most powerful monarch in Europe. Katherine played an active role as ambassadress in the Tudor court, and she was one of his biggest European supporters. Seven months after Katherineโs plead, Carlos sent a letter to his wife Isabel in Spain who was acting as his Governor during his absence. He entrusted her with a mission, to find evidence and witnesses that could help their aunt in her cause to defend her marriage.
The Empress rejoiced that her husband Carlos V was so determined to defend the right of Queen Katherine, which, indeed, it were his duty to do; not only because she was his aunt but also because the case closely concerns the Christian religion itself. Isabel sent several orders to different parts of the Iberian Peninsula to gather evidence. The first was directed to the officers in the Chancillerรญa in Aragon to look for any legal documents related to the marriage negotiations. Another order was sent to elaborate a list of people who were still alive and who had been witnesses in the negotiations concerning Katherineโs marriages. A second group of people were those who had accompanied Katherine to England in 1501. The third order included a questionnaire for these people that directly addressed Katherineโs virginity.
Katherine herself had written to her a full account of the case, of which copies were made to be sent to the Universities of Castile, Aragon, Valencia and Catalonia, with the orders of the Empress that the Universities are to study the case very carefully and send their opinions to her. Originals of the same shall be sent to the Emperor, and copies to Micer Mai in Rome.
In May 1531 a letter was rediscovered in Spain, written by Katherineโs father Fernando to his ambassador in Rome, Francisco de Rojas, which appeared to change everything. Katherine must have been excited to hear that it confirmed that Arthur had not consummated the marriage but that Rojas was to apply for a dispensation anyway in order to satisfy the English.
Empress Isabel was in contact with her ambassadors in Rome, France and London. Dr Pedro Ortiz, an expert in law and Lecturer at the University of Salamanca designated to defend Katherineโs case in the papal court, wrote to the Empress urging her to collect Katherine's letters as the future relics of a holy martyr. In another letter, Ortiz implored the Empress to pray for Katherine and Mary. He believed that they are in great danger.
The death of Katherine of Aragon on 7 January 1536 at Kimbolton Castle, was really sad for the Spanish Royal family. Carlos V was in Naples. By February 1, the Emperor wrote to his wife, who was acting as his regent in Spain, saying that he had heard of Katherineโs death โfive or six daysโ previously.ย He told her that he and his court had donned mourning and that suitable obsequies had been performed.
Five or six days ago the news of the demise of her most Serene Highness the queen of England arrived, which I felt deeply, as you may imagine. May God receive her in Paradise, which she certainty deserved on account of her extreme goodness and virtue, and the excellent life she led. About her last illness and death the accounts differ. Some say that it was produced by a painful affection of the stomach, which lasted upwards of 10 or 12 days; others that the distemper broke out all of a sudden after taking some draft, and there is a suspicion that there was in it that which in similar cases is administered. I do not choose to make such an affirmation, nor do I wish to have it repeated as coming from me, but nothing can prevent people from judging and commenting upon the event according to their own feelings. Of the Princess, my cousin, I hear only that she is inconsolable at the loss she has sustained, especially when she thinks of her fatherโs past behaviour towards herself, and of the little favor she can expect for the future. I trust, however, that God will have pity on her, and will not permit the great injustice which has been shewn her to remain with- out some reparation. I have put on mourning, and ordered all the grandees around me, the high officers of this household, as well as the gentlemen of my chamber and table, to do the same, and I myself intend wearing it until I go to Rome. The exequies have been performed here as is customary in such cases; there, where you are, the same ought to be done, as this is but fitting.
Isabel felt Katherineโs death and she was surprised โby what is said of her deathโ,ย the rumors about a possible poisoning of her aunt. The Empress also received a letter from Dr Ortiz, enclosing a copy of one from โthat glorious martyrโ Katherine herself โby which the Empress will see the perfection and heroic virtues to which she attainedโ. Katherine would be a โtrue patroness and advocate of the Empress in Heavenโ.

Queen Mary was laid to rest on 14 December 1558. In her last will, she requested to be buried with โthe virtuous Lady and my most dear and well-beloved mother of happy memory, Queen Katharineโ. Katharine of Aragon, dead for twenty-two years, had been buried as the Dowager Princess of Wales at Peterborough Cathedral, and Mary willed that her body should be transferred from thence to Westminster Abbey and โlaid near the place of my sepulchreโ. She further requested that her executors should see to it that โhonourable tombs or monumentsโ should be erected โfor a decent memory of usโ. This was not to happen.

Ryan Condal telling GRRM that they couldn't include Maelor because he didn't want another toddler on set is pretty ridiculous to me when you think about how they aged down all of the children and made them all toddlers. Jaehaerys and Jaehaera weren't toddlers in the book. Aegon and Viserys weren't toddlers in the book. He included 4 toddlers into the show for no reason and then he excluded the only character who was actually a toddler. Like what was the point of all that Ryan??
Following the deaths of her parents, brothers, uncles, and dragon in the Dance, and the victory of the blacks, Jaehaera was married to her cousin King Aegon III Targaryen as part of the peace agreement.
โso lucerys / jaehaerys / rhaenys died for nothing?โ
thatโs the point thatโs the point thatโs the entire fucking point - in the book as well!! there was never any POINT!! there is never going to be a winner here!!
rhaenyra will die, aegon will die, alicent and daemon and jace and aemond and helaena will die. for nothing. because the end of this will be a broken, traumatised, dead-inside eleven year old aegon iii on the iron throne with an eight year old jaehaera for a wife who commits suicide at the age of ten, two years after being forced to marry the broken king.
the dance of the dragons is a dragon eating its own tail. itโs all for nothing and no one wins.
As much as I absolutely love the funeral scene in 2x02, I can't help thinking about the fact something is missing. Aegon. The funeral was supposed to be Aegon and Helaena's moment, and the two of them alone, not yet another focus on Alicent.
Imagine Aegon and Helaena in front of Jaehaerys' pyre, with Jaehaera AND Maelor present. Helaena is broken with grief, as is Aegon, who nevertheless tries to show himself strong. Maelor cries, and Aegon lifts him up by taking him in his arms, eliciting even more sympathy from the people. Sunfyre and Dreamfyre stand before the pyre, and Aegon gives the command. Helaena turns her head not to look, clutching Jaehaera, and then lifting her face as she does in the episode. Aegon cries a tear, and then he leads his queen away.
HOW IMPACTFUL COULD THAT HAVE BEEN?
do NOT think about jaehaera targaryen that shit will kill you.
do NOT think about how this little girl saw her twin being murdered, saw her mother fall deeper and deeper into depression. how this little girl saw her father rage and drink and then burn and fall from the sky.
do NOT think about how she didnโt see him for so long while he was recovering. how she, maelor and aegon ran from kingโs landing, how scary that mustโve been.
do NOT think about how scared and alone jaehaera mustโve felt like the entire war. not knowing who in her family lived and who didnโt maybe it wouldโve been better not to know.
do NOT think about how jaehaera and aegon met up again in kingโs landing. how she probably didnโt recognize him. how she learned her brother and mother and uncles were dead.
do NOT think about how she mustโve felt like after aegon was poisoned. how her grandmother asked her to slit another childโs throat. do not think about her marriage. do not think about how she fell and what came after.
Never let team Black stans and Targ fanboys gaslight you to believe that house Hightower is an enemy of house Targaryen:
1) Before the conquest, Aegon and Visenya visited the Oldtown and spent time at the Citadel.
2) The Hightowers did not march to the Field of Fire, and surrendered without a fight.
3) Aegon's reign officially began in Oldtown after he was anointed and crowned by the High Septon (who was a Hightower) in the Starry Sept, and was celebrated by the people of the city as he rode over the city on Balerion.
4) House Hightower was one of the few houses that helped the Targaryens in the First Dornish War.
5) Aegon agreed to betroth his son Maegor to Ceryse Hightower when Ceryse's uncle suggested that Maegor should be wed to his niece, and look what F&B has to say about Maegor and Ceryse: "Maegor boasted to having consummated the marriage a dozen times the night of the wedding, and those who had seen the bedding agreed that Maegor was a lusty husband."
6) Maegor recognized Ceryse as the official Queen of Westeros, even though he had two more wives, and gave all of her lands and titles back to her.
7) When Rhaena Targaryen fled from Maegor, he sent a rider to Oldtown commanding Lord Hightower to behead Rhaella (who was training to become a Septa) as punishment for her mother's betrayal. Lord Hightower refused, and imprisoned the messenger instead.
8) Alicent fetched old Jaehaerys' meals, helped him wash and dress, and read to him. On her deathbed, she said: "I want to see my sons again, andย Helaena, my sweet girl. Oh... and Kingย Jaehaerys. I will read to him, as i did when i was little. He used to say i had a lovely voice." She didn't mention her father or her brothers, but she mentioned Jaehaerys. That shows how much she loved him.
9) Rhaena Targaryen (Daemon's daughter) married Garmund Hightower, and had six daughters by him. As one of the few remaining heirs to the iron throne and the sister of the King, she had no reason to marry a third son and have not one, not two, but six daughters by him if she didn't love him.
10) They remained loyal to the Targaryens during the Robert's Rebellion.
11) Unlike Jaime Lannister and Barristan Selmy, Gerold Hightower remained loyal to Rhaegar till his last breath. He refused several opportunities to leave unharmed, and eventually died while he was defending Rhaegar's son.
12) Daenaerys thinks house Hightower is among the houses that will help her take back the iron throne. She assumes correctly because the Hightowers believe in a prophecy that says Oldtown would burn and its monuments would be cast down if they opposed the "Blood of the Dragon." That's why they gave full support to neither side during the First Blackfyre Rebellion, keeping a foot in both Targaryen and Blackfyre camps.
tom saying โthis is something that has come from him. something that is pure, that is new, that is living, that is beautiful. this is something that he's proud of.โ when asked how aegon feels about his kids and cersei saying โi thought if i could make something so good, so pure, maybe i'm not a monsterโ about myrcella
โwhy would aegon want to marry the daughter of the man who killed his motherโ why would jaehaera want to marry the son of the man who organised the beheading of her twin brother whilst her and her mother were watching like we can do this all day
