ANYA TAYLOR-JOY Attending Coachella 2026 (11 April 2026)
Maddiep: Living in California is hard on this Vampire.
anyataylorjoy: I completely understand. I'm almost see-through, it's always hard times, lol. @.maddiep
Having a range to do dark stuff and then light stuff is an indication that you're a great actor. I've gone back and forth doing silly and then doing dark stuff. I've been back doing Law & Order so Elliot Stabler is kind of on the darker side of things. He has a heart though so I guess I do a little of both. Which kind of projects do you prefer?
Exactly, I think that range is what keeps acting exciting. Shifting between light and dark roles really does push you, and it’s such a satisfying challenge. It sounds like you’re finding that balance with Law & Order, Elliot Stabler is definitely intense, but having that heart makes him so much more layered. For me, I love roles that let me explore both sides too, something with emotional depth, but that can also surprise me with moments of humor or chaos. Honestly, it’s less about a specific type of project and more about the journey the character takes and the story they’re telling. That’s what really draws me in.
I'm doing the same thing and have been so busy that I can hardly tell if I'm coming or going but I needed to lock in and focus to let my head clear. Work is such a coping mechanism for many of us. If you're busy then you don't have time to dwell and think. Mine is flexible for the most part, other than these Beatle movies. Bit stuck in England but I love it here.
I completely get that. Sometimes you just need to hit pause and let your brain catch up, otherwise it’s like you’re running on autopilot. Work really can be a coping mechanism; it keeps you moving and gives your mind a place to focus. It sounds like you’ve found a nice balance, even if these Beatle movies have you anchored in England. Being stuck somewhere isn’t always a bad thing when you actually love being there, it makes the work feel a little sweeter, even if the schedule is intense. Just don’t forget to carve out little pockets for yourself too, even in the busiest stretches, it really helps keep your head clear.
That's how acting should be because if the roles doesn't push us then we don't grow in our art. My work is very flexible. I only take things I enjoy whether it's off broadway, movies or singing gigs. I used to work all the time becaue that's how Disney was but now I think about my health more and what I want to do.
Absolutely, I couldn’t agree more. Growth comes from being challenged, and the moment a role doesn’t push you, it feels… flat. I love that you’ve found a balance where you can follow projects that excite you, whether it’s stage, film, or music, it’s so important to stay inspired. And yes, taking care of yourself matters so much. Early on, it’s easy to get caught up in constantly working, like you did with Disney, but learning to prioritize your health and your own creative passions makes all the difference. It’s inspiring to see someone make that choice and still thrive in their art.
that's nice that you get a variety of work and your work isn't stereotyped to one character personality. I feel like a lot of us only get casted in the same movies. Either you're the playful one or the more mysterious!
Exactly! I totally get that, it can feel like once people see you a certain way, that’s all they want from you. I’ve been lucky to get to explore a few very different sides of myself on screen, but I know that’s not always the case for everyone. For me, it’s such a thrill to jump between personalities, one moment I’m playful, the next I’m darker or more mysterious. It keeps me on my toes and honestly makes me love acting even more, because there’s always something new to discover about the character…and about yourself along the way.
I’ve been working on a few things that I’m genuinely excited about. I'm exploring roles that push me into new emotional territory while still letting me have fun with the characters. There’s a project in post‑production that’s darker and a bit mysterious, and another that’s totally different and more playful. I can’t wait for people to see them later this year.
