“It’s photoshopped” honestly in the age of AI that has a homey sort of nostalgia to it. Remember when people used to put effort into faking things?
Chuck Jones is the best counterexample to “the curtains are just blue” because you would not believe the amount of thought and art theory he put into his silly little cartoons
I need to dig out my Chuck Jones books but one time he was talking about the Wile E Coyote gag where he runs off a cliff and continues running for a little bit before noticing there’s no ground underneath him and then turns to the camera and holds up a sign saying “Help!” before plummeting and Jones said the reason Coyote does that instead of immediately trying to get back to the cliff edge is bc Coyote embodies anxiety and in that particular moment represents the fear and worry about the judgement of others over and above the desire for self-preservation.
Like, if someone was told that interpretation without knowing any better they’d think it came from some pretentious academic or whatever but nope! It’s literally the creator like those are the thoughts he had in his head when he was creating the cartoons
the Nine Rules of the Roadrunner cartoons always sticks with me. Rule 3 especially

your month, your puppy!
Aw, how sweet, they have seating for your pet Pokemon, with little steppies for the teeny ones! How adorable! It's so lovely that this city is so considerate of Pokemon!
I wonder how well they treat the homele-
oh.
Anthony Enzor-DeMeo, CEO of Mozilla, announced that AI will be added to Firefox. Public outcry prompted Enzor-DeMeo, and then Jake Archibald
Additionally, here are some interesting comments from a Mozilla employee who's been working on these features:
No, you should definitely keep calling it a kill switch. It helps describe my feelings on the matter.
I would also accept ai throttle. Not because I want to use levels of activity between fully on and fully off, but because I want to throttle the ai with my bare hands.
okay this makes me feel a lot better

I am shocked at how many people don't have an actively hostile relationship with advertising
I am skipping your ads as fast as I can. I'm skipping past your sponsor read. I'm muting the tv. I'm muting the tab. If they get too annoying I will simply stop trying to watch.
If advertisers can use every manipulative trick in the book to get me to buy their product, I am fully within my rights to do everything I can on my end to make their job impossible
In today's linguistics class we talked about metaphors, and we really want two of the ones we talked about to become conventionalised.
So first of all this one girl told us about a newer metaphor in Russian, "I have paws", which is something you say when you don't really want to do something, so you say you're incapable of doing it since you have paws instead of hands. Like, "hey, finish that report" "aw but I have paws :(" and I think that's adorable. It's like "I'm just a girl" but for animals.
We also had the task to invent a novel metaphor and have the others guess what it means, and the teacher really liked my "she's such a capybara" = "everyone loves her". Capybara energy is like golden retriever energy except you're chill about it. You're just vibing and everyone digs that.
Anyway I think these deserve to become more common in English
VERY important addition oh my gosh,,,

Trump is appointing three washed-up actors as "ambassador to Hollywood" in order to bring back the "Golden Age of Hollywood". Which has historical precedent: there was an ambassador to Hollywood in the Golden Age, too. His name was Georg Gyssling and he was sent by Hitler to monitor the activities of Hollywood studios. To make sure their films didn't say anything anti-Nazi, resulting in many attempts at anti-fascist films being shut down by the Hays Code. Just a fun historical Hollywood fact there
@renthony is this so? i know you know a lot about this topic.
Yep, very much so. I don't want to totally take over OP's post, but Gyssling has his own Wikipedia page. Joseph Breen, the American head censor in the Hays Office, was also infamously antisemitic. Breen and the Hays office personally shut down Herman Mankiewicz's attempt to make an anti-Hitler film titled The Mad Dog of Europe, because Breen put massive priority on "not offending Germany."
(For those who haven't heard: news broke yesterday [Jan. 16, 2025] that Trump has named Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, and Jon Voight as "special ambassadors" to Hollywood. As someone who studies the Hays Code & censorship in general, it's been a weird 24 hours of remembering just how important my work actually is. Variety's article on the subject is here.)
does anyone know if you can get in trouble for feeling weird
Depends. Are you catholic?
