I’m glad Tumblr has a generally activist mindset when it comes to mental illnesses, but I’m honestly so tired of the mentality that mental illnesses are truly comparable to physical disabilities. As someone with both I promise you there is absolutely no way to measure them against one another. They impact my life so differently and my physical illness, believe it or not, has actually been the cusp of more ableist bullshit than all of my mental illnesses combined over the course of my entire life. And a good deal of that is from you people here on Tumblr.

I once received hate mail from a bunch of people because I made a point about a comic being about physical pain since the artist was disabled, and people were telling me they knew what it was like because their mental illnesses put them in pain, made them tired, and their antidepressants doubled as painkillers and I should apologize and feel bad and stuff. Like yes depression makes you tired and achey but you have literally no idea what the extent of chronic fatigue and chronic pain for a chronically ill person feels like. NO IDEA. To feel like there’s battery acid running through your veins instead of blood, then to be told you’re overreacting and you should suck it up and continue doing your every day shit even though you’re literally disabled and on disability? People DO actually treat physical illnesses just as shitty as mental ones, shockingly enough. 

I’m just exhausted of seeing posts that say “one of the worst forms of ableism I’ve seen” then follow up with something about mental illness because my friend you live a very sheltered life if that’s the worst form of ableism you’ve seen. Like I really hate to say it but it gets a lot worse.
