Now available: the book version of "anyone who has become"!
Writing "anyone who has become" in 2017 for the Grace and Frankie fandom changed me as a person. It was a gateway into so many new and life-changing experiences; some of my dearest friends are people I met through that fanfic, and it brought my now-wife and I together. Writing it also made me a braver, more vulnerable, and more open person. Without that fic, I wouldn't have the life I do today.
It's never sat well with me that I've let awhb sit there for so long on AO3, unfinished. But what I didn't realize, until the last couple of years, was that I was meant to finish it in a different way. To tell the story—to tell all of it—with a clarity and honesty that's only possible because I started this journey in the first place.
In 2017, I was never exactly sure what awhb's title meant, only that I knew it was right. In 2026, I've finally figured it out: the "anyone" is the shifting, amorphous, nomadic story itself. I am so, so proud of who it's become.
The Second Draft is out in the world today. Here's the blurb:
No one has ever melted uptight Anne Lowell’s icy exterior, not even the husband of thirty years she just divorced. Still, she has her dazzling best friend and neighbor, Sadie Rosenthal, to brighten her days, so she’s content. Really, she is. But when Anne realizes that her feelings for warm-hearted Sadie might be more than just friendship, she’s no longer able to ignore the shattering truth she’s spent a lifetime repressing. Anne’s choice is clear. She can keep her rigid existence, or she can find the courage to begin a daunting journey with Sadie—one that just might help them both find true happiness.
And if you decide to pick up a copy, I hope you feel the same way I do: that what began nine years ago is now, finally, complete.
Hey hey hey hey, if you remember the Grace and Frankie salad days, you remember that "anyone who has become" was THE fic. The one that defined the fandom. It's beyond incredible that Ellydash has transformed it into a novel of such power and beauty that it eclipses even the original story.
