as a louis-lover who doesn't even ride for lestat like that, it really kills me to see so many people (reactors) misunderstanding gabistat. we are now at episode 6 and i just saw someone nod in agreement when lestat said he "conducts the chaos," right after he threw up, had a panic attack, and all but admitted to louis that his r/s with gabriella was already inappropriate when they were human, but sure, he's conducting the chaos. people are so keen to look away from it, and i can only assume it's because they subconsciously believe he can't be her victim. it's always "well, lestat said it's okay" and "i guess things are different for vampires because they're monsters." brother in christ, you are watching the vampirism-as-an-exploration-of-humanity show, where vampires are clearly condemned for doing bad things and lie about their trauma all the time and viewers are asked to question the narrator constantly. we are not talking about whether incest is acceptable in a fictional world, we are talking about a mother preying on her vulnerable son, which would be bad even if his name were lestat de fucking targaryen. it can't be vampire loneliness, because the wound scene in e2 and the bed scene in e4 happened while gabistat were 1) human and 2) still well within their human lifespans. it can't be that turning into a vampire magically makes you okay with incest, because louis was disgusted. "but the maker-fledgling bondā" is not inherently romantic. so where does that leave us? i think what saddens me the most is that, of all things, the writers are not vague about this. there were so many moments in e2 alone that made it excruciatingly clear that lestat did not want this (never mind that it's never a matter of want). but he's a man, he's a vampire, he's a monster, he's her maker, he's easy, he's confident, he's lonely, and so he must have asked for it, etc. etc. etc.
