Milwaukee: This is what DJs look like. Recognize the gender genre color sexual preference elitism & segregation that is thick in our city. Whether you know it or are blissfully unaware it’s perpetuated in our line ups over and over again. Fuck elitism. Fuck tokenism. Fuck misunderstanding safe space. Our music is not only for everyone, but it came from the people that are now too often over looked. As more step up to produce events in our city, I encourage you to look hard at the demographics you’re booking. I’ve done it, been unaware. It’s ok to fuck up, but recognize, and adjust. These djs have toured the world, played stadiums, empowered their piers, taught our youth, pushed emerging artists, spread local music, polished their skills to be some of the baddest, and uplifted their communities - right here in our own back yards. And there’s more like them. Brown, black, yellow, white, queer, straight, male, female, in between, not sure, house, hip hop, techno, turntablism, turn up, OGs to new blood - Recognize a real G when you see one. Dig deeper, do better, honor the true culture of dj driven music. Because to do anything else is not only missing the point, but missing out. So honored to have hosted this panel of truly amazing djs/artists/people yesterday - @djnustylez @djboyfrrriend @djbizzon @djloopmke @czboogie @djabilities you are inspirational.
