Top Apartment Amenities To Look For in 2021
As the world is finally entering into a new year (finally!), you yourself may be entering into a new phase of your life as well. This could mean, buying a new car, starting a family, or maybe moving out on your own for the first time!
If you are anything like I was, chances are you may have a vague idea of what its like to actually live on your own. All you may be thinking is, “I finally get a place to myself, that I can decorate how I want!” While that is very much true, there is also a lot that comes with moving out for the first time on your own.
While there are many things to look out for like budgeting, cooking and renters insurance (seriously, its a thing!), the first major decision you’ll have to make is where you’ll be moving to.
Apartments are great if you are just starting out on your own, as there is little maintenance you'll have to do yourself but its important you find a place that you will enjoy living at with amenities you’ll actually use.
So for my first blog post of the year, I’m going to go over some apartment amenities you may want to consider when choosing your next apartment.
Residents are no longer satisfied with a utility room with a few barbells passing as a gym. Tenants today want the whole enchilada: treadmills, exercise bikes, yoga-friendly spaces, and even optional workout classes. This will not only help you save money on gym memberships, it will also motivate you to work out more! The gym in my apartment building has peloton bikes and treadmills, so look for cool exercise equipment like these to help step up your gym game.
With the boom in online shopping, package thief is at an all time high. According to a recent survey, there is anywhere to 1.5 million packages delivered in New York alone. With a record number of packages being shipped daily, you want to make sure yours are safe by the time you get home. Look for an apartment that offers storage lockers to keep your packages safe while you’re away!
People love pets, its a common fact. And because people love pets, they want them to live with them. If you are or are planning to be one of these people, you should look to see if your future apartment is pet friendly! Pet friendly apartments are becoming more and more popular so it may not be too hard to find one in your desired location. Make sure you talk with your easing agent before to ensure complete understanding of the buildings pet policies.
4. Granite/Stainless Steel Kitchen
Renters paying thousands of dollars a month should have a kitchen that reflects the price tag. Not only will granite and stainless steel really dress up a kitchen, it also makes you feel more motivated to cook too! Find an apartment building with updated appliances to really feel like you’re getting your monies worth each month!
You cant expect to sit inside your house all day everyday. At some point, you may want to have friends and family over to view your new apartment and instead of cramming into a tiny apartment, take them to the pool! Pools are a great way to get outside and socialize! Look to see if your prospect apartment complex offers pools and a fun clubhouse to host parties in!
When it comes to iconic apartment amenities, look no further than the roof top deck. This feature not only allows for gorgeous views but can double as an amazing space for entertaining guests. The rooftop can be home to a pool, lounge chairs, a fire pit and maybe even some comfortable chairs! Definitely not a make or break for apartment living but every little perk counts!
When winter rolls around, you may not want to be outside hanging by the pool (unless the pool is heated!) so it may be a good idea to look for an apartment building that has a game room to hang out in. This space could include a pool table, some comfy couches to lounge in, or maybe even a foosball table! Again, this amenity isn’t a make or break but it is an extra perk that may help you decide if you are between two buildings.
It’s no surprise that younger generations are becoming more and more conscious of their carbon footprint. If you have an electric car, look to see if your desired apartment offers this feature!
9. In-Unit Washer & Dryer
Gone are the days where we want to lug our laundry down flights of stairs and fight over open dryers. When it comes to apartment amenities, I personally consider this feature one of the most important. Most newer apartments offer their residents in unit washer and dryers for convenience. If you were to try to narrow down your search for apartments, I would strongly suggest you start with this feature since there are so many amazing benefits. Keep in mind, depending on how your utilities re set up, you will be paying for electricity and water used by doing laundry. If this is an extra fee you do not wish to budget for, then look for an apartment with a community laundry center.
Having smart home features are the wave of the future. Look for an apartment that offers updated appliance features like smart thermostats which will allow you to save money on heating and air bills because it allows you to control the temperature remotely. Another cool feature is smart locks and light switches, which will offer an eco-friendly spin to your apartment living!
While there are many other factors that go into renting the perfect apartment, looking for amenities that suite your lifestyle are just, if not more, important! You’ll be living in the apartment you chose for at least a year, so make sure you pick one that you enjoy!
