i am utterly fascinated with mack's quotes from this article where he insists he can handle losing and that “I know kind of how to let it go" (okay bud!) but mostly whatever this is:

oh, that's the message you got from a lot of teams you've been on? can't do everyone's jobs for them, you just have to do your job and the team will be better if everyone just focuses on their own jobs? is that the messaging multiple teams have had to give you, macklin celebrini, specifically?

"at the end of the day, it's the right thing to do." it's soo hard to sit back and not do everyone's jobs for them. as an 18-year-old rookie in the NHL. because your teammates suck so bad. everyone has to keep reminding you this is a team sport, a five-man-unit, and if you do too much it ruins everyone else's job. that's the takeaway here. not that it's defensively irresponsible, or that you can't possibly be successful playing one-on-five hockey. no, the message you've internalized from a lot of teams you've been on, that apparently the sharks have also had to remind you because it's the only thing that gets through your thick skull, is that you're going to ruin everyone else's job if you do too much so please, mack, for the love of god just stay in your lane.
