this is the krangers’ revenge for not winning the 2027 memorial cup bid

hilarious ohl lore going on here where a) guelph and kitchener were finalists to host the '27 memorial cup, b) guelph got awarded despite kitchener likely being in a better place to field a contending team in 2027, c) kitchener, feeling snubbed and salty, went "fuck it, ill do it myself," and d) actually fuckin did it themselves. like they kept to their word and won the memorial cup. what the fuck

they were middling in november and losing to erie and shit and they weren't going to get the mem and then eddy showed up, all 5'8 of him with his big block head and his skates like the wind and then reid went off to wjc and brought back peanut with him and then ando came back for one last dance and then wolf and chiarot and then they beat windsor 7-2 with two gordies and three fights and then they rolled saginaw and handled the soo and wolf pulled that boy out of the crease by the scruff like he was just a kitten and then liam greentree did his best but the spits couldn't make anything happen, least of all on the power play, and then the colts were down two men and kash did everything, fucking everything, but it still wasn't enough for them, the torrent, relentless and ice calm and healthier as they went on because ellinas came back and ferocious and hungry and blood bonded, and remember that time they let sarnia beat them at the last minute, and remember letting in three goals on three shots to brantford, and remember ando getting suspended his first game back, and remember chromiak and headrick and xu and the little pack of sleeman wolves and late nights driving up from london in the snow and the flies stuck in the trap in the stairwell that goes all the way up. those flies are memorial cup champions now. they won everything. they did.

I really do not think the average person understands how different the training resources and access are for a cis man playing sports vs everyone else. I wrote an article last month about how until 2020 they were given the Swedish women’s national hockey team expired protein bars for tournaments and only five practices leading up to it. More often than not people who aren’t cis able bodied men playing a sport do not have equipment properly fitted to them. Women’s teams do just straight up get less court or field or ice time. Coaches and trainers will refuse to train you on certain things because they just assume you cannot do something.

Idk. We have seen the athletic accomplishments of cis men come very far in the past century as they got more specialized training and the sports industry as a whole grew. Yet People still really think physical advancements and progression can only be done by cis men, and the the upper limit of what’s been recorded by everyone else is this permanent, unmovable thing. For a long time people thought it was impossible for a woman to do a triple axel until it happened.
