the more I have to fight with landlords, housing laws, housing courts, housing lawyers, and basically every single other structure involved in non-ownership housing the more immutably certain I am that the concept of long-term leases - which ostensibly exist to prevent your landlord from kicking you out on a whim - actually exists to almost exclusively protect the landlord while actively fucking you over as much as possible

I spent about 2 or 3 years on a fun little haha historical AU game set in 1810s England (basically Bridgerton but with slightly more historical accuracy) and once you do that you can never go back from the mortifying understanding that about 75% of our modern society is entirely based on shit a handful of clueless rich white dudes thought would be kinda neat 200 years ago and the other 25% is because the Romans decided church was a good idea and that this is not even slightly an exaggeration
