Arthur: Let the pain fall on me and no one else.
Merlin: Let it fall on everyone in this damned world, as long as no harm ever reaches you.
I just thought of this theory so now I’m going to inflict it on all of you because I am no longer well after thinking this:
Magic existed in Albion long before Merlin and Arthur, et cetera, did. And based on canon - the books, the tales, even the geography and beings - magic used to be massive in Albion. A huge part of life and nature and living. Then Arthur is born and Ygraine dies and the Purge begins. Magic is killed off, reduced and nearly wiped out; thousands of species go extinct, entire cultures are burnt, and hundreds of millennia of knowledge are erased. So as a last resort to save itself, Merlin is born.
Merlin - Emrys - Magic Itself/Incarnate.
All of this desperate power is out there and channelled into one single being. Think of it, all the land's magic rushing into a single entity and given life, evolved from having existence in everything to truly living and experiencing a concentrated point. Maybe this is why Merlin has such a deep connection with everything, because he has existed before as something so much greater than the human mind.
I think this is why he is Emrys, why Emrys is immortal, you can't kill Magic, Albion's world doesn't work that way. There is the balance of life to maintain.
This is where Arthur and the Prophecy of the Once and Future King come in: Merlin and Arthur are greatly connected. It's Arthur's birth that forces Merlin into creation and it's together that they are meant to bring greatness to the land.
Except they don't, Albion's 'Golden Era' doesn't come. Arthur dies and Merlin continues living because Magic cannot die. Centuries pass, Merlin is missing his other half and Magic continues to disappear because Merlin and Arthur didn't save it.
So there is a build up, Magic keeps going to Merlin to protect itself, Albion ages and falls and is rebuilt over and over again into something new with each passing century. As time progresses Magic turns to its greatest source - the undying force of magic, the greatest concentration of it given life - and because of this the land slowly forgets that it even had magic to begin with.
This is what forces Albion's Greatest Need. The balance cannot handle this, the land cannot handle this and so Arthur returns to save it all.
He is Merlin's other half - their destinies are literally written and entwined with one another.
They would figure out that Magic had disappeared from the land and that it was why Arthur was back, but it would be Merlin to realise where Magic had gone to and what it would take for it to be brought back.
Merlin would have to die for Albion to be saved. His life would have to end and return to its previous state of unconscious sentient existence.
But how can someone that cannot die stop living?
It's easy really: have their other half of their soul - the one that they were born for, who they live for and exist for - kill their physical body with an immortal blade.
Only Arthur wielding the Excalibur would work. After all, Arthur was the reason that Merlin was born, so who's to say that Arthur's not the reason Merlin dies?
considering how old this fandom is and how often merlin is referred to as the son of the earth in so many fics, this has probably been said but imma say it again.
merlin who is magic incarnate, the embodiment of the force that is nature. he is life, he is death, he is water, he is fire, he is earth, he is air, he is violence, he is mercy, he is nature, he is magic. he is the son of the earth, of the wind, of the sea, and of the flames.
his mother, a mortal woman who toils in the fields, her hands worn and rough from decades of physical labor, where dirt lives under her nails. a woman who is well-built, who has grown large muscles from multiple trips from the well and the creek back to her garden where she pours the glistening water onto the earth to water the crops, to nourish them and help them flourish. someone who grows food for her village, who grows herbs for healing as she learned from gaius, who houses and feeds those who come knocking on her door begging for aid. life, creation, and mercy.
his father, a dragonlord who embodies the soul of the great beasts who rule the skies, a soul that hoards dragonfire to keep him alive, to give him power, to make him more than others. a man who is a tiny speck in comparison to the giant creatures but whose voice commands them, who makes them kneel before him with a single utterance. a man who rides on the back of such vicious creatures, who rules those which rule the skies, a man who is king of the beasts of the sky. someone who rides or commands the dragons in war, to burn, to ravage, to destroy that which is in their way. someone who has grown bitter over the years and was prepared to let a dragon burn and ravage yet another city, a citadel full of innocents. death, destruction, and violence.
his mother who embodies the earth and water, the sources of life, and his father who embodies the sky and fire, elements which bring death and destruction, bringing merlin, magic incarnate, to the world. the embodiment of his parents, of life and death, of earth and water, of fire and air, of magic and mortal.
Arthur: Good morning everyone, I'm glad you came to this meeting because I have an announcement to make.
Merlin positions himself smiling behind his king's chair.
Arthur: I have decided to revoke the law that prohibits magic!
Counselors: What! But that's ridiculous!
Merlin stares at the counselors.
Arthur: I know it will be difficult to accept, but *begins to give a speech about empathy and humanity*
Merlin turning into a demon behind Arthur to keep the counselors silent while the king speaks.
Merlin's stare - "Just agree with him."
Arthur: Understood? *hopeful*
Counselors *trembling*: Y-Yes, sir...
Merlin growls 👹
Counselors: YES MY LORD!
Arthur *radiant smile*: Great!
Merlin purrs 🥰
my first offering to the merlin fandom, good god i'm so obsessed. look at what i've done to my boy.
AO3 and Tumblr can never go down for maintenance at the same time because there would be no one to watch their children (us, the users) and there’s too many of us to hire a babysitter
non-writers will never understand the mental illness of writing an entire conversation in your head while doing dishes and then forgetting every word the second you open a blank doc

Hahaha so true! But as The Emissary, it was amazing, watching my Aunts and Uncles ascend. Like watching cartoons but in real life! Apples eyes were all big and huge and, "My Aunts and Uncles are the COOLEST!!!"
Hi I was today years old when I realized that NOSHIR IS ON TUMBLR???
…I loved the Emissary. You said so little but every word had so much weight. I loved the balance between wisdom and childlike innocence, solemn and happy ❤️
So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????
I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.
Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?
Saw a sharp increase in my follower count after posting this. The legitimacy of it is driving me nuts so I also feel the need to say that you can follow anyone on here regardless of whether you’ve interacted with them or not. People like the above mentioned blog are exceptions. Perhaps they themselves think they aren’t and therefore will act like they aren’t, but they are, trust me.
Just follow anyone you wanna follow. The worst thing that can happen is maybe getting soft-blocked by the other person, but if they do soft-block you, then they were never that worth following in the first place.
wow. really hope this isn't actually a norm taking hold with new users! this isn't facebook, you don't need to know people before following them
this is the '10 year mutuals you've never spoken to once' site
So, I really love the selection of Tim Walz for VP and it’s taken me a moment to articulate why. I mean, obviously, Dem bonafides, he’s sharp, he’s funny, etc etc. But everyone in the Veepstakes fits that bill, Harris was spoiled for good choices.
But Walz offers something that the other men in contention don’t that I think will be incredibly useful in combating Trumpism.
He offers an example and an off ramp to the section of men who felt like they were Republicans by default, and so support Trump by default. There are a lot of Trump voters who are full on obsessive, but that’s not who we’re talking to. We’re talking to folks who grew up in Republican areas, or felt their hobbies didn’t line up with who a Democrat was, or didn’t feel represented by their image of a Democrat. You want to see it so you can be it, you know? Which is why Harris is so inspirational to a lot of segments of folks, but Walz is too.
He served in the military. He went to a state college. He’s your favorite teacher from your public high school. He’s your football coach who actually cared if you were passing your math class. He’s the guy you looked up to at school when your family sucked but this guy cared, and he helped you get out and make something of yourself.
He’s the neighbor who helps you jump your car. He’s your uncle who takes you hunting. He’s your Dad who loves teasing you at the Stare Fair. He’s you when he makes a mistake like his DUI and takes responsibility for it, and when he has the chance makes sure other can come back from similar mistakes. He’s you when you and your wife want so badly to be parents and IVF gives you the family you wanted. He’s you when he says ‘it had to be me’ and used his standing and power to protect vulnerable kids sponsoring the GSA at his school.
He gives the real life example to these men that they can be that football, fishing, hunting family man who wants to provide for his family, be that powerful, respected member of the community and use that power to feed kids in school. That it’s normal to enthusiastically work for a boss like Harris. That yeah those other guys are fucking weirdos, and you’re not a weirdo, are you?
That there’s a place in the Democratic Party for them. That they don’t have to default to being fucking weird.
I hope those guys see this example of masculinity and go… yeah, that’s me. That’s who I’m gonna be.
How a self-described “old white guy” can help many Americans reimagine themselves
President Biden's plan for the first 100 days of his next term:
—Restore Roe v. Wade
—Sign John Lewis Voting Rights Act
—Expand Social Security and Medicare
—End all medical debt
—Raise the minimum wage
—Pass the PRO Act for workers
—Ban assault weapons
—Lead the world on clean energy
—Permanent child tax credit
—$35 insulin cap for all
—Build more housing
—Invest in child care and elder care
you want that? FIGHT! for it, check if you're registered to vote and then find a way to volunteer, everyone can make a difference everyone!
Also for those of you saying “why doesn’t he do it now”, he doesn’t have a Blue Congress. If he gets a blue Congress, he can pass these, but if either the house or senate stays red, no progress can get made. Vote.
its really something that the media is clearly more upset about Joe Biden being old and putting in a bad debate night than they were when a court declared Donald Trump a Rapist. Like MUCH more upset, idk I feel like in a healthy society someone being a rapist should exile them from normal society and disqualify them from being President
Welcome to the US, where one of the presidential candidates has done so many bad things over the past four years, let alone the rest of his long life, that we’ve become desensitized to it all.
It’s ridiculous that even Trump has publically disagreed with some of these points (like a complete ban on abortions) and yet…
I'm seeing a lot of the same arguments and thoughts about this election as we had in 2016. I don't want to see that repeated. Neither do you. So we have to come together and vote in record numbers. We defeated MAGA once. We have to do it again.
Save Democracy. Vote Democrat: President, Senate, and House 2024.
One thing the analysts back in 2012 were right about is that they’d stop calling it “Obamacare” the second it started working and lo and behold anytime it was actually threatened under Trump it became The ACA and now Leftists who were in Kindergarten when the ACA was passed think Democrats have added nothing to this country.
I don't think a lot of people remember pre-existing conditions. Like it was a thing for a long time where my mom fought to try to avoid having my brother diagnosed with asthma because she didn't want him tagged with pre-existing condition. I wasn't officially diagnosed with autism or depression or anything because my parents didn't want to me to have a pre-existing condition when I became an adult that could prevent me from having insurance. Insurance companies could flat out refuse to pay for treatment if you had a pre-existing condition that could have caused the issue you were wanting them to pay for. That's not a thing anymore. My diagnosis of lupus isn't going to affect my ability to find insurance or use it to pay for lupus-related care if I change insurance.
Remember that bit from Parks and Rec? Yeah, that's kind of like what it was like. That was back in 2012. The ACA made it so that:
1. No insurance plan can reject you, charge you more, or refuse to pay for essential health benefits for any condition you had before your coverage started. This means that if you get diagnosed with cancer, insurance companies can't refuse to cover you. It means that if you have asthma, insurance companies can't refuse to pay for inhalers because you had it before you signed on with them.
2. Once you’re enrolled, the plan can’t deny you coverage or raise your rates based only on your health. This means that when I was diagnosed with lupus, my insurance couldn't kick me off or make me pay more.
3. Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) also can't refuse to cover you or charge you more because of your pre-existing condition. This is actually a big one, because it meant that the only coverage some people could afford wasn't able to kick you off, refuse to cover you, or charge you more because of something like a heart murmur you had at birth. That was a real concern for us when my oldest was born. They had a heart murmur and we were terrified we would never get insurance coverage for them.
Those were real things that really happened to millions of Americans. They would get diagnosed with cancer and get kicked of their insurance. They would have a semi high blood pressure reading one time and have a heart attack 10 years later and the insurance would refuse to pay for any of it.
Obamacare killed that. And the GOP fought like hell against it. Can you imagine everyone whose ever had COVID not being covered at all under insurance? Or being charged 3 or 4 times more? Or being charged 3 times more and still not having coverage for anything that might stem from COVID? Because that's where we would be without the ACA.
They could also reject you for: smoking, having used drugs, being in a "high risk" group (which was disproportionately used to screw over POC, especially Black people), having a FAMILY HISTORY of disorders/diseases. They could basically find a way to reject you, and it could be anything their HMO asses could dream up. It was terrifying, because not only were you one disaster away from bankruptcy with medical costs, you were also one diagnosis away, one bad habit away, from being denied insurance which is basically a death sentence.
