Farse and satire sir. It's okay if you missed the point though man, getting people to kiss the point was the point. It's been a while since I thought about this though, perhaps one of my most potent brain shits.
Mandatory guns is an argument to turn both sides of the gun debates on its head for a reexamining, and to point out how half assed everything is, and how impotent especially the calloused ignorant, apathetic mind is to changing or seeing the other side. It's to hopefully preponder pondering about the people you wouldn't actually want to have guns and be proficient with them, such as children and a possible mass of would-be enemies.
It takes the thrust of the pro gun argument and turns it around on itself like ju jitsu so that it can finally lose by winning, and paradoxically the gun restriction argument as well. Imagine needing a license or doctors pass NOT to have a gun for example, for state over reach and the like.
It's supposed to demonstrate the horror of the state and the people unifying into a single entity, as there is no such thing and never should be. That every time a gun is shot, justice is administered, no matter how indiscriminate or untrue, because of its finality, lack of decency and humanity, and lack of due process - another right that's not talked about much. It takes us to a premodern form but with modern means to shed mass blood on a whim, for those untrained in law or literature, or philosophy or science, or anything else humane.
It's a fun thought experiment though. For a sense of irony, livid and inspired, I doned the wolf clothing and I wrote 87 of the 100 senators with such a suggestion, the only time I ever did such a thing in a decade of writing. I've seen what activism does though, it only distracts and subverts from the actual cause in exactly such a manner. I regret contemplating bad ideas to demonstrate how bad they are, only to see people not get it; to acknowledge without realizing it that amendments to the constitution can in fact be amended.
The argument was to hopefully make even gun supporters shutter, especially at those that would agree, and then hopefully make those that would agree to shudder at themselves too. But times have changed a bit, and now there are more people that think this sort of thing would be reasonable and sensible and actually solve what ever problems are in their minds. And this the culture wars were lost as the millennial era peaked, and bad state and corporate actors, and a horde of people that didn't know any better took over the internet. Happiness might not be a warm gun, but I often joke that the solution to every problem is a gun to demonstrate and prove the absurdism in it. It's usually nervous laughter in response with a hint of fear because the ugly truth is known: that humans are predators, and his faculties of reason, of uncultivated, are useless over his gut.
I once had a drunk disabled Vietnam vet scoff at the idea in conversation, because of everyone had guns, then blacks and criminals would have guns too. Oh really! This exposing the racism and the classism which is apparently also an inalienable right to speak (ie not get jailed or shot for it by the power of the state). As it often turns out they don't have such a right, as it's the first thing the police yell or think they see before they shoot, something which also happens to whites frequently but no one talks about, at least not anymore. I've got a bad feeling no one's really going to talk about police brutality or unarmed police killings for a while anymore after Floyd. This country can't handle it's racial legacy.
It was Republican governor of California, Ronald Reagan which instituted the first modern concealed carry laws, for the sake of the openly carrying Black Panthers which - in those days this was possible to do -marched into the state house with automatics, or something to that effect. A little history, and then a little more history, will teach you things outside of our little temporal bubble.
The idea is, if we can't be reasonable and responsible enough to not pose a barely veiled hostility and simmering mortal threat to ourselves and our neighbors at all times, and thus become the surveilers of each other - like they did in Nazi Germany and Stazi Germany alike - every citizen a secret policman and informant, then maybe we don't deserve safety, the rule of law, or rights anyway. And everything the forefathers gave us with their minds, and everything the soldiers died for was all for naught, and the US would be fully transformed into its final and monstrous orouborus form. These days we pay and sign up for the cellphone services that spy on us for them.
Go in peace, and read like hell until you find your mind changed in some way about something. Find your humanity and then give it away. Then shudder and tremble in the face of history and all the dead faces of the giants, past and future, we will account to for our actions, thoughts, and our hearts.
I've given up and will leave the country one day, hopefully sooner than later. I wish I could go back and tell my ancestors we wouldn't belong here, the whole place doesn't belong here. There's no point in trying to preserve the US or the union anymore, it's a lost cause. Human folly is too great a force in history and there will come a time when it reaches critical mass, as it always does and always will. Better to cut the cultural red states loose so they can be free to their tried and true anachronisms and fatal fates. Heaven could only hope. One thing coming to a narrowing truth though, this place is doomed.
