i’m looking for a fic and i haven’t been able to find it on ao3 yet. its xiao/zhongli. set right after perilous trail arc, bottom xiao, they have a dom/sub sex thing going on. basically zhongli thinks xiao tried to kill himself on purpose and gets upset and is like let me leave this situation before i say something i don’t mean and xiao being xiao trys to? or maybe he doesn’t idk explain his side. but anyways they separate for a while. xiao sits in the rain and is emo bc he thinks zhongli hates him and basically has abandoned him. zhongli meets lumine she basically corrects the misunderstanding and he finds xiao. they fuck but zhongli makes xiao tell him exactly what happened in the chasm while he fucks him

Sometimes when i mention i like zhongxiao people are like “but doesnt that have a massive power imbalance” and its like well yes. You see i am here primarily for the power imbalance. I don’t want them in a conventional mutual romantic relationship i want to sentence Xiao to 20 rounds of Pearl Steven Universe flavor hopeless gay devotion

One of the biggest appeals of shipping Xiao with anyone in my book is delving into how him being category 7 level weapongender would impact his relationships. Like here’s a guy abusively conditioned to deeply internalize the idea he’s nothing but a tool/weapon who exists to be wielded/suffer on the behalf of other people. He is also ultimately a gentle soul and has a deeper capacity for care and affection than he would ever let himself believe bc doing so would require him to acknowledge he’s a person.

I think in any sort of deep interpersonal relationship Xiao is very devoted and protective and wants to come to the person he cares about’s aid no matter what (look how he is with Traveler) and this is so fun to think about because it’s not hard to imagine Xiao’s devotion being a blurring of coming from both his genuine kindhearted nature n desire to protect others as a result and his dehumanizing + self destructive view of himself as a weapon to be wielded until it breaks

This can be fun in really any Xiao ship but like…think about how much of a problem this would be with him & Zhongli in particular. Adding any romantically charged flavoring to the god/follower “you are the deity I serve and have pledged eternal loyalty to bc I feel indebted to you for showing me kindness” thing he has with Zhongli is soooo messy. Zhongli is able to mess with/fluster Xiao in a way literally no other character really does in canon specifically because of the deep respect Xiao has for him in particular that Zhongli is fully aware of. It could be such a problem. Everyone likes familial Zhongli/Xiao but I’ve never seen an interpretation of said hc that comes close to doing more for me than the idea of “but what if Zhongli wanted to crack Xiao open like a crab for fun”. What if it was do it for him/her Steven Universe. I cannot resist the neuron activation this invokes in me

Like i think Xiao would heavily subscribe to the “if you live for someone you’re prepared to to die” grindset in any situation where watching Zhongli mow down the God of Dreams and go “um well sure I don’t mind being your boss if you want to pledge loyalty to me” activated forbidden gay emotions within him that he then proceeded to experience catholic guilt over for the next 5,000 years
