Maedhros- three flavors
Welcome to my Maglor vent post. Today I am going to address some things I come across in fanfiction often, that I find personally grinding, tiring, or irksome in no particular order.
1. When Maedhros and Maglor appear together in a story or drabble (usually as secondary or minor characters, like in a flashback or memory of Elrond's) and all or most of Maglor's redeeming or interesting qualities are given to Maedhros thus making Maglor feel flat and lifeless in comparison.
2. When Maglor is found on the beach in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, whatever age, and BOTH of his PALMS are burned to the point that his hands are rendered completely unusable. If you want to go down the perfectly reasonable route of "Maglor was burned by the silmaril" (even though I personally, and perhaps unpopularly, do not follow this particular interpretation) why would someone pick up a jewel -that's small enough for Beren to completely enclose in his hand, mind you- with BOTH PALMS simultaneously? It gets me every time, man.
3. Similarly, when Maglor is found in later ages still wearing clothes from the first age, despite being 'worn and threadbare to the point of being nearly unrecognizable'. Like, either he's gotten new clothes since the first age, or hes naked as the day he was born. Because at that point, how are his clothes even still useable? Unless hes been patching the shit out of them, I guess... in which case that should be mentioned in the description.
4. On a similar note to number 1- when Maedhros is the 'mom-brother' and Maglor is the reclusive, antisocial musician who has no idea how to properly empathize with, control, understand, mediate, or care for his own younger brothers, or even complete strangers, and has to rely on Maedhros to help him deal with them responsibly or diplomatically. As number 3 in a family of 7 children myself, I just have a hard time understanding this characterization. Hes a prince, and a spare, and a leader himself. He should have some level of social competence.
5. Maglor as a pure, uwu soft boi who can do no wrong. No. Recognize Maglor's BAMF status and Kinslayer classification 2k20. By all means, save and redeem him to your heart's content, please, but the boy is still a proud Feanorian, and an equally stabby-stabby-babby
Those are just some of the things that bother me when I read fanfiction about or including Maglor. There are others. But dont get me wrong, there's no hate here! By all means, write maglor however you want, you dont need my approval and I'm honestly just glad to have Maglor-centric stuff to read. I just wanted to vent a bit.

I love your Fingon so much!-@outofangband
Aw, Thanks!
Heās always been one of my personal favorites.
āItās hammer timeā -Rog, at some point, probably
Could you maybe do Rog? I feel like he dosent get enough appreciation. Thank you! And your art is amazing OwO
I'll give it a shot, sure! I'm actually guilty of forgetting he even existed until you brought him up... lol. He will be loved.
FINGON + one minute background xp
oohh YOU LOVE MAGLOR!! YES! you should do Maglor too!!
I do love him! and Iām working on him. Problem is, I just cant seem to get his design right. But I am trying! (mostly itās his hair, because all my drawings suffer from a bad case of same face... Iām big enough to admit it. learning is hard)
Fingon!?
Ooh... good idea!
Someone, please help me, but there was a version in which Elrond remains with Elrond for a short amount of time after his hands burn while Elros goes with the Men?Ā
I know it exists I just donāt know where to find it.Ā
I found on Wikipedia a quote from an original draft of the Quenta Silmarillion from 1930. Maybe this is what you're thinking of?
"Yet not all the Eldaliƫ were willing to forsake the Hither Lands... and among these were Maglor, as has been told; and with him for a while was Elrond Halfelven, who chose, as was granted him, to be among the Elf-children; but Elros his brother chose to abide with Men."

Been a hot minute since I uploaded last, so hereās a quick Galadriel doodle.
Maglor makes bone flutes out of his dead family members
Celegorm's has the largest range, imitating birdsong perfectly, but also managing a low, howling sound
Caranthir's has the lowest pitch and a breathier, aggressive sound
Curufin's makes a high pitched, tinny sound that leaves the ears ringing for hours after it's played
The twins both sound similarly beautiful but ever so slightly off pitch unless played together
Fingon's has the richest, fullest sound and certain notes even manage to sound like his actual voice
Finrod's (I dont know how he managed to nab a piece of finrod, but he did) has a warm, clear sound which honestly works the best for actual perfomance. It's also the only one he has left at the end of the second age.
He's never played the one he made from Celebrimbor
He played Elros' once and then smashed it to pieces. It sounded hollow and lifeless.
TFW you want desperately to talk about Maglor, but everybody you know who likes the Silm/Tolkien writes him off as lame, weak, or an unimportant pushover.
