Tree Climbing
In reading articles, reviews and eyewitness reports, the first US tour of '68 ("the tour that broke the band") has been of special interest to me. And although they were tired and there was obvious friction, I've found lots of evidence of them hanging out together sharing good times and cokes and... climbing trees?
Here's a review from one of the last dates of the tour, Oakdale june 15th, where they played two shows:
This review paints a picture of three rather aloof virtuosos, brilliant, but paying little attention to each other or the audience. Also they eat hotdogs and... climb trees?
[Sidenote: The article states that neither Jack or Eric bother to stay around and listen to Ginger's solo. But the article also includes a photo of Eric ("the leader" lol) watching the solo, and I've also found a photo of Jack watching the solo from the edge of the stage:]
...But back to the tree-climbing! This is one of the last shows of the tour and they supposedly can't stand each other, so the image of them climbing trees is oddly endearing. And now I've found a very informative eyewitness report that elaborates on it!
POINTS OF DELIGHT: 1. Jack and Ginger hanging out in the woods without any signs of violence and 2. Eric Clapton, known as the world's greatest guitarist at the time, just... sitting in a tree, minding his own business!
Eric looking all pretty and ladylike sans moustache but still with the post-perm locks (first photo is from Oakdale, second photo one day later)
Jan. 26, 1967: Cream dressed in prison uniforms on Top of The Pops. What song did they play?- I Feel Free of course!

smiling phases ~ Traffic [x]
Do yourself a favour Wake up to your mind Life is what you make it You see but still you’re blind Get yourself together Give before you take You’re flying down the highway Soon you’re gonna break Smiling phases, showing traces Even when they bust you Keep on smiling through and through You’ll be amazed at the gaze on their faces as they sentence you
