sometimes it's important to injure the character
you know what trope drives me absolutely feral? Repetition. Just :
"Hey, hey, it's okay"
"Shh, you're safe, you're safe, it's alright "
"Look at me. Hey, look at me"
"Stay with me. Come on, just stay with me"
"It's over. It's over now."
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry"
"I'm here. I'm right here"
Ilya + comforting Shane
"i know it hurts, whumpee. i know. i'm so sorry, just breathe through it, it'll be over soon."
Character A zoning out with a worried look on their face, stressing out and going quiet and Character B tilting their head to look at them with a soft smile and voice saying 'hey, where'd you go?' that's it that's the whole post I need a minute
A character held up with one arm draped over another's shoulders but otherwise totally unable to support themself so that their lolling head is leaning against their supporting companion's collarbone and their face is pressed into the side of their neck.
Fisk betrays everyone! He will turn on you!
Charlie Cox said that during one take of this long one-shot fight scene, he saw an opportunity to get some fake blood into his mouth and took it. That’s where the blood on the wall came from. But it almost ruined the take because the actor who threw him against the wall wasn’t expecting it and thought he’d really hurt Charlie for a second. Fortunately he didn’t break character (or wasn’t on screen) and the take ended up being the one that they used.
I love how many stories there are about Charlie being so committed to the scene that it freaks out the people he works with.
Favorite whump trope? Fainting. Eyes going blank and glassy, fluttering and rolling back into their skull as their legs shake and quiver, turning to jelly and buckling, everything feeling too light too fast as hands go scrambling searching for something, anything, to hold to as the world fades away, train of thought crumbling as they wonder why their head feels so funny. Voices crying out panicked and yelling as arms fly out to catch them, and knees bend down to cradle them, worried faces barking orders and rushing about as they tenderly stroke and reassure, fear leeching through the room as the clock ticks.
shout out to "i need to sit down" btw. shout out to the whumpees who cannot catch their breath, whether panic or dread or pain or exhaustion keeps them heaving and gasping for air, who whisper "i can't" as they slump to the floor. shout out to whumpees only held up by teammates, trying their best to look strong, but reaching a point where all they can say is "down, please, let me down--". do you see the vision
Whumpees writhing on the ground when they’ve been wounded. Arching their back with a groan as the pain forces them to take shallow breaths. Their legs kicking and sliding on the floor as they try desperately to escape the agony assaulting them.
Restraint and Control.
-> Struggling until completely devoid of energy — then going limp.
-> Restraints that are technically for safety.
-> Whumpee continues testing the cuffs with extreme stubborness before realizing they won’t budge... A deep sadness settles in their eyes.
-> Caretaker having to restrain them — and hating every moment of it.
-> Being sedated while crying/begging.
-> Being pinned down during treatment. Whether it's by Whumper or Caretaker... doesn't matter... It'll give them nightmares for sure.
-> “This will hurt” said gently, firmly... also doesn't matter.
-> Strapped tight, flinching before they’re even touched.
-> Being held down while begging them to stop.
-> Restraints left on longer than necessary, friction adds to the agony of the situation.
"oh my god," caretaker breathes, cupping whumpee's cheek. tears spring into their eyes and they pull whumpee close against them. "are you alright?"
whumpee sniffles and wipes their nose with their sleeve. "i'm fine." they push back and smile weakly. they wipe caretaker's tears with the pad of their thumb, "hey, i'm fine."
touch starvation
too scared to ask for affection
testing the waters with “casual” brushes
“please, don’t go…”
meeting a naturally physically affectionate person and being thrown for a loop
freezing up when receiving physical affection and not knowing how to react
being uncomfortable when they do receive affection
seeking out hobbies associated with physical contact (dancing, wrestling, …)
watching someone hug and feeling envy
taking long, hot showers to simulate touch
hugging self in bed to self soothe
trying to replace human affection with animal companions
learning to ask for hugs and cuddles
once they feel comfortable with it, they become insatiable for touch
(is also sometimes called “skin hunger” and i just think that’s sick)
(Whumpuary 2026, Day 29: Touch Starved)
bruises from whumpee being manhandled that show on their hips when their shirt rides up. yayyy
Hold your whumpees down.
Chain them, tie them, catch their clothing or a body part on something in a way they can't get free on their own.
Have your whumper pin them with their entire bodyweight.
Have multiple whumpers hold their limbs and lock their arm around their head. Hold them tight 'til they tire themselves out and the fight leaves their body.
Do they keep begging? Do they face it head-on with stoicism? Do they spit and bite and snarl? Or do they go blank and resign to the fact that there's no escaping this?
"Were you hurt?"
"I'm fine."
"I'll rephrase. Where are you hurt?"
“it’s rotten work” not to me. not if it’s The Character.
