Soooo fucking obsessed with the dynamic between a tired weapon of mass destruction and his weirdly intimate handler who genuinely wants the best for him but doesn't actually have enough power to free him, so they just do their best to try and look after him within the framework they have to operate in.

Grabbing him by the back of his neck and looking in his eyes, drilling an order because they know if he disobeys, he will get into trouble. Helping him hide his mistakes. Snapping at him and calming immediately when he flinches. Acting to others like they don't see him as more than an assignment but also not letting a single person fuck with him for no reason. Not being in a position where going easy on him is an option, so being intense and overbearing in this case is the only way they can look after him.

Guy who never feels like his problems are “bad enough” to be taken seriously: what if I hurt the character so horrifically that everyone around them could not possibly deny the severity of their pain even if the character themself tries to downplay it.

okay so i was inspired by those scar reveal fics where two characters hook up and as they take their clothes off the other sees their scars for the first time and it turns into like an angry body worship+angsty trauma reveal situation. and so that but like… they’re actively bleeding

whumpee characterizations ? and what it takes to break them

thief whumpee: silver-tongued/ can't keep still/ uses humor as a coping mechanism-> gagged/ stress positions/ a casual whumper whose indifference immobilizes whumpee

royal whumpee: stoic/ proud/ seeks revenge after their imprisonment-> forced to kneel/ public humiliation, dragged around like a trophy, collared, branded etc/ enough scars to look like a constellation on their skin

healer whumpee: kind/ keeps up an image for the sake of others/ skilled in their trade-> pushed to the edge/ others have to take care of them/ hands or fingers so badly damaged they'll never be able to help anyone else again

innocent whumpee: naive/ trusting/ hopeful-> "no one is coming for you"/ left to die/ a whumper who twists whumpee's anger against their friends

bitter whumpee: apathetic/ shrugs off what they've been through/ exhausted-> "I'm fine." followed by collapsing/ vivid flashbacks where they wake up screaming/ refuses to fall asleep after their ordeal

leader whumpee: independent to the point of isolation/ tries to protect everyone/ mentally well-adjusted (mostly)-> set up to fail/ forced to hurt their teammates/ they come back changed, and everyone avoids them

villain whumpee: defiant/ insults whumper every chance they get/ so many failed escape attempts-> non-con drugging, left a shadow of their past selves/ conditioned to obey/ kneeling next to whumper at a press conferences

Whumper owning trained dogs and living weapons and treating them the exact same. They sleep in crates next to each other, wear the same collars, have the same commands, even eat the same foods. Some of the weapons don't even know how to speak and have adopted bark and growl-like noises for communication. Whumper sharpening weapon's teeth once weapon begins biting enemies they same way the dogs do.

Whumper sits down and has a dog resting its head on his thigh for pets, and soon weapon begins to mirror it. Whumper pets weapon's head the exact same way he would for the dogs, and the weapon's eyes close with bliss. "Good boy."

A reformed villain character that was severely hurt by the team before joining them suddenly flinching when one playfully punches their arm.

Cue the confusion, worry, maybe even anger from the team about their lingering hesitance to trust the team members. Not to mention their own guilt at their show of weakness.

Hiiiiii I’m new here and already in love with your stuff. This one may be too specific but I love it: whumpee trying to stand up to whumper to defend caretaker but just collapsing.

“Ngh— No! Don’t… Don’t touch them!”

stumbling, barely able to stand, but eyes full of determination and hate

“No, take… take me.”

begging caretaker to run and leave them behind before passing out

“Back the fuck off. You don’t… You don’t get them too!”

resisting with pure adrenaline fueled rage and collapsing in the middle of a sentence

WHUMPER

“Are you sure you want to do this, Whumpee? Couldn’t even defend yourself against me, and… Ah, there you go. Weak, as always.”

eyes lighting up with delight when whumpee resists… and even more so when they collapse

“Aw, poor thing. Brave and pathetic as expected.”

cirling the two of them slowly, while caretaker moves with them to stay in between whumper and whumpee

“This is your big saviour, Caretaker? Bit embarrassing, isn’t it?”

watching caretaker try to frantically wake whumpee in amusement

“You have a choice here, Caretaker. You can either suffer the same fate as Whumpee, or just hand them over.”

crouching beside them and reaching out to caress whumpee’s face, until caretaker yanks their body away

CARETAKER

“No, stay down— Whumpee!”

pressing lips to whumpee’s head and whispering “You’re such an idiot” in a fondly worried tone

“Stay back! Don’t touch them!”

catching whumpee’s limp body and cradeling them while glaring at whumper

Team Member with the ability to dream walk keeps being asked by team members to help them with their nightmares, and the team member happily obliges. They want to help the team, they want to make things easier for everyone else. But soon, the dream walker is burnt out and exhausted, and plagued by the nightmares they took from their friends.

Once the team realizes, they will do everything to try and help the dream walker to make it better… but no one can do for the dream walker what they did for the team.

Whumper scolds whumpee when they almost hurt themselves, and Whumpee feels almost something warm in their chest, something like care… until whumper clarifies that a broken leg or arm would impede whumpee‘s beauty and usefulness

Living weapon archetype I never see (probably because it’s really niche, I assume):

Living weapon that was made for its job. There’s no life before it was a weapon, theres no memories to repress. It was created with the sole intent that it will be a weapon. It’s only human enough - physically and otherwise - to be able to be used alongside other humans.

But then what happens when it gets taken from that? How does a thing become a person when it knows it was never meant to be one, just to emulate one? Many thoughts

Living Weapon Whumpee (who never got to be human) learning to be human

At first, trying to emulate humanity. It's a skill, right? So it will just watch other people and perfectly emulate their behaviors! Whumpee becomes a mess of mismatched rules, behaviors, habits, until one day, someone tells them the hard truth: there is no one way to be human, except to literally be yourself.

Caretaker(s) get caught up in the philosophy of it: What is it to be human? Anyone can learn the rules, but how does one authentically be human?

Whumpee being taught to feel, place, and handle emotions. At first this leads to many outbursts (which might get very dangerous for Caretaker), until whumpee gets the hang of it

Whumpee begins to miss being with Whumper sometimes. Caretaker realises, that is the most human thing of all: nostalgia. longing. desires. wishes. So they build off this: what does whumpee miss? How can that be incorporated? What (back then) did they not like? What does whumpee want?

From there, Whumpee sloooowly begins to develop wants and needs and gets more independent day by day.

Eventually, Caretaker feels the same type of bittersweet emotion a parent feels when their kid moves out. Whumpee is recovering and the next step is to leave Caretaker‘s nest… Caretaker is proud and a tad anxious, but once they see how Whumpee thrives, it is all worth it. (Unless, of course, Whumpee relapses and Caretaker is not there to help.)

“You turned them into a… a thing! That… That’s not even whumpee anymore! How could you?”

“I saved them.”

“But at what cost? Their life? Their body? Their free will? You didn’t save them, you just preserved the meatsuit of their body to make yourself feel better!”

Water deprivation merfolk whump.

Are they suffocating out of water? Or just uncomfortably dry? Perhaps they're pinned to the ground by gravity, unaccustomed to their own weight. Perhaps they try to crawl in search of water, scraping up their elbows, belly and underside of their tail as they drag themselves across dry ground.

!!! Also consider: all fish have a thin slime layer protects them from sun damage. Should merfolk have a comparable slime layer on their scales it would make them even more vulnerable to heatstroke and sun damage if it were scraped off in the process. If they make it back into the water it also makes them more vulnerable to parasites.

But now imagine, a well meaning human/land being stumbling across the struggling merfolk and trying to help out by dragging them to a nearby body of water! Only... the merfolk is from a saltwater colony, and once they are dumped into freshwater they will nonetheless slowly weaken and succumb to the wrong environment!

Merman Whump

When his men tell him that they caught something real special, the captain didn't expect to come out and find a merman in the nets, winding and hissing. His gills flare, his skin is irritated where the rope cuts and his eyes are narrowed, surely not used to the amount of light flooding in.

They lower him onto deck, where he flails and once again hisses in the net. The captain watches as his crew jumps on him, forces his wrists down and binds them together, then jams a gag in the merman's mouth.

Only once the merman is restrained do they pull the net off and the captain kneels. "Sorry about this," he murmurs as he catches the merman's chin. "But a living merman is worth a lot back at shore."

The merman hisses again and snaps at him with razor-sharp teeth that tear through the cloth gag easily. The captain barely pulls his hand away in time and surges forward, his fingers digging into the other's jaw.

"But all your scales, claws, teeth, bones and hair are worth just as much without a beating heart." The merman stares with pure hatred in his eyes. The captain slowly lets go... and this time the merman stays still. "See? Not that hard to behave."

He stands and nods at his men. "Fill up a tub with water and head back to shore. They'll tear each other apart for him at an auction."

He doesn't watch as the long creature is dragged into the belly of the ship, accompanied by grunts and curses by his men. He smiles. He is about to be rich.
