Y’all ever think of how sexy the term “fever-stricken” is? It’s like, I don’t even need a character to have other symptoms (granted it’s always nice-) but just… give them a fever of either known or unknown origins and it’s great 👌

the absolute devastating intimacy of a forehead rest. when you are both just so tired from existing in a world that demands you to be a rigid, functional individual, and you finally collapse into each other and just lean your forehead against theirs, or against their shoulder. it’s the physical equivalent of dropping your shields. it’s saying i am entirely heavy right now, and i am trusting you to bear a piece of that weight. and the most beautiful part is that the other person doesn’t even flinch. they just adjust their stance, tuck you a little closer, and absorb the impact. we were designed to divide the burden of being alive.
give it up for voice breaks everyone. round of applause for shaky whimpers, pained cries, distressed whining, keening in the back of the throat, that moment when a character tries so hard to keep talking but their voice cracks into a fluttery, weak little plea for help
Whumpee who finally can let go. They’ve been in so much pain; physical and emotional, and Caretaker finally allows them to let go. They’re sick with stress, fever leaving them bedridden for now, lowering inhibitions. When Caretaker treads carefully into the room, they see Whumpee glance up at them, shuffling to sit up and look a little more presentable. But Caretaker gently shakes their head, pushing them down with a softly spoken reassurance. And that does it. The simple act of someone taking Whumpee as who they are, of loving them as who they are, breaks them. They bury their face in the pillows and sob, their whole body shivering and trembling with emotion and exhaustion. Caretaker just gently traces patterns on their arm, letting them know they’re here, they’re safe now. It’s okay and it will continue to be okay.
I wanna talk abt whumpees without caretakers (at least at the beginning of the story). Whumpees who patch themselves up after fights and take care of themselves when they’re sick. Maybe they are part of a team, but their teammates see injury/ illness as weak. So if they feel the slightest twinge of a cold, or their body aches the wrong way, they immediately retreat to their room and don’t come out till they feel better.
Let’s say whumpee leaves that team for whatever reason and joins another team who actually cares. They get sick or injured and try to hide away, but a strong hand on their shoulder says otherwise. They’re brought to the medbay, where they receive medicine, bandages if necessary, and care. Maybe they start crying, maybe they refuse help until they’re actively falling apart. But they're not alone.
i love the phrase 'i dont go here but...' like you're so in awe of my work you have decided to trespass into a fandom you dont belong to just to appreciate it. i love everyone who doesn't go here
Stoic Whumpee's internal struggle between wanting comfort, needing help, and wanting to need no one at all. Because they always went through everything alone - support wasn't an option. Now that it is, they're afraid. Of being hurt but, deeper down, they're afraid of losing the strength they found in isolation. As if once they learn what kindness is like and let themselves feel that warmth, they won't be able to let go of it. That once they let themselves be vulnerable, they will unravel and never be able to go back.
love the idea of whumpees getting deeply possessive over a completely mundane item in their cell

if they can’t have ownership over their own body, they’ll sure as hell try to have it over their singular pillow #mypillow
Sheriff Country s01e10: "Travis's blood pressure is dropping. He needs a hospital, not a first aid kit."

"Show me."
"Really, it's not that bad. We don't have to stop. I can keep going, I—"
"Show me."
a friendly reminder that even a light fever, a few hours of missed meals, or even a little bit of dehydration can become a huge problem with the right kind of physical activity. if you want to make your kind-of-sick whumpee pass out from exhaustion, have them carry heavy things for a bit. like groceries, or laundry, or cleaning that requires them to move through the house a lot. you don't need a serious problem to make serious symptoms :)
Today's Prompt Is...
"I'm going to take care of you, okay?"
I love it when Whumpee is leaning on things. They're dizzy, nauseous, in too much pain to stand, or just plain tired, and they can't get by without some kind of support.
Leaning on cabinets and against walls in people's houses. Propping their head up with their hands at the dining table. Steadying themself against a banister on the stairs. Holding on to the post of the traffic light for dear life while they wait to cross the road because if they stand still unsupported they will fall to the ground.
It's such a small display of I am not feeling good, but once another character notices it becomes so obvious. This person is weak and vulnerable. Either I can help them, or I can hurt them further. It's not like they're in any position to stop me.

"hey, are you alright? you look a little pale." caretaker puts a hand on whumpee's shoulder.
"i'm- i don't know." whumpee's words melt together as they lean heavily on caretaker. "i feel like i might need to sit-" they fall completely against caretaker and then quickly slide to the floor, "sit down."
When a character with some sort of medical background is dangerously sick or injured, and they're definitely not in any state to treat themself but on autopilot they start listing out their symptoms in clinical language. Like they can't help but fall back on the familiar routine instead of processing the implications
Bonus if they're struggling to get the words out between gasps of pain/laboured breathing, or better yet mumbling because they're out of it
People in the notes have started talking about the whumpee walking another character through helping them, and don't get me wrong, that's good too. But this post specifically is about when they're not well enough to register and handle the situation like that. I'm picturing loss of control, not taking control. When they aren't willing or able to deal with the full frightening implications so they desperately grasp for something they know and land on cataloguing symptoms.
Like, Whumpee half-delirious with fever keeps trying to sit up while rattling off their symptoms, and Caretaker is pushing them back into bed for the nth time saying I know, we've got it, please relax. Whumpee in shock is gasping out jargon about the type and severity of their injury while Caretaker is begging them to just tell me what to DO about it! That kind of thing.
Whump Prompt #1783

The whumpee (somehow in some situation) mistakes caretaker for whumper and freaks out 😋 Delicious angst.
