A leader character usually so calm and composed that when they don’t hold back a cry of pain other characters lose their sense of reality. They were not scared before, knowing their leader was in control as always, but now they are chilled to the bone.

Hey so I know we All Know This but I will NEVER be over a character being feverish and delirious and making No sense. I will never be over a glittery-eyed, shivering, distressed character weakly gripping another's arm and asking them questions they don't know the answer to, and probably don't mean anything at all. I will never be over characters calling out for people either long gone or right next to them, but unrecognizable in their delirium. I will never be over a character crying in frustration and fear over something in their head they can't explain to whoever is helping them, and all they can do in return is stroke their hair and shush them gently.

A very cool and strong and ccapable character is forced to be vulnerable due to injury/sickness/likewise harm. Like, they are unwell so much that they can not do the things they normally can and it really fucks them up mentally. wouldn't that be cool to watch/read?? i think it is a cool idea.

Royalverse prompt: INJURED FREY!!! They got hurt protecting Winter, and not the ignorable, self-manageable kind of hurt they're used to taking care of themself. Now it's up to the rest of the team to dress their wounds and keep them awake long enough to check for delirium. Maybe also whump Winter with a bit of guilt over what happened?

Okay, so, this one turned out to be a favorite of mine. I hope you enjoy:

"Arms up, knight," Cor hisses in their ear, and for once, Frey doesn't fight back.

They're on their knees, now, back against the tree, heaving breaths jostling the arrow in their side--they're so stupid, how could they be so dumb--but when Cor wrestles their chestplate off, all they manage is a weak whine of pain.

"Minnow, my bag--"

"What do you need?"

"Sedative. Third pouch from the left, vial next to the grey crystal."

"Here."

Frey tries to track the movement, but there's blood streaming over their eyebrow and into their vision and they can't wipe it away because of the agony in their side. Something hovers under their nose and they flinch backwards, making a noise of protest.

"Stop, it's okay," and that's Winter. Gloved hands against his cheek, wiping the blood from his cheek. He needs them. "There. There, it's fine. Take a deep breath. It'll help, I promise, okay?"

They listen, dragging a rough inhale into their lungs. It stings. Dizziness cascades through them.

Then fingers follow through his hair. "I got you. I need to hold you still, I'll be gentle."

More voices nearby, but Winter's behind them, voice in their ear, telling them it's okay. Part of them doesn't believe it--Winter is never totally truthful with those words--but all they know is pain, and the steady presence against their back. They choose to trust it.

Something moves. They flinch, a strained noise crawling up the back of their throat.

"It's okay, it's okay, it's okay," Winter whispers, frantic and tight, "Cor's helping, you just need to stay still, it's going to be fine--"

And it rips, and a scream tears out of their throat--

"Minnow!"

"On it."

Frey feels more than blood filling his eyes now, but the gloved thumbs wipe it away, holding tighter. "Minnow has us silenced, it's okay. You can scream. It's okay."

They cough, try to pull from the fire in their side. Helpless noises fall from their lips. Humiliating, part of them whispers, but Winter said it was okay--

"It's out, Minnow--"

"Yeah, move."

Ice hands touch their bare skin. They want to run, to hide, they can't move.

"Relax," a smooth, spiralling voice croons. "I'm getting the poison out. You need to breathe, follow your prince."

"In, Frey, follow me."

Shuddery breaths. They follow. A finger taps against their collarbone, keeping the rhythm. Out, and some of the fire leaves with it.

"Almost done."

"Cor, you got the--"

"Sutures, yes. Minnow, can you trance them?"

"They won't appreciate that."

"I don't care," Winter rasps, breath hot on their ear. "They don't deserve more pain. Please, Min, I can't hold them down like this."

"...okay."

The hands touch their cheek now, and they falter in their breathing as something swims in their vision. "M-Minnow," they manage.

"That's me, soldier," Minnow whispers softly. "You're going to focus on me for a little while, okay?"

"'Kay," they murmur.

Arms around their shoulders, hugging tight. Careful fingers against the wound in their side. And bracing, cold palms against their cheeks.

"Sleep," Minnow whispers.

And Frey trusts the touch enough to give in.

very vague prompt but my favorite trope is "character makes tea for other character" so could we see some of that? You mentioned Cor is good with "herbal remedies" so I can definitely picture him heating up some water and dropping in a handful of ginger and mint leaves for another team member's troubles. For the whump, I think some good old fashioned fatigue would be fitting (from the strain of a recent fight perhaps? or just a tough hike). The whumpee could be any of the other characters!! (but if I had to choose, I wouldn't say no to a suffering Winter. Bonus points if Frey is Hesitant to let Cor help but begrudgingly allows it because they know it won't be harmful and they want Winter to feel better. and maybe it helps them trust Cor a little when it works?)

I adore your ocs. Even if you don't answer this prompt any time soon I'm really looking forward to seeing them in action at all!!!

"Stop messing with it," Cor scolds softly.

His stern glare seems to work on the fidgeting Winter, who finally lets go of the edges of his bandages, looking at the sky in annoyance. "You're certain it's supposed to itch this much?"

If he weren't so worried, he would almost be amused. "Yes, highness," he says, instead of making fun of him like normal. "The poultice irritates the skin, to kill the remnants of the surface poison. It causes an itching and burning sensation. That means the herbs are doing their job."

Withering somewhat, Winter nods. His eyes wander back to the white cloth. "I'm sorry I was reckless, Cor. I didn't know it was..."

"None of us knew," Cor reassures.

He turns his attention back to the small fire. Across the way, the knight's eyes catch the light. Frey is watching him closely.

Cor ignores them. Instead, he focuses on the boiling water, where he adds his personal blend of tea into the pot. Nothing special, nothing healing. Just warm and spiced, to calm the spirit. "And what you did kept the rest of us alive. I can do the same for you."

"How did you figure it out?" Winter says quietly, shuffling forward to sit closer to the flames. He shivers slightly.

"My whole work is with poisons, highness." Cor stirs the mix slowly, lazy. The urgency is gone, now that he's siphoned the majority of the danger out of his colleague's wound. "If I didn't know, I'd be a poor herbalist."

"You saved my life."

"And you saved mine," he reminds. "Don't put me in debt to you so late now."

Winter flushes, and looks away. The firelight illuminates the underside of his jaw and neck. He looks young, so slumped into himself.

Cor strains the water into a small cup. He swirls it carefully, sniffs to make sure it's not too bitter, and turns, beckoning Winter's hands open. He gently presses the cup into Winter's grip. "Drink, highness. It'll warm you."

Frey's eyes, still open from across the fire, narrow. So protective.

Pouring another cup, Cor lifts it to his lips and blows, before swallowing a sip. He has no intention to harm the prince, but he has little qualm with proving it.

Still, the knight barely relaxes until Winter makes a noise of surprise. "It's sweet!"

"Shh," Cor murmurs.

"Minnow's on watch, we'll be fine," Winter says, taking another drink. He starts. "Hot..."

Cor can't help the smirk that crosses his face. Across the fire, Frey is hiding their own smile.

"You're something else, highness," Cor says.

Winter blinks. "...You say that like an insult."

"I'm observing."

"You are insulting me!"

"Shh," he urges again. "You're in no state to provoke the night. Minnow is on watch, but even she can't protect from all dangers by herself. So drink, then sleep. I'll tend the fire."

Admonished, but still delighted, Winter takes a sip of the tea, and watches the fire.

Cor watches him drink, taken by the redness dancing on his skin, the way his head droops the longer he fights sleep. A prince, but a bright one, undeserving of the cruelty he's suffered.

Through the flames, Frey watches Cor, a sliver of white opposite the darkness.

Hi could I see Winter as a caretaker? He strikes me as someone who would be pretty good at comforting others since you've said he wants to be helpful and acts as the heart of the group. It'd be especially interesting if the whumpee was Cor, someone he seems to romanticize. It's always fun when character a views character b as some kind of invincible force of nature only to have that idea shattered later on in the story when they see them weak and vulnerable...

I hope you don't mind me combining these two. It's been a while, but I hope you enjoy!

"Can you drink this?" Winter says, holding the cup to Cor's lips and hoping for the best.

His eyes linger on the liquid, glazed and barely able to focus before slipping down. He nods slightly. Another bead of sweat travels down the side of his cheek.

Winter braces the cup and lifts it from the bottom, slow and careful. Cor sips obediently, not even batting an eye at the taste.

"Thank you," Winter says, soft. "You can lay back now."

Cor leans, wobbly. Winter catches his elbow and guides him to the pillow, pulling the thin ratty blanket to his chin.

It's only been an hour since Frey and Minnow left to get money for another night at the inn, and hopefully for some sort of fever reducing potion, if there's an herbalist in the outskirts of town. They weren't supposed to be here at all.

But when Cor collapsed after they escaped yet another round of bounty hunters, the group really had no choice.

Cor makes a questioning noise in the back of his throat. Winter snaps his attention away from the small candelight on their bedside, and back to his charge.

"You're okay," Winter soothes. It's automatic now. Every time Cor surfaces enough from the flow of the fever, he starts to panic. Winter smoothes down the edges of the blanket. "We're at an inn. Frey and Minnow will be back soon."

A shaky hand reaches toward him, and Cor cups his cheek, running his thumb against the crease in his chin. "...Hurt?"

"No," Winter breathes. "Only you."

"Look... scared."

"I'm worried about you," he says, candid, reaching up to squeeze Cor's wrist. It's the most he's said in twenty four hours. "You're ill."

"I'll... recover," Cor murmurs. His face looks drawn and pale, but determined. Still weak, still dazed. "So... calm. D'n't worry."

Winter huffs a laugh, and leans over to brush a sweaty strand of hair from Cor's forehead. "Worry about you, not me."

"S okay," Cor insists, eyes fluttering.

"It is," Winter agrees, and taps his cheek gently. "Now sleep, please. I'll wake you when the others are back."

Cor hums, and drifts somewhere else.

Winter watches the candle. The window, looking for his companions. The floorboards. The light sneaking in from under the tiny room's door, where the tavern below surely remains quiet and ugly.

Anything but the fluttery breaths of his companion. Cor can try to hide it when he's conscious. But in sleep, his body betrays him.

Come back soon, Winter begs. I don't know if he'll make it another night.

Thoughts on magic illness? (Either a curse or overuse or magic and having side effects)

Yes yes yes!!! I love magic illness!!!

On the curse side of things, there's so much you can do with it. I love a good truth spell, or prevented-from-speaking. Like, a character knows they're cursed, but isn't allowed to talk about it (Sophie in Howl's Moving Castle).

Overuse of magic........ my beloved. I mention this in an earlier ask, but overheating or freezing because of components magic contributes to in body regulation is one of my favorite ideas. Characters use their magic because they have to, and the side effects are like an actual illness, as their body attempts to pull itself together and regulate again.....

Another idea I'd like to add is specifically magic pathogens. I'm no expert in disease pathology, but perhaps specific creatures that feed on magic directly, that could kill someone who relies on their magic to live (especially if the above is true, that magic is vital to a user's body regulation). Or an illness that transmits through certain kinds of spells, like healing? Ahh, there's so many ideas!!!

Not for the Whump game, I already sent in one of those, but I had a curiosity. I'm into medical whump, mainly cardiac, but regardless of the type.. When the one taking care of the whumpee knows JUST ENOUGH to be afraid to 'screw up' and simultaneously becomes so distraught that the whumpee has to become the caretaker FOR the caretaker? How do you feel about that scenario?

I love scared caretakers. Especially in caretaker-turned-whumpee situations, where the normal calm one is the one hurt, and the normal whumpee is attempting to help. I love it when the caretaker in the situation is terrified of making things worse.

There's so much to play with that dynamic. The injured one carefully walking them through each step, reassuring them if they're about to panic, encouraging deep breaths. Pained, through gritted teeth, but still so focused on keeping their friend calm.

And an inexperienced (or just enough experienced) caretaker, attempting something terrifying (removal of a dangerous impaled object, creation of a cure for a poison, sutures, you mentioned you enjoy cardiac whump, so perhaps a carotid sinus massage), because they know exactly how little they know.

Healing magic whump. My favourite angle is the idea of the Whumpee still participating in normal life, while Whumper poofs away all the damage they inflict in the morning. It becomes an endless cycle of pain, the Whumpee feeling helpless to tell anybody about what's happening because what proof is there? They have no bruises, no wounds, no fever.

I have one possible addition to this, and that is if the whump is due to "training". I love the idea of an academic setting using healing as a way to excuse violence in training sessions. "We're going to teach you whatever you want to know, so when it gets painful, you can't complain. We'll heal you afterwards." Whumpee who feels like they can't speak up about it, because after all, they wanted to learn....

Hello there! Any chance you have any thoughts on punishments that a living weapon whumpee could be given? For disobedience, hesitation in following orders? Or even perhaps punishment for a living weapon whumpee who escaped but recently got caught by their old handler? (Preferably something other than whipping?)

Oh, okay! Yeah!

I like to think of punishments in living weapon settings as "training". Like, something goes wrong, and the punishment occurs to prevent that thing from happening again. Like so:

Living weapon hesitates during a mission. The punishment is reflex training--the weapon is put into a trial with an action, like pushing a button, drawing a weapon, attacking, and upon a certain cue (like an order), they have to complete that action immediately. If they falter, or if their time is not quick enough, they're given a strong electric shock. Tighten the time allowance the further it goes, until the smallest of orders has the weapon jumping into action.

Living weapon rescues an innocent instead of removing them as a witness. In punishment, Weapon is required to torture and kill them.

Living weapon escaped and is recaptured by their old handler. The punishment for doing so is in place to prevent them from attempting an escape again, so they're put somewhere with several escape routes (all false) and repeatedly punished for any attempts, in increasingly painful ways. Handler can say "Take your cuffs off", and if they do so, they will be shocked/hit/burned/bled. Associate escape with recapture and agony until they can't bear the thought of leaving.

Pain works as punishment (burning, whipping, shocking, drowning, bleeding, drugging), but if the goal is to prevent behavior, you've got negative as an option, too. Remove all meal times. Remove all stimulus (sensory deprivation). Remove something they would normally find comforting (handcuffs, a collar, routine).

Hi! Let me tell you a funny story:

So I was gonna make a whumpy story. It was all going very well, I made the mc, I made the setting, I loved it, great! ...Too great. Because as soon as I wanted to start the whump I just couldn't bring myself to do it. This setting was just too nice, and peaceful and the mc such a nice person I just couldn't let anything happen to them! It's like if Tolkien wrote Lotr but he didn't want the characters to leave the Shire so the whole trilogy was just the hobbits having a good time sitting at home! Do I just start writing fluff for them now?!

You invented true peace and this is hilarious to me. If you do want suggestions, might I kindly suggest whumperless? May I suggest a healthy little sickfic, fever, perhaps an allergic reaction? Someone in town comes in asking for help, and your character does their best to help, but in doing so gets injured? Might I suggest.... slice of life whump?

(I say, like Grima Wormtongue on the king's shoulder. Whump them...... whump them milord.......)
