My character AppleHeart

I thought I could show how she looked from when I started drawing her back in 2023, and how she ended up being my first pixel art character!

I was sketching in my "usual style" - but something about this random character seemed fun and intriguing to me - so I kept on drawing her for fun.

I drew her playing a sort of lute that had an apple shape, and something about all the apples made me include maggots in my drawings of her.

AppleHeart is a traveling bard who plays for maggots and worms, but she takes on paid performances as well - in taverns and inns as she makes her way through a sort of medieval landscape...

(Initially AppleHeart had a halo, but I am skipping that, because of simplicity when animating her... for now!)

Something about this character made me want to draw her as pixel art - and a few environment items to go with her.

I put everything together in Tiled, and it was so enjoyable that I just kept on building her world - drawing more and more items and environment pieces for it.

I made my first 8 way walk animation, and now I am just exploring this world and hoping to make a super tiny playable game/story/something out of this! For myself, for fun.

I will use this place to post updates about this ..project :)
