I just found this blog and am very interested in it, thought it seems to have been on hiatus for some time. I was wondering if you will ever start this up again

I do apologize--it was meant to be a short hiatus but it seems to have dragged on. I do want to start it up again eventually, but right now I can’t tell you when that might be. 

For the meanwhile (and this goes for everyone interested), please feel free to do any of the previous prompts at your own leisure--I’ll continue updating the page/tags with any new responses, in the hopes that even through its prompt hiatus, this project may still be of some use.

A Reflection

Before I get into the reflection for the Applied Luciferianism Project, I’d first like to apologize for my absence. Life has been really grabbing me by the horns lately with work, figuring out financial situations, working on various personal projects and whatnot, so i haven’t had much access aside from mobile.

Now, going back to the actual topic of this post, I felt that the prompts were a wonderful idea. While I don’t feel that they developed my faith – significantly– I do feel that it further solidified it. I feel that while it’s all well and good to have such things laid out in your head, it really seems to add a bit of heft when you can sit down, sort out your thoughts as best you can, and see a physical copy of them. I also enjoyed trying to challenge myself, as a theistic Luciferian, to answer them without adding the theistic part as much as possible to my responses; However, I would have very much liked to see not only more Luciferians in general participate, but also those who would include various other Lightbearers to their answers. If this project continues– and I most certainly hope that it does– seeing a wider variety of replies to the prompts and more discussion amongst each other would be wonderful.

Perhaps another prompt that may be done could simply be to talk about an instance–or several–that happened from the start of the prompt that the writer felt fit within their practice/embodies Luciferianism, etc. Something that makes one stop and think “this is why I’m here. This is a part of/ what this is all about for me.” It could be pretty much anything, since I’m sure people would interpret it differently, but I mean more along the lines of showing someone a ‘light’, helping another or oneself, overcoming a difficult obstacle or working towards overcoming one, etc.

Applied Luciferianism Project: Reflection on First Round

Reflection on First Round

1. Do you feel that the prompt submissions (either your own or others’) have helped you develop your person or faith in any way? Why or why not?

I think sitting down and working out my own responses to these prompts has been beneficial in terms of figuring out what I even want / expect out of this path with Lucifer. Submissions from others were interesting to read and see how we differentiate connotations in our individual practices, but I can’t really say they led to development on my path.

2. For those followers who didn’t submit responses to entries but wanted to, is there any way we can change the project to accommodate? Perhaps extend the submission deadlines from two weeks to three or four?

While I am aware that I did submit for this round, this category of ‘wanted to but didn’t submit’ is often where I fall once the semester starts. And as of 8.24, it has started. Having two weeks to submit pieces worked in the summer when I had more than enough time to devote to these prompts, but I personally don’t see that time frame working for me while managing my classes, shop hours, and production assignments. I would probably have an easier time with four week / monthly prompts, but that doesn’t mean others would.

3. Do you feel prompts were sufficiently engaging for your particular branch of Luciferianism (theistic, atheistic, ceremonial, etc.)? Why or why not?

Well, I think the prompts were sufficient enough to respond to in regards to my path with Lucifer. This may help in explaining.

4. If we were to continue this project for another cycle of five prompts, are there any values/ideals you would like to see added to the current list?

I know I eventually want to talk about it in relation to my path, but I’m not sure others would want to talk about it since it’s not necessarily a value / ideal. The manifestation of Light-Bringer as a creator and how the fine arts (and other creative endeavors) can play into a practice.

It’s obvious from some tags and content on my blog that music is a thing, but I’ve also wanted to get around to touching on an area that I haven’t heard others talk about - Lighting. Literally, lighting design and being a theatrical electrician in relation to Lucifer.

5. Is there anything you would change about this project?

Nah, not really.

6. Any other thoughts, questions, or concerns?

I don’t think so, at least not right now.

I think, while not necessarily ‘ideal-based’, discussions regarding real-world applications/professions that relate to Lucifer-archetypes and the distinctive titles therein would be an interesting field to pursue. ALP - Compassion

Considering my username, I am all about that compassion.  To a Buddhist, has always been synonymous with compassion to me.  It’s about showing concern for others, acceptance, and even forgiveness. As I mentioned in ALP - Resistance, I want to develop bodhicitta (the mind that strives toward awakening and compassion for the benefit of all sentient beings).

It is not always easy to show compassion towards myself and equally hard, possibly more so while I am doing customer service.  If you look up compassion you will find words quickly associated with it, “charity, altruism, good will, kindness, forgiveness, mercy, tolerance, sympathy, courtesy, respect, empathy, grace, concern.”  All of that makes up compassion, a simply word, but it has such depth to it.  The standard definition is of course, “a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.”

Compassion towards self, is hard, because I am very hard on myself.  I am hard on myself for being particularly angry when I deal with customers (to the point I have been getting rather sarcastic and sassy).  I am hard on myself when I don’t have enough willpower to resist that piece of chocolate because my positive attitude has failed me.  My compassion towards myself comes in the acceptance of my failings, but also understanding.  Mostly with the acceptance, I have found this certain zen center in myself.  I am at peace with myself.  I know I still have to work hard to change myself, but it is okay.  It’s also important for me to recognize when I do have to step back and recharge and that it is not being selfish to take care of myself.  This body is here to serve me anyways, that’s why I feed, clean, and exercise my body.

Compassion towards others have always been generally the easiest for me to deal with (except lately in customer service).  I am super tolerant of others, even if to me they are crazy government conspiracy theorists, or they are super pushy about their religion (though I try to back out of that).  I generally help others with good will without ever expecting to be paid back, or a favor returned.  I show a lot of respect to others and rarely say bad words about other people.  I always listen with concern, even if what they are talking about is the least of my worries.

Still, I have my failings.  I do get angry when I consider someone ‘inferior’ and ‘annoying’ in customer service at the coffee shop. I get angry towards others out of anger and fear.  I get upset because that person is not meeting my needs and wants.  Those people are my greatest teachers in patience, kindness, and tolerance.

Lucifer is an angel of Pride, but Lucifer is also more than that.  Lucifer is a god-realm being who has learned to suffer.  We who think of ourselves as superior to others, must remember, that we too are a Star, that we too have fall to far, that we to have eaten the Fruit.  For all of our mistakes, we capable of being incredible, amazing people.  Lucifer was accordingly, a very smart and powerful angel.  Zir could have tempted Eve out of hatred, or jealousy, and yet in mythos, we owe Ze a great deal for opening our eyes. Prometheus was incredibly intelligent, always having forethought and even compassion for those who were of an inferior type to him.

In the end, I think compassion is important because we are all suffering in life.  We have happiness and great sadness, each having lessons to teach us all.  Without suffering, we would not understand what we do now.  Without having eaten the Fruit and opened our eyes, we could not appreciate each other like we do, not show the concern, the sympathy, the altruism that is part of humanity’s nature.  We must learn to be soft in this hard world.

ALP - Resistance

Even though this will be late, I’ve decided to write the Rebel/Resistance alp prompt.  I’ve put way to many hours into work the past couple of weeks.

When I think of Luciferianism, I instantly think of resistance and rebellion, maybe because in someways people hear Lucifer and think Satan, Ha-Satan, the Adversary of God.  I always thought of the book of Job too.  But I don’t think of trashy ‘rebel against the system.’

But let me start with resistance versus rebellion.  They seem entirely synonymous with each other. I always love throwing in the dictionary when it comes to words, but generally rebellion is an opposition against some authority figure, or some such to over throw them. Resistance is pure opposition, but of a different format.  When I think of rebellion, I think of violence (besides the defiance of authority).  When I think of resistance, I think of protests, of understanding, and awareness.  Both can be groups of people.  I think of decolonization.  I think of resistance groups who defend the environment.  Though I think in the end it’s petty to differentiate between the two similar words.  When children are ‘rebellious’ rebellion is used as a dirty word. Still is associate ‘overthrow’ with rebellion and resistance against invaders, or something new, or even something old.

The Rebel Angel mythos doesn’t really suit my style.  To me, resistance and rebellion has a purpose of creating better change.  The American Revolution and the French Revolution both brought about change.  In today’s world social justice issues, like Black Lives Matter, Feminism, Cultural Appropriation, and so many other issues that matter in today’s world.

I do not go about, resisting every day in the social justice sense.  I cannot attend protests every day.  Still, I do my best to learn about issues and to let others speak up, but also to speak out when necessary.  I cannot always argue back, but the more I learn, the better I get.  The more educated I get, the easier it is for my voice not to falter.

The one thing I must remember is to not be prideful like Lucifer (Iblis) or to be like Zeus. In Lucifer (or even Iblis), the issue becomes pride (wanting the thrown, calling men inferior and refusing to bow, etc).  In Prometheus, Zeus says, “Not one spark will I share with them!  For if men had fire they might become strong and wise like us, and after a while they would drive us out of our kingdom.  Besides, fire is a dangerous tool and they are too poor and ignorant to be trusted with it.  It is better that we on Mount Olympus rule the world without threat so all can be happy.”

This is where Buddhism heavily influences my view.  Not only do I believe in non-violence (except where one must protect one self), but also that pride has no place.  Due to my wish to generate bodhicitta, places a different view on subjects.  Bodhicitta is the mind that strives toward awakening and compassion for the benefit of all sentient beings.  My life is in service to others and everyone is my teacher, from the lowliest of the low, to the highest of high, from Buddha, to animals, to my parents, to the angriest customer, to the person who wishes to harm me.

So I think of resistance, in the nonviolent format, as of being in service into humanity.  I can only change myself, I can change no one else.  My life can be a message as I tough other people’s lives.  It has nothing to do with pride and everything to do with compassion.

Applied Luciferianism Project Prompt #5: Compassion

Some questions to consider may include: What forms does this value take within your own practice? Does it shift according to whether your practice is focused on the self or includes others? Do you think there may be a double-standard in place, where certain compassion is afforded to others but denied to the self during spiritual ‘work’ ? What is your interpretation of this value within Luciferian mythos?

I’ve been staring at this prompt on and off since it was posted, unable to pinpoint why it seemed so hard to write about. May be I’m conflating something else with compassion? According to this compassion is “a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering” (see also: mercy, tenderness, sympathy, clemency).

It somehow sounds personal, and I’ve wondered if that may be why there’s some difficulty in writing about compassion. You can bear light and try to unfuck society, and you can shoot for society level improvement, but you don’t have to make it personal. If something shitty happens to someone, I know that I can’t alleviate their specific suffering, but it may be possible to work on making sure no one else has to deal with that shit, y’know?

And yet, on a less dictionary level of meaning, compassion (when I’ve run into it) has been compared to, related to, or used to mean kindness. Deities, Powers, Spirits, etc. can seem compassionate and/or kind, though I can’t claim to know what They feel. There’s something about kindness from Someone that can seem unkind at times, though. Knowing that something we don’t know is likely to happen and/or knowing that doing X to help us improve even if X is painful, scary, or looks a whole lot like suffering doesn’t look like kindness from our pov.

There’s no saying that compassion (and/or kindness) can’t be relevant to your practice. Helping others when you don’t necessarily want to can be way to not reserve compassion and be less judgmental. Acknowledging that you can’t be perfect 110% of the time and forgiving yourself for that can be a way to be compassionate towards yourself. May be Lucifer felt moved to not let us suffer in ignorance and barely scrape away at our potential, and He pointed to the apple out of compassion for us. (I don’t know.)

Charities in Satanism

So often we see people ask what would be a good offering to Lilith or Lucifer or Satan, but I seldom see too many suggestions regarding the active part of that.

It’s something that I’m hoping to change. I’d love the Theistic Satanism community to start getting just as active as the Atheistic Community is in social changes!

And so, with the help of the lovely members of satanicbiblestudy, we’ve compiled this list. (If you have more entities/charities you’d suggest for this list, let me know so I can add them!)

Satan:

Books Through Bars - An organization that raises money to send books to prisoners, in order to help them finish their GED, learn a new vocation, or even study enough law to possibly appeal their own case. Higher education helps offer them a better chance at succeeding once they’ve been released and lowers the chance of recidivism.

Goat Sanctuary - Goats are Satan’s animal and we all love them so why not sponsor one? There are several rescue organizations meant to take in animals that were bound to be euthanised otherwise. One of my favorites is New Moon Farm.

Write a Prisoner - Similarly, making a friendship with a prisoner can help them feel that they have value outside of the prison system and can encourage them. It’s also a great chance to make friends with someone who you may have never considered.

The Irish Traveler Movement and Pavee Point. Irish Travelers are often treated as subhuman, denied rights and government assistance. Both these organisations work to protect traveler rights, heritage, safety, and education.

Ana Liffey Drug Project. A group that provides free counselling, needle exchanges, prison inreach, and community education about drugs and addiction. (Ireland)

The Irish Refugee Council. The asylum system in Ireland is often lacking, and this charity provides free legal aid and assistance to refugees trapped in the asylum backlog. (Ireland)

Lucifer:

Room to Read - A charity that helps fund training for teachers, building of larger classrooms and provides reading materials to low income countries. If one believes that Lucifer fell to enlighten mankind, a good way to give something to Him might be to spread that enlightenment.

FreeRice.com - Answer trivia questions regarding English vocabulary and earn rice for people in need. This is a charity that you can give to daily for a few minutes a day. It helps keep your mind active and feeds the hungry. A win-win scenario.

The National Adult Literacy Agency. - Offer your time to tutor adult learners and help improve literacy. Any charity that works to improve adult literacy is a wonderful program to work with for Lucifer! (Ireland)

LibriVox - This organization allows anyone to donate their time and their voice to this free audiobook collection. Volunteers can also record in languages other than English.

NNIRR and ORAM - These groups are both immigrant/refugee/asylum organizations that aid and protect the rights of those who have fled their homes or have been displaced due to war, persecution, etc. 

Little Free Library - A foundation that helps people to set up small, gym-locker sized libraries across the nation which allows people to either take or leave a book for free.  The site provides instructions to make your own library or the ability to make a donation instead.

Tutoring - You might not have any money to donate to an organization, but you could have time to take on someone who needs tutoring for free. That could be a great help for someone struggling with anything from Mathematics to English (or Spanish or Italian, etc) as a second language. Don’t underestimate how your own talents could help!

Lilith:

Planned Parenthood - Help provide women’s health needs for low income women! You can help ensure that birth control or safe abortions are provided for those who need them, as well as ensure that exams are given to people who might not have the insurance coverage.

Days for Girls International - An organization that helps provide reusable women’s hygiene products to girls in need. Girls without sanitary products miss days of school which robs them of an education, and often robs them of the ability to work later in life. Multiple ways to give varying from sewing pads to donating to raising awareness.

The Rape Crisis Network Ireland. - Offers free counselling and court/police accompaniment if required, among many other services. The RCNI have been, and remain, a lead agent in creating transformation in Ireland towards addressing sexual violence. (Ireland)

Donate Sanitary Products - A lot of food banks don’t have a large supply of women’s hygiene products but are in desperate need of them. The same often applies to Women’s Shelters. It’s not a costly donation but it will have a big impact on women’s lives.

Judas:

To Write Love on Her Arms - A nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. (Common rumors regarding this charity discussed here.)

Crisis Text Line -  A nationwide, free, 24/7 textline for people in crisis. Volunteers use the web-based platform to provide emotional support to texters who are dealing with a wide range of issues–  bullying, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and more. Anyone is able to apply to help through texts and training is provided!

On Compassion

Compassion seems to be one of those things that isn’t thought of a whole lot within Luciferianism, or at least isn’t seen very often. Compassion for the self can be a difficult thing to achieve, especially when it comes to allowing ourselves to make mistakes. I know I’ve said it before, but mistakes are an important part of learning and growth. Yet, despite this, people still shame themselves for them or keep themselves far away from attempting anything that may end up in one. While improvement, knowledge, and truth can be painful and cruel, denying oneself the opportunity to reach their full potential only to stay in darkness and stagnation is crueler still. While many of us are solitary practitioners, let us not forget the compassion we may also show to others so that they may have their own light. It certainly isn’t a requirement to do so, but to show others compassion and assist them as you can may help promote apotheosis of humans as a species. This does not mean you should go about doing things for others in their stead and whatnot, but rather to help them that they may be able to attain their own light to follow– think along the lines of “if you give a man a fish he’ll eat for a day, but if you teach a man to fish he will eat for a lifetime” When I was newer to the community I saw many people suggest acts of compassion be used as offerings– particularly those that involved giving to charities, and I still stand by those being wonderful ideas, even if they are smaller, more local charities. For example, there is a food pantry nearby that sends children home with backpacks full of food each weekend because their families cannot afford the food themselves. Hunger is a huge distraction and can be detrimental to learning in schools, so donating money as able allows them to be more likely to focus and further their education as they can. There are many wonderful charities out there that fit in with the Luciferian ideals, and as I recall, @whoreofabaddon has worked on a list that may be used not only for Lucifer, but for Satan and Lilith as well ( which, unfortunately, I cannot link to on mobile).

On Compassion

Compassion as part of our practice can be thought of in two forms - compassion towards the self and compassion towards others.

After a fair bit of thought, I have come to the conclusion that compassion towards others is not a requirement for being a decent Luciferian.

It’s a requirement for being a decent human being.

And since we’re aiming a little higher than ‘bare minimum’, I feel like we should be encorporating this value into our practice, no? Being a lightbearer naturally involves helping others and not simply assuming the ridiculously arrogant viewpoint of 'other people are lesser than me’ or 'I don’t HAVE to care about others’ and especially not refusing to accept there are consequences for the way we treat others. We do not live on this planet alone and therefore we cannot act like we live alone.

As for compassion towards the self, this has been something I personally have been struggling with recently. Ultimately we need to be harsh on ourselves, but not so harsh we become self-hating. It’s easy to become so focused on apotheisis and becoming the best version of ourself, we can forget that the point was never to suddenly become perfect and make no mistakes at all, but instead learn from the mistakes we do make.

Rebellion and Resistance

For me at least, these two are some of the most important values I’ve learnt.

As Luciferians, these are values that are essential to our practice, as they are values essential to our deity. We need to rebel against society, against unjust authorities, but perhaps most importantly against ourselves. We need to question every value we hold, even if it seems obvious why we hold them and especially if it makes us uncomfortable to do so.

- Mindlessly accepting values that oppose the majority is not questioning them.

- If it is easy or comfortable to question yourself, YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG.

- You shouldn’t be looking for information to support your viewpoint, you should be looking for all evidence against it.

- If your response to having your viewpoint values questioned is to freak out, you have a LOT of work to do.

- You are objectively wrong on a whole lotta things. Do you really think that you are the only person alive with a perfect moral code? Other people can justify things to themselves just as easily as you can. Homophobes, neo-nazis, sexists etc. don’t just sit around being assholes cause they feel like it.

That’s about it, I think.

Applied Luciferianism Project Prompt #4: Resistance / Rebellion

Resistance -

1) the act or power of resisting, opposing, or withstanding.

2) the opposition offered by one thing, force, etc., to another.

Connotations can be hard to pinpoint, and this is one of those cases. I don’t know why resistance feels stagnant, but it does. It feels like what you’re going up against, resisting change, and clinging to the established ‘normal’. Perhaps it’s because I’m used to approaching this in terms of shadow work and what I’m holding onto that needs to be let go, but I can’t see myself wanting this to be a value I look to on any of my paths.

Rebellion -

1) open, organized, and armed resistance to one’s government or ruler.

2) resistance to or defiance of any authority, control, or tradition.

While resistance seems to be the detrimental one where you have trouble changing for the better, rebellion can sometimes be the only way to bring about change that will be noticed and last. Rebellion is the power that the people hold (ideally). These doesn’t mean that everyone can walk away from their jobs, school, and means of supporting themselves to attend a protest, rally, march, etc.

Needing income, relying on education to increase job opportunities, not being able to get transport and/or accommodations to events, and the like. Depending on the nature of the protest, some people may not be able to afford being arrested or fear for their life. Supporting these efforts in non-attendance ways isn’t inherently less than turning out in the flesh.

It can also depend on what exactly is being rebelled against because the mere existence and living of your life could count as rebellion sometimes. There are means of rebelling that aren’t so big picture focused, but some of this is from thinking ahead to other means of inspiration. Is it because it’s been appearing on my dash, or that I have a tag queued up based around it (Mockingjay Rebellion)?

I don’t know the exact answer. There’s something about The Hunger Games that clicks. The imbalance of food accessibility, a fair amount of Districts being kept in poverty, the media twisting, the orchestration of death for sport, the control of the Capitol, and the seeds of unrest that are just waiting for a catalyst (Rue’s death). I’m not saying Katniss is a 100% match, but there’s enough of a fit for now.

Rebellion is the means for the people to keep their government in check. The government seeks to keep up the appearance that there’s nothing to rebel about. You’re in the Garden of Eden; so what if you can only know what I want you to know? As long as you do what I say, everything will be fine. And from Eve’s apple, we seek to strip away the censorship that seeks to keep us in our place.

Applied Luciferianism Project Prompt #3: Empowerment through Equality

Some questions to consider may include:  What comes to mind when you hear “empowerment through equality”? Do you treat them as separate values (empowerment and equality), and if so, how do you go about incorporating them into your practice if at all? Do you regard these as values geared more toward enhancing your practice as an individual, or communities as a whole? Does ‘empowerment through equality’ seem counter to apotheosis or vital to it for you?
